Really can't find fault with his fabulous old town hotel. The location is perfect nothing is more then 5 minutes walk away. We had a junior suite which was enormous, beautifully decorated comfortable and very quiet. There is a great selection at breakfast and really good coffee. The staff are helpful and of course speak perfect English.
We stayed here for 3 nights in January and it is in a perfect location for the old town which has great bars and restaurants and lots of historic buildings and sites to see. The room was lovely and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful and never crowded as breakfast was served between 7.30 to 10.30. Would recommend and definitely stay here again
Enjoyed 3 nights in this 4 star, centrally located hotel at bargain basement rates. It lived up to its website claims and reviews and provided us with a good base to explore the city on foot. Our room, a Junior Suite, was huge and well equipped with chairs, writing desk and full size bath. Breakfast was good with hot and cold options including porridge and smoked salmon. We arrived quite late on the first day and were able to have dinner in the upstairs restaurant at 10.00pm. It was good and came with free drinks as we were resident.
Nice, clean rooms, big and comfortable beds, good and fast room service, perfect bar/restaurant on the last floor with great city panorama, location in the center of old city. Very friendly staff, always ready to help and good breakfast. What else do you need for vocation? Just perfect!
After reading the reviews, I was expecting a quality experience and was disappointed when I did not receive one. First of all, we were given probably the worst room in the hotel. It was on the first floor with no view and did not look like any of the pictures online. No woodwork, just a plain, although good sized room. Our room was right on the street and the noise from the nearby bar kept us awake all night long. I had asked for a double or queen size bed but was given two singles. Our mini-refrigerator did not work and the front desk clerk promised to get someone to come and look at it or replace it, but he never did, nor did the front desk clerk who was on duty the next day do anything about it. So, I asked for some ice and this was delivered but the same front desk clerk who had promised to get our fridge fixed but didn't just stood there expecting a tip. Hey, fix the fridge and I would have been happy to tip you. There were a few positives. Breakfast was good and the personnel running the breakfast were nice and pleasant. And the location which is just steps away from the Riga Cathedral is unbeatable. Still, when you pay nearly $140 USD for a night, I expect way better than this.
Pros: Beautiful decor, clean washrooms; great water pressure and hot water in a good-sized shower; plenty of room for toiletries around the sink; a window that actually opens (that is a REAL plus for me as I love to sleep in a COLD room); attentive, courteous, prompt service at reception; an exceptional buffet breakfast included in VERY reasonable room price; and, finally, a wonderful, central location that makes the entire old town of Riga reachable in no more than a 10-15 minute walk. Cons: Lousy pillow ( and I do mean REALLY awful!); the reading chair looks cute but it is truly an uncomfortable insult to what I think of as reading chairs; the mini-bar selections are (IMO) seriously overpriced even by hotel standards; no chips or chocolates in the mini-bar (which I probably would have purchased, even at the inflated prices) Obviously, those negatives are small potatoes compared to the items I noted on the plus side of the ledger and this hotel is definitely a four-star experience that is very easy to recommend.
Excellent hotel with a good position in city centre, next to cathedral, rooms were delightful and very clean, the staff were nice and helpful, good breakfast and definitely a pleasant stay. Rcommended
Staying over Christmas in a hotel is as much about the staff working and how they treat you as the hotel itself. I want to give special thanks to Marcis, who manned the front desk and really went out of his way to ensure we had a very special Christmas Day at Gutenbergs. Thanks to the breakfast staff also for ensuring that there was lots of good, tasty food to enjoy on these special days.
I stayed in a Jnr Suite in Hotel Gutenbergs and it was excellent value for money and hard to improve in terms of location. A stone’s throw away from the cathedral (and one of the Christmas markets) with a comfortable, clean room with a mini bar and coffee/tea making facilities. Breakfast offers a good variety and is nice and long - until 10:30 which makes a nice change. It has a rooftop restaurant and the staff is super helpful and eager to assist. There is some noise given the location of the hotel, but it didn’t keep me up. Comfortable bed, bath/shower combination / underfloor heating and there was nothing that I missed having in the room. The hotel also arranged a taxi for me from the airport and was most helpful when they couldn’t find my flight - kept in contact with me to make sure they found me. It was a pleasure to stay here.
A lovely hotel, welcoming and very helpful staff. An interesting old building which has retained character when converted to a hotel, but has good modern amenities. Excellent location to reach all the places you want to visit. Breakfast was a buffet with a good selection of hot and cold dishes.
