Nice and small hotel and courteous service 10 minutes walk from the city center Nice breakfast There is not much selection to have champagne for breakfast But that was enough for the cleanliness believe I will return there again
Hotel was nice, good value for money. It's not far from the city center, we didn't use the public transport to get there, it's within the walking distance. Breakfast was good and staff helpful. Only downside was that our room was next to the staircase and when people moved back and forth they were slamming the door throughout the night. It was a bit annoying.
2 night city break with my daughter, lovely clean rooms, very comfortable and well appointed. its a big hotel, lots of rooms, lifts to all floors and well kept public space. receptionist and staff were pleasant and friendly, Breakfast was great with lots of choice. its a little way out of town but walkable, just. overall very pleased with our stay.
We had a lovely 4 night stay at the Gertrude and would recommend to anyone going to Riga for a short or long stay. Our room was very very clean and a good size, the bathroom was gleaming! The room was cleaned every day we requested it to be and was always of a very high standard. The staff are so helpful and made us feel incredibly welcome, also orchestrating a little surprise for my partners birthday! The only downside (or what I imagine is a downside if you're short on time or have mobility issues) is the distance from the centre, it's about a 20 minute walk which we didn't mind, it was a great opportunity to explore the city from a different perspective.
Great value for money, clean and spacious rooms and breakfast included! We were recommended to stay out of the centre at weekends due to the noisy stag and hen parties in the old town so this was perfect for us however it is a walk into the centre. We timed our walk to the Province Restaurant in the old town and took us 35mins. It was fine for us but as there are no eateries around the hotel, this might be a problem for guests arriving tired and later in the day as there are some underground pedestrian walkways to negotiate to reach the old town and like in any country that can be a bit scarey at night.. I would definitely recommend the Rixwell Gertrude and would suggest if you are visiting during the week, away from stag and hen nights then try Rixwell within their chain nearer the old town perhaps.
The Hotel is set in an area that has only the odd run-down Chinese or Pizza restaurant. The blurb tells us that we are only 10 minutes walk from the sights - this depends upon whether you are an Olympic walker or just normal like us. After our first foray out of the hotel we felt obliged to take a taxi to the centre. Breakfast was good but served on a part of the ground floor accessible only from the 1st floor - not good for those who have mobility problems. The breakfast room is too small and we had to queue for a table - the staff were not interested. A request for an alarm call on our final day was lost, and again staff blamed others rather than the hotel. Riga is good, but I hope never to stay in a hotel so far away from facilities again.
I'm sure different people pay different prices for a stay at the Gertrude Hotel, but for ourselves, this was an excellent value stay. Comfortable room, very clean throughout, lovely hotel with a breakfast choice that would surely suit all guests. I enjoyed a different choice of meal on each of our three morning stay, and all meals set me up for a day of wandering the Latvian capital. Staff were helpful when requested of anything. The hotel was a 20 minute journey for average walkers, so not right in the centre, but this suited us. In any case, the public transport system is reliable and cheap for those who wish to travel by that means. A free safe and well connected wifi are further benefits.
Very good hotel for what you pay for it, rooms are very clean and spacious! Beds are super comfy too but wish they had proper double beds instead of 2 singles put together! Breakfast is good just what you need before a day of sightseeing! Staff are very friendly and welcoming! Would recommend to anyone! We will be back if we decide to return to Riga in the future
I was happy with our stay here albeit very basic, that's what you pay for. Location is not bad when you're likely to get tram and bus passes anyway which are very cheap and there is a bus stop just outside. The free tv channels are limited to pretty much news and natgeo which satisfied me but there is an option to upgrade! The breakfast actually was better than I had imagined! Quite a lot of choice, hot and cold and even a help yourself bottle of champagne as well as all your teas and coffees etc. Polite staff, dated interior, comfortable enough beds, sizeable and fast warming shower 🚿 I wouldn't have wanted anymore for a trip to riga
Stayed here for 3 nights, 2 weeks ago. Took taxi from airport, we wanted to get to hotel asap. No problem. Used Red cabs. Under €14. Arrived just before 2pm . Easy, pleasant check in. Room 1 floor up. Having experienced a 'compact' bedroom in Copenhagen, I was expecting similar here, but to our very pleasant surprise, found ourselves in a very spacious, light room. Large bathroom with bath and shower. Room very comfortable and clean. Free wifi. There was also a safe inside wardrobe .Tea/coffee making facilities in room too. Room had everything we needed. Lighting very good. Unusual for some hotel rooms. We found bed and pillows so comfortable and slept very well. Our room was at front of hotel overlooking main road, but windows excellent at keeping out any possible noise. Very quiet. breakfast room just down the nearest flight of stairs from our room. Light, bright room. Selection good. Sparkling wine available too. Staff kept everything topped up and clean and tidy. We enjoyed our breakfasts each day. It set us up for the morning stroll into the old town. It was nice to stay in a quiet area .Turning left when leaving hotel, you can walk straight up Gertrude iela, passing various good restaurants, turn left and you'll see the Freedom Monument. Pleasant 15/20 minute stroll to Old Town. We enjoyed Riga even though weather not kind. Beautiful architecture. Learning the history of the country was very sobering and made you realise how lucky we are. Hotel booked taxi back to airport for us €15. He arrived promptly. We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.
