Villa Tuscolana Park Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

I’ve stayed for several days with my husband at Villa Tuscolana. We were overwhelmed by the view over Rome and the surroundings like Lake Albano and Castel Gandolfo. The Villa has a beautiful dining area outside, fine italien cuisine, a lovely garden and nice hotel rooms. The hotel staff was very kind and accomodating.
I stayed for 2 nights. The rooms are well equipped although a little old furnished. But this belongs to the Charme of this old Castle/Villa style. Do not expect modern equipment. The surrounding with a beautiful view is very nice. Food at the restaurant is at a very good level. Staff is friendly. Missing piece: a good bar, with maybe a TV screen for being together. TV reception was bad, but normally not essential in such a place.
Frascati is not an easy town in which to drive for the first time, and the Villa Tuscolana is far from the downtown area so you really need a car and GPS, - and then drive slowly! This hotel is in a marvellous location high above the town and with a magnificent view over Rome. The interior is impressive, staff were professional, restaurant good/very good. Wifi and breakfast could be improved but I would certainly recommend this hotel.
Location is 5***** but as usual will not be considered in my review... The hotel call itself Grand Hotel, and is classified as 4**** - unfortunately the best I could give is only a 3***. The room I stayed in was a tiny Single, where the bed took up basically the whole space, however mattress was good & firm; bathroom in need of an upgrade especially the shower cubicle, too small and with shower head broken and not fixed properly - when reported was repaired promptly, which is good. Breakfast not at Grand Hotel level, nothing is cooked and is a cold breakfast - needs lot of improvements. Staff fine and happy to serve, so no fault on this side; I have not tried the SpA. All in all as said, if you like Italian history and a great view this is good, but for anything else is nothing more than a 3***.
Pros: Beautiful view of Frascati Beautiful view or Rome Inside hallways, lobbies, bars are ornately decorated. Quiet and secluded. Attentive staff Coffee bar Bar bar Areas that can use improvement: 1) The wifi reception wasn't reliable in my room.I was disconnected every few seconds. I had to do most of my work in the lobby where there were no outlets to sustain the battery of my laptop. 2) The hotel is distanced from Frascati. Luckily there is a shortcut for getting to and from Frascati behind the Hotel. The back gate to this shortcut should be left open late nights for pedestrians walking back from Frascati. (It was locked one night while I was heading up) The taxi service in Frascati stops around 11:00pm. When the back gate is locked, the only option I have for getting back after 11 is walking up a very poorly lit road along the side of the mountain. It's a bit less safe, and a longer hike than the shortcut is. I would recommend keeping the tiny gate(for pedestrians) open so that they can safely walk back to the hotel if they're out and about the town late at night. Overall: Despite those two setbacks, I would still highly recommend staying here. The view is beautiful, and you're adequately distanced from a town that is relatively loud at night.
It was terrific ! The hostel and the common space are astonishing. The people at reception are slow and a little bit rude but the other staff are delicates and dedicates. Maybe the room are not top tier but you can expect that when you pay 48e by night. I don't know what people hopes sometime. At the end of the day you have what you pay for, and here you have waaaaaay more. I'm actually angry to read the unsatisfied people, because it's unfair, because they're rude, because they were expecting to be considered as Napoleon...for 48e/night. The food is delicious and cheap 25e/menu who varies every day. The wine is poor, take your own bottles. The view is wow.
This hotel is wonderful! You feel like you are back in renaissance time. The bathrooms are modern and rooms are full of comfort. I loved the pool that looks like roman baths. So cool! And of course, the view. It is breathtaking from every point of the hotel. I will definitely stay again in this hotel.
Classic room was absolutely fine with lovely high ceiling which helped to keep the room cool in very hot weather. Staff, especially Nicolo were attentive and very pleasant. The grounds and views were superb too. The families who were there seemed very content and relaxed. Breakfast was excellent too
We arrived quite late and were almost late for the dinner at the hotel when the most helpful receptionis Urania just took all our troubles away. That lady took care of all our luggage so we could rush to the restaurant and have a meal. The next day she continued helping us with various things we needed to arrange. Always was smiley and caring. That proactive and wonderful worker deserves a raise! :) Now about the hotel: it is very impressive! Beautiful, full of articles of history of the place, you will not be bored wandering around! It was clean and well kept. The grounds around are nice too. But! One major drawback is there is no airco in the room. The matress needs a change too, it's too old. A note to the management: the check out time could be between 11 and 12 instead of 10.30 (quite early for when you are on a holiday). The restaurant: the food was great!
Below average room they call classic meaning most basic. We had ants in the room. If management require more info on this please request and I can send on video. Staff on reception were poor in dealing with reservation error. They told us we were in the room we paid for - deluxe but it corresponded to basic room on their website. Rooms manager confirmed to us next day it was indeed a basic but this made no difference to reception and refused to acknowledge mistake. On the plus side the grounds and pool are nice and other staff very friendly aside from reception.
