My Mother and I recently visited Ripley for a family reunion. She had stayed here when the hotel was a Best Western several years ago. She had always had a pleasant experience there, and was looking forward to a comfortable stay. That was not the case this time. From the second we walked in to check in, it was obvious that something was wrong. It didn't look clean and smelled strangely. We had two upstairs rooms. Since there is no elevator, we had to climb the rusting out stairs to get to our rooms. Each room smelled of some sort of cheap air freshener, with the underlying scent of mothballs. You want to be knocked over by the smell of mothballs? Try the "vending room." In Mom's room, the recliner was broken and leaning against the wall to one side. Her bathtub smelled moldy, and did not hold water...if she had even wanted to bathe in it. In my room, besides the "smell," my bedspread had numerous small burn-type holes in it, and I did find blood on a pillow case and pillow. Every piece of furniture and the carpet was old and scuffed or torn, and the room just was not cleaned well at all. Ripley deserves so much better than this...so sad.
I had stayed here in the past when it was Comfort Inn and though not fancy it was clean. This hotel has deteriorated so bad since my last stay about 5 years ago. The carpet was torn and the room reeked of urine and moth balls. The air conditioner sounded like a jet plane taking off. My room was filthy. My aunt and cousin also had rooms there and had the same experience. The only difference was that my cousin found blood on his pillow. It's the only hotel in Ripley. The next time I have occasion to visit I will stay at nearby New Albany .
Came back to room second day and watched a snake slither under our dresser. The lady on duty was helpful and together we located the snake and I killed it. The door didn't fit properly and the snake went through the gap. She informed owner and we were told the door would be fixed. It never was. We were given a roll of packing tape and encouraged to try to cover the gap up. When I talked to either the owner or whoever was working the desk prior to our last night, I was told the only compensation they could offer was a $20 discount. We were also told that a much larger snake had been found in the vending area. They offer a meager breakfast but there is only seating for six people. Don't waste your time and money on this place. The only other place in town looks even worse. If you must visit Ripley, stay outside of town and drive in.
This hotel has completely gone down hill over the last few years . The rooms are dirty yet sprayed heavily with air freshener to cover up everything. The water taste like pure chlorine. And the prices keep going up.
Steps are deteriorating. Coffee was colored water. Manager wears tshirt and sweats. Manager charged all 5 days at checkin and had me sign receipt. Don't know what I was thinking, moving to HI Express tomorrow.
A great nights sleep after a long day at work. It is nice to not have to deal with people that are not use to dealing with service pets for once. That is way I stopped using Choice is they refused to educate staff on service dogs.
Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Toilet wouldn't flush, sink barely drained, old inefficient air conditioner, dirty coffee pot, dirty sink/counter, room smelled, noisy refrigerator, loose electrical outlets, couldn't plug in phone/tablet chargers. Hotel staff left shortly after we checked-in and didn't open up before we left at 6:30 am next morning No one around the facility to complain to.
Good place to stay and reasonably priced.. Clean, quiet with good breakfast. Looks like it has been recently remodeled and refurnished. Management very helpful . Would stay there again. Next door to Huddle House with a Mexican restaurant across highway.
The bed felt like it was a $100 dollar set! It was firm as heck! I will never stay in this hotel again! If you like a cheap firm mattress then it's your motel! It's very outdated too. That's all I have to say!
I really liked this hotel. It was quiet, clean, and the staff was very hospitable. They are a small little hotel, but I like the size. The rooms have nice furniture and are really clean. I slept very well and look forward to staying here again.
