We booked through Thomson online. It did not mention what the holiday would include but i always wanted to go. I went for my 30th with my partner and i though it was value for money minus all the nice additions/surprises we received Flight We boarded the plane and there was a Thomson rep who was dressed as an elf - we were sitting next to him. There was games for both kids and adults and made the flight go so fast didn't feel like a 3.5 hour flight. The pilot was so engaging, they dropped the plane slightly as though father Christmas and his reindeer landed on the plan. We arrived at the airport very clean and tidy. Only a small airport as soon as you go through the front door you hit the baggage area. The flight home was also the same as going out. Arial When we arrived at the airport we visited seen our Thomson rep and they don't give you a coach number but rather a coach name. Our was Sweet Cherry and this was our elf for the 4 day we where here for. She was amazing, everywhere we went on the coach she was there which was brilliant. Again we were playing games as we dropped other people off. But first of all we went to get suits. I wasn't sure if it was in the package (we got our own prior 2nd hand that we will sell on). Other guests got an all in one suit, boots, gloves, hat and scarf. We also had Icicle Ian from Thomson who also accompanied us throughout the 4 days. We stayed in snowy cottages and out talk was in the sky ounasvaaran and we had out meeting tour which is work going to. Icicle Ian gave us a breakdown of what our 4 day stay was going to cover. Cottage The cottage was amazing. You can get a plastic sleigh from the hotel to put your luggage on and take it down/up the hill. We were in I18 on the corner near the coach pick up point. There was plenty of room, a brilliant sauna, kitchen equipped, fire, TV on finish TV, WiFi, play-station, heating was on when we got in too :) We stayed B+B the fridge was already full of food, cheese, ham, milk, orange, egg, bread, team, coffee, sugar, croissant, jam - no margarine so might be work bringing some. Day 1 - arrival and free time. We bought a bum board from the sky ounasvaaran which was really cheap and we went on the nearby ski slopes with it. Day 2 Taster session - we had a lovely trip to a nearby park only for Thomson customers only. we had a go of the reindeer's, snowmobiles and a husky ride. The queue go down really fast. We had a meal included on this trip also a buffet all you can eat. Before lunch we had berry juice and gingerbread by a roaring campfire. In the evening we done the elf adventure. I thought for 2 adults it would be childish but it was far from it. We had a go of the doughnuts, jeep buggies, finding snowman, made snow angels, met Mrs clause and made key chains. An amazing evening. Day 3 We visited Santa park and Santa village. We done Santa village first and we where there approx 2 hours. not really enough time. You can send a letter to Santa and get gifts/souvenirs, You also get the change to cross the arctic circle. Other reviews said they stayed here and got a taxi to Santa village later. We wanted to stay with the crowd. Then we got the coach to Santa park - WOW this was amazing but again not enough time. The entrance fee was included in the package and we got fast tracked in. There is a place to leave your jacket i would do this as it get really hot in there. Santa park is like an underground world, you can go to elf school, train ride, make cookies (kids get a gingerbread free we had to pay as we were adults), mini show, Ice bar, made a tree decoration, Santa post office but not the main one as this is in Santa village and calligraphy lessons. There is a restaurant and souvenir shops too. Evening was the GALA dinner many people were in their now boots and snow pants with just a t shirt as if you got your snow gear from Thomson you need to hand it back that night. The food was amazing (you can get an alcoholic drink but you need to pay for this, berry juice is free. There was games all evening and you got a chance to meet Santa. Really well organised, each table went a time, all children get a gift, i went to see Santa even though i was a 30 year old woman i wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity. We got a photo with Santa and he still asked if we were good girls lol. At the end of the night there was fireworks and Santa came outside with is sleigh and the reindeer. Day 4 - home time (crying don't want to leave) We were so sad to be going home, everyone stayed in character and it made you want to believe again :) You do need to get involved if you have not children as you only get out of it what you put in to it. Would highly recommend this trip to adults it will be an unbelievable experience. You may even get to see the northern lights whilst you are there. we missed it as i went to bed early :(
These chalets are lovely, warm and just what you would expect in a snowy place like Lapland. Firstly they are just a 10minute drive from the airport we got a transfer outside the airport that was €7 each we didn't pre book we just happened to stumble across it when we landed. Their is a reception for the chalets which is open 7am - 11pm and staff are friendly and happy to help this also has a bar, restaurant and little bits of food you can buy like crisps and chocolate. If you book any trips to go on whilst your in Lapland like we did the company you book with can pick you up from the reception. We stayed for 3 nights the chalets have sledges that you can use free of charge which is a lot was fun. The chalets are situated on 2 sites both are just across the road from each other and on one of them is a big river which is a popular place for viewing then northern lights. The nearest super market is a 20 minute walk away which has a cash machine and a kebab shop and fast food place next to it. The chalets have microwaves kettles and hobs (no ovens) ours had a sauna which was lovely to use after being out in the cold. The beds are really comfortable and there is a television with lots of Channels on and radiators which keep the place really warm. The chalets are right next to a ski resort which is perfect if you are going skiing. Places like Santa Claus village is a 15 minute drive away. Overall the chalets were great very spacious, warm and clean.
