Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken Süd

3.5 out of 5.0

I stayed in Mercure Saarbruecken Sud hotel for one night. Very friendly staff, close to the highway (but in quiet location) and big and safe parking place for free. Excellent breakfast. Room big enough and clean.

Staff is friendly and constant. You know them because I often come, and you feel as at Home. Hotel is clean. Located quietly but far from City. Bar and Food are ok, but average, Mostly due to value for price. Staff is professional, so it does not take too much time to check in and out. I recommend it. Water bottel in Room should be free of charge

I stayed at Mercure for the second time in 2 years and it was again very nice. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was good. The location is not optimal (far from city centre, a car is needed) and the checkout time is not flexible

Nice ex-Novotel with pool, location perfect when you come by car (Paris-Frankfurt), climatization cannot get switched-off, A-Club Members are well treated, food and breakfast service to be improved. Overall nice hotel with some defects!

After a terrible night in Bremen we stayed in Saran, France, just north of Orleans. Reception was cordial and welcoming, the bar was nice and the breakfast excellent. The shower is in the bathtub, which I find less practical and the hotel in need för a renewal which we heard will be coming soon. Let us hope the floor will be hard in rooms.

Stayed twice for one night en route from UK to Bled, Slovenia. Hotel is reall well situated, just off the motorway and has a massive car park (needed when towing a large trailer). Rooms are good sized, reasonably furnished and with a good bathroom. Breakfast was included - this was a reasonable selection of both cooked and cold. Only down side was the staff at breakfast were very cold, to the point of rudeness. On the flip side, the reception staff were great Didn't eat in the restauarant - found an excellent gasthaus just up the road, Die Mohr'sche Anlage

One night stop over on the way back to Calais, easy route via toll road Evening meal was exelant, with plenty of choices. Comfortable beds, however the shower was over the bath, which was high/deep and narrow to stand on

I actually booked the wrong hotel - there are two Mercure hotels in Saarbrucken; one right smack in the middle of the city centre, minutes away from the Hauptbahnof, another roughly 15 minutes away with a cab. I was aiming for the former, but accidentally booked the latter. So first timers, just double check your reservations if you don't want to end up like me. That aside, Mercure Sud was alright. The staff was warm and very, very helpful. The room and bathroom were clean. The hotel's surrounding was pretty serene, which I usually like, if not for the fact that I didn't have transport to the city centre.

The room was quite acceptable except for the pillow which was very bulky. One of the bedside lights was not working (this should be checked daily by the staff). There were no freebies i.e. shower cap, shampoo etc. which having stayed in many Mercure hotels was surprising. The restaurant was a total disaster. Waited fifteen minutes to get the menu and a further 15-20 minutes to be served. Gulash soup was quite tasty. However the main course Lyonnerpfanne was unacceptable. Comprised of sausages, potatoes, onion and eggs. All this had been put into the oven and apparently forgotten. It emerged as a congealed mass. Two requests for a second beer were totally ignored as was my request for a knife. Arriving for breakfast next morning we had difficulty in finding a table as these hadn't been cleared. Food was the standard buffet, nothing exceptional. Having stayed many times over the years in Mercure hotels, I would have expected something better.

Rafael made our first night in Germany an absolute pleasure. He was extremely attentive bringing us any food or drinks that we asked for and gave us his insider tips for a great stay in Saarbrucken. Thank you.
