Howard Johnson Hotel and Casino Rio Cuarto3.5 out of 5.0

The room is OK But the hotel management seems to think that we are still living in the 1990s. The hotel has an internet connection at 1.5Mbit shared with all 40 rooms!!! How they can believe that speed would be OK 2017 I can't understand. The hotel also censors the Internet. So if you are lucky and can access the internet then you still can not read the news from your home or from other countries in the world because they are blocking most of the Internet. So if you an international visitor visiting Rio Cuarto then you would be happy to avoid the Howard Johnson Hotel and make an reservation some where else!! The management of this hotel needs to open there eyes and realize that there is a very big would outside the town Rio Cuarto!!! If you complains about the internet in the reception or to the manager then you get a answer that you can go an sit in the restaurant where its an different internet connection. And yes that one is better. But not much. 4.47 Mbit is the best I get. However how fun is it to sit in the restaurant and talk private with you wife/husband or girlfriend/boyfriend whir other people around you??? No, this hotel management must realize that this is not acceptable 2017 were you need a good internet to be able to work or to talk with your family back home!!! Once again stay away from this hotel!!!
This hotel has the basics covered. Ample room, good bed and nice shower. But for more than 100 dollars a night, in Rio Cuarto, you'd expect a little more. At check-in we were informed that the wifi wasn't working in the rooms. Only in the restaurant. "Its the internet provider fault" the girl said (I could have guessed that). Even in the restaurant it was of low quality. The breakfast is very, very poor. Only the bare basics. The spa was in repair. Forever for what I've read in other reviews. This is probably the best (if only) decent hotel in Rio Cuarto. Ok for a stopover night. But don't expect much for your money.
Driving up to Rio Cuarto we looked up a good hotel through Trip Advisor. We chose the Howard Johnson but the address/map on our iphone app was incorrect. The Giachino 551 address is correct. The price was amazing, the king bed very comfortable, air conditioner great. The outside pool has a place that shoots out water so that when you sit on the pool stairs the strong spray hits your neck and back and is great for weary travelers. The warm water jauczzi is nice but not powerful. The restaurant has special deals for supper Sun-Tues it's 2 for 1- a GREAT deal. the parking was safe. We loved the noon checkout. I guess the only drawback is that internet, though readily available, has quite a few Argentine sites blocked. We found that most US sites had no problem.
You'll probably not arrive to Rio Cuarto, quite an important city in the Argentina heartland, for tourism. Either you'll pass by, going elsewhere or for business. Either way this hotel will probably be "just right". The rooms are nice and clean, with flat TV and a frigobar. There's a small pool, a couple of PC's in the lobby as "Business Center". Location is sort of strange, close to the river and a camping, but a mile away from downtown. If you have a car or willing to go for a walk, this shouldn't be a problem. But there's nothing around the hotel, except for the in-house casino. Breakfast needs urgent upgrade, with little choices. The staff is not very professional (check in took a while) and they surprised us when they insisted I pay the night right away. In all the hotel is just right for a night (or two max!!).
a hotel that seems to be run more for the convenience of staff than guests. swimming pool shut and locked when we wanted to swim ie before breakfast and in the early evening. This is not somewhere to lounge around during the day. unattractive surroundings. No tonic at the bar. Bed comfortable and secure parking are the most positive comments I can make.
Nice, comfortable room with big flat TV. Powerful hot shower, really strong! Quite poor breakfast and not very friendly staff, but if you are looking for a clean place to spend the night, go ahead! neighborhood is not that nice, but just 10 minutes taxi drive from commercial area.
On the way to Cordoba from the South or Southwest in the afternoon there is always the question: proceed for another two hours or more or look for a decent overnight stay roughly 200kms/125miles away in Rio Cuarto? Without any reservation we made the test, searched the village of Rio Cuarto for a good hotel - and there was no need to move on, the HoJo offered everything we looked for - and even for a decent rate. The building itself is central, modern (it also houses a casino) with enough parking space close by, the rooms are just as new, well kept - so forget the slow service at checkin, get yourself a drink at the bar and unwind in the rear, close to the pool. The HoJo is not an upmarket location, but it fits our needs and has an excellent price-quality ratio. We tested the restaurant only to a limited extent - some snacks - because we cannot digest more than one Argentine steak a day - but a good steak is available for those who need it.
