Stayed here with two friends for a long weekend. Hotel on edge of old town adjacent to the Powder Tower and 5mins walk to the Freedom Monument which is covered in scaffolding as other reviewers have mentioned. We arrived on a Saturday night and settled into our rooms which were clean and mainly comfortable, however, the pillows are fluffy until you lie down and they become very flat like lying on a duvet. There was no support for your head which was very uncomfortable. There was some music going on in the park opposite which was loud but nice to listen to and finished around midnight which was fine...then the nightclub music started! We hadn't realised that although there were some downstairs bars across from the hotel we didn't know it was going to be thump thump thump until 3am (I could hear it despite wearing earplugs). None of us got any sleep and next morning we asked the receptionist if it would be the same that night and thankfully she said it was only Friday & Saturday nights. Needless to say we slept better the next two nights. There was plenty of choice at breakfast but unfortunately the hot food was cold despite being in the hot metal containers. The hotel does cocktail happy hour 1500-1900 which went down well! This was my second visit to Riga staying in the old town and I would go back again though would maybe stay somewhere else next time.

Good and quiet (at least during our stay there) hotel in an excellent location. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, good high-speed Internet and fairly decent breakfast buffet. Only downside was the rooms, including the breakfast serving area, being on the smaller side.

I arrived at this hotel for an 8 night stay at 11.35 a.m. I had written to them advising them of my early arrival. Understanding the 3 p.m. check in Policy - I asked if it would be possible to check in early. The receptionist was both rude and dismissive in her response. I asked again as I said that I understood the Policy, but could it not be possible that a room would be ready before 3 p.m., which I was told NO and that the room would be ready after 3 p.m. This was my WELCOME to the Astor Riga. I asked to speak to the Manager, whom I was told was likely busy. The receptionist asked why I wanted to speak with them. I said it was regarding my reservation, which she said it would most likely be around 20 minutes, to which I said - I would wait. The "Manager" came in about 3 or 4 minutes with the Receptionist clearly having given her account of our exchange before his arrival. He listened to my concerns and I asked again if there could not be a room ready before 3 p.m.? He asked if I had checked in and left without any further resolve. He was clearly without leadership skills and/or any management presence - which showed itself to be a feature of the hotel generally. On return my room was ready, but was told that I would need to check out in 2 days time as my 8 day stay was on 2 bookings, due to changes in travel and business. I aired my issues with this - but assured that it was only administrative and that I wouldn't have to move rooms. 2 days later, I sought to check out/check in after breakfast and was told I would need to move rooms. I refused and was told that I would need to pay additionally as they had placed me in an executive room for the first 2 nights (It was like a single room, honestly - "executive"... Ridiculous!) In short, a phone call to a reservation manager later, I neither had to move rooms or pay additionally. This place was so frustrating and chaotic. I commented to the receptionist that the room was very small, to which she replied "Sir, this is a boutique hotel". This place is NOT boutique!!! Rooms: small and poorly laid out. Location: very good: Breakfast: Cold, mediocre, poor choice Restaurant: Awful. Ate there one night. There was almost no custom in the 8 nights I was there either for a drink or food - No Surprise. I ordered a tapas starter, cold and oily. Pasta main, had boiled, frozen carrots on top of it? Staff: Staff led environment. Unprofessional, bored and often rude. Reception: Chaotic, unhelpful, rude. Management: Lacking any direction or leadership throughout the hotel. The individual I was confronted with on 1 August was incompetent. I have stayed in most of Riga's 4/5 star hotel. This is by far the worst in all areas. If you want a warm welcome, a room you can relax in, a good breakfast to start your day and a bar to relax in before going out - or at the end of your evening, I suggest, any Wellton Hotel, Avalon, Semhara Meteropole, Europa Riga, Mercure, Bergs, Neiburgs, others... all dependent on budget - but you get better quality for comparable money and all within a short walk of this place. If you have booked late cancellation, my advice would be reconsider. It gets 4/5 and I am surprised by that but lost of better places for less money who generate 4.5/5. I don't think it will be long before this place drops below 4/5.

Great location, by old town. We arrived by car, there is a europark garage nearby, ca 20 euros per day. Felt safe to park there, we figured that a thief would more likely break into the parked ferrari than to our car... =) A walking distance from everything. The rooms were big and clean. We had a room facing the courtyard so heard no noices from the streets. Breakfast was ok. Check in was slow.

Stayed there on a business trip for a few days. The location is nice, and the rooms are normal. The reception area is quite small and looks old fashion. Not very luxurious, but nice in my opinion. Walking distance from many sights.

I stayed here on 2 separate occasions in July 2017. The second time was a saturday night and quite a large and rather boisterous wedding party were also staying. The disco went on till past 1.30am and in my first floor room I could hear the bass of the disco beneath even with earplugs. Nevertheless everything else was really good. The location is excellent. The staff on reception, the dining room and the bar are courteous, unflappable and fluent in English. The rooms are fantastic: clean, comfortable, well stocked with towels, toiletries and mini-bar and with excellent wIFi. The breakfast (included) is a buffet and it's also very good, ranging from continental through to cold meats and salads. On my first night (a Tuesday) I was on the 3rd floor and I slept like a log. I'd have rated it 5 stars then - 4 for the noisy wedding party on my second stay.

The Astor is an excellent hotel in a very central location. The rooms are modern, comfortable and very clean. The breakfast is good with a very large selection. Our room was at the front of the hotel but we had no trouble with noise. It is recommended.

The Astor offers clean and nice rooms in centre of Riga. Service is good and professional. Quick check inn and out. Did not have timne for breakfast so cannot really tell. Free wifi and good sleeping quality.

I booked a room for single occupancy and received a tiny cubical and a single bed. Very disappointing upon order one dos not expect such a small room. Be Were of this !!!! Other then that room is clean and air condition works well.

Great hotel considering what you get for the price it's excellent. Very clean rooms, good breakfast and friendly staff. Also very good location and lots of shopping streets, sights and restaurants nearby. Nice walk to the bigger malls. Although it can be hard to sleep due to the noise of partying outside. Otherwise, very comfortable hotel. It felt safe and clean.