Everything about this place is good to write about ..from the location next to Skiing Resort to their Chalets which are aesthetically designed and include individual sauna in the cottage that has self cooking essentials included . So when reaching here stock then food you need to cook if you wish self cooking though they do have on site restaurant where you need to tell them in advance if you wish to dine in . They have excellent wifi and the breakfast has few good options . If back would certainly stay here .
With two couples we arrived on March 5, 2017, booked through a Dutch agency specialised in Lapland tours, and we were given cabin 42. After unpacking and settling in we got comfortable but we were under the impression that this cabin was originally a 2 or 3 person cabin, but was converted into a 6 person cabin. What we believed used to be the living room seemed to have been turned into a bedroom with two large beds with no room left in the livingroom. We were unable to have proper dinner due to lack of space. The next morning we asked at the reception about it and were immediately given cabin 11 and 12, under the same roof even without us even complaining. These two cabins had been converted into one cabin with significant amount of more space. We enjoyed our stay a lot. Breakfast was superb every day and the hospitality and service were great.
Stayed 4 nights in Chalet Hotel Rovaniemi. Reached the hotel via the Airport Taxi which cost 16 euros. Not too expensive. The surroundings is very peaceful, good to stay away from the fast paced urban lifestyle. My standard apartment (Chalet number 24) is well maintained. Room is clean and bed is comfortable. Heater is working well. I like the loft concept very much. There's also a mini-kitchen with fridge, kettle, cooker, microwave oven and a set of dishes. There is also a private sauna which is perfect for the cold weather. The room is very cosy with mood lighting, and is extremely suitable for a winter stay. The stunning frozen Kemijoki River is just within a 10 minute walk from my chalet. Along the way you'll pass by the other chalet apartments which are more remote. Buffet breakfast is delectable. The very cosy restaurant just makes me relax and enjoy the food, and not forgetting the lovely scenery outside the panoramic glass window. Pick a seat with the snowy views, you'll love it. Overall a pleasant stay in Chalet Hotel Rovaniemi. I'll probably choose to stay in another type of apartment for a different experience!
We have just returned from the snow , having spent a very pleasant half term with the little one. The chalets are a short taxi ride from the airport so transfers are easy. The chalets are clean , practical and the sauna option is fantastic . The photos are taken by an expert as in reality the living room is very , very cosy. Three adults and a little one is too many , so how they can sleep 6 is beyond me. The kitchenette is two hobs, fridge, kettle and sink. A toaster is sorely missed!. The clubhouse , again is very clean and comfortable , and the food served is pretty decent fayre. The breakfast is buffet , with hot and cold options, and will set you up for a busy day. The choice is not varied and if you arrive in the latter stages of breakfast , you get what is left . Refills , if any , are at a premium! The positioning of the chalets are prefect for the ski school , which has a little family section which is great value. We had a very pleasant time and the 4 days was probably the perfect length of time to stay
We, (4 of us) stayed in one of the chalets across the road from the hotel, a short walk in the crispy snowy frosty fabulously clean air of this majestic place, an absolute delight to wake up to each of the three days we stayed there. The chalet was a very welcome retreat after each of the two days out on tour, the stairs are quite steep and not for the faint hearted or sleepy walkers!! The sauna was great for a full "warmthrough" and easily accessible off the bathroom downstairs. The food in the hotel was plentiful although not as tasty as Irish.
Ounasvaara Chalets is just a few miles out of Rovaniemi, but is a very calm place to stay. The Chalets are cosy, not very big, but for 2 people they are perfect. the 2 extra beds upstairs are perfectly fine if you don't mind cramped headspace due to the slanted roof. The chalet was clean and snug. The bathroom is basic, with a small sauna, which was perfect. The shower didn't close fully, meaning you have to watch out not to get everything wet, but otherwise, a very pleasant place to stay! Reception is open until 23h, and opens at 7h. The restaurant is fine, breakfast is very good! They are very clear: breakfast until 10 means at 10:10, there's nothing left.
We went there by taxi, as is t'he only way to ho there and un the reception they were very nice! From the cottage you can ser the Sky slopes and it is amazing. Inside The cottage you have everything needed and The matresses are really confortable!!! The breackfast was also really good. The only thing you have to Take in consideration is that is a bit far and not really well comunicated with t'he city centre. Id you want to go skying and relax with your family or friend this is for sure the best place!!!
We had booked 5 nights over Christmas to take our 5 year old to see Santa. Unfortunately the bad weather prior to our visit meant the heating wasn't working in our cabin so they put us up at the Scandic Hotel: we were glad this was only for one night. Finally we arrived to our beautiful atmospheric cottage in the snow; just what we had hoped for. The staff were so helpful and Igor was very apologetic about the situation. We had a magical stay with fresh snow on Christmas Day for us to play in. The cabins are compact but my son loved the loft bedroom and I loved the sauna. The food was excellent for breakfast and dinner. We had our own car to get around but you could call a taxi if you needed. Bring some soups, coffee and snacks if you want something simple in your cabin. The cost was high due to the peak season but worth every cent compared to the rather bland package hotels in the city. A magical Christmas stay - we will be back !
