Briar Barn Inn

I stayed at the Briar Barn Inn with 3 friends in two rooms. The Inn itself is nicely designed with a friendly staff though the spa isn't yet open and there is a construction area still being worked. The restaurant food was good but it was only open 1 of the 3 nights we stayed there. They have major design flaws for the room with cold air blowing directly on the beds and heavy coverlets that make guests choose between being too hot or too cold. There is inadequate air flow so if you throw anything in the trash be prepared to smell it for as long as its there. Their smoking policy is reasonable except they provide no designated area and no outside trash bin to throw away used butts. If you throw the butts into the room trash bin you will get charged $400 for "smoking" in the room due to their bad air system. Repeated attempts to contact management about this charge were met with complete silence. I will never stay there again and I'd advise others not to as well.

We stayed here for 2 nights. We were looking forward to this visit and to staying here. We had a large king. This room was a very nice size. The fireplace works on a timer. There are two comfy chairs by the fireplace but no reading lamps which is a shame because we could not relax and read- the overhead light did not provide enough light. There should also be a light by the desk. There is a minibar area but what is desperately missing is a hot water electric pot with a tea assortment and an Nespresso maker. This seems essential- the reason I say this is because the Grove restaurant has erratic hours and the coffee in the lobby is pretty minimal. The bed was very comfortable and although Frette sheets are used per the advertising - they were wrinkled. It was hard to co troll the temperature in the room; since it is summer you can only have A/C so if it is chilly which it was in the evening - you are stuck. In other words, the individual thermostats can not be adjusted. There are shutters for the window treatments which let some light through- this did not bother us but if you like a dark room- this will bother you. The bathroom is large and spacious and works well. There is a shower and a separate bathtub. It is a nice touch to include bath salts however, they did not replenish even though we asked. The bath products are very nice with a delicate unisex scent. There are bathrobes and slippers also. Here is the major problem: the restaurant! One expects to have breakfast in the Inn. But, it was closed because of an event! We had no notification and even if we did, this unacceptable. There should be an area allocated for hotel guests. This was frustrating. The receptionist was aghast and guided us to some fruit- a bowl of oranges!! In addition, the restaurant was closed in the evening as well. The funny thing is we were given a coupon to enjoy an appetizer in the restaurant but we could not use it! There was zero communication from the restaurant to the hotel reception. We were told breakfast started at 8 so we made plans accordingly only to find it closed. Either you are an events space or an Inn- no matter what, you should take care of your guests.

What a great place to relax and rejuvenate. Traditional New England charm on a beautiful property with all the modern amenities. Quiet and peaceful in every way. New construction that opened in January 2019. Their staff was very helpful and accommodating.

We stayed here one night on our way through town. The room was absolutely adorable. They beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was great! It had a large tub and a shower. Everything was spotless and we loved it! We would stay here again if we were in the area for sure.

The Briar Barn Inn is beautiful and charming - we loved our stay! Our room was clean and cozy with a soaking tub and in-room fireplace. Quaint country setting - gorgeously designed and decorated. Can't wait to go back when the spa opens!

What a unique, vintage yet modern Inn! From the beautiful fireplaces to the antique artwork and extremely pleasant staff, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. The hard work that went into this welcoming and beautifully decorated establishment does not go unnoticed. My husband truly enjoyed his birthday weekend. We will be back for another stay next month when the restaurant is open.

I stayed at the Brier Barn Inn for a girls weekend. The inn is beautiful and our room was lovely! Comfortable beds, nicely appointed bathroom w a great soaking tub and separate shower, and our own fireplace. Relaxing and comfortable stay. Great location too!

My wife and I enjoyed a nice weekend getaway at the Briar Inn. The staff was friendly and helpful and the inn itself was beautifully designed and also feels homey. We had a great time hanging out in our generously sized room, but location is also convenient to shops and restaurants in Newburyport and many good nature walks in Ipswich.

Found this hotel while looking for a place to stay for one night in the area. I could not believe how lucky I was. The attention to detail was amazing. From the fire place in the room to the decor to the bath salts, it was very beautiful and felt homey. It is very quiet and the staff remembered my name when they saw me. The only complaint I have is poor water pressure in the shower but otherwise perfect!

Nice place, but no water to be found and no coffee maker in the room or coffee in the lobby. We had to go to the market so as to avoid the overpriced mini bar items. Couldn't wait to check out. Would not recommend unless you are just looking for an overpriced place to sleep.
