The restaurant part of the Hotel is called Au Cosy and is a great pit stop before climbing to the castles. Good local wine by the glass and enjoyable tarte flambee. Nice terrace and good people watching.
Wow, completely blown away with how friendly the staff were, particularly Elodie. We arrived much later (just after 10pm - I did ring in advance and tell them we'd be late) and were starving and thirsty but no problem. We were offered the Flambe Tarte and cold cheese/meats board which was just fantastic all washed down with some very tasty local Pinot Blanc. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our room was a good size, lovely and clean and the breakfast was absolutely superb. We had also booked a garage which worked out perfectly. This is a stunningly beautiful town so make sure you leave enough time to have a wander along the medieval streets. Will definitely have to come back and spend more time here.
We were originally booked in at another hotel, but as our room was still occupied we were moved to Au Lion instead. We got a nice spacious and comfortable room. Very happy with bed and pillow, slept like a log despite a bit of noise from the road outside. The service was very helpful and friendly and the breakfast buffet was a dream. Best pain au chocolat I've ever eaten.
We took a shot in the dark with this place, and did NOT regret it! So charming and quaint and gorgeous - both the town and the hotel. Ribeauville is very small and utterly perfect - just basically one main street beautifully decorated for Christmastime, but I'm sure every season is enchanting. Lots of fun shops, and of course all the glorious French specialties on offer. The owners of Hotel Lion are very helpful, kind and sweet, and really made our stay so relaxing and calm. The rooms are fairly basic, but completely comfortable, and the bathroom was excellent. And the FOOD!! The restaurant served absolutely delicious Alsatian cuisine - so perfect and tasty and interesting, but presented in a family atmosphere so that everyone is comfortable. And the breakfast buffet was incredible! Would highly recommend Hotel Lion.
We stayed here for three nights on our tour of Alsace. Our third floor room (spiral staircase to the bedroom) benefited from a lovely cross breeze and provided a good view of the vineyards that run right into town as well as the beautiful square in front of the hotel. The gentlemen at reception were welcoming and patiently explained how we could park our rental car nearby. We had dinner once at the restaurant. The food was very good and typically Alsatian which is to say cheesy and delicious. Good value hotel right in the center of this historic village.
Four of us and a 9 month old baby had a meal in this hotel. The waitress was so rude and unhelpful from the beginning. However the worst was to come. We ordereď a desert for the baby asking it be brought with our main meal. When it came no-one explained it was hot ànd as a result I had my fingers badly burnt. Had the baby touched it she would have had to go to hospital. There were no apologies and when we asked for ice none was brought. I have never experienced such rudeness.
On a square in the middle of the old city looking out at a fountain this 2 star hotel hosts a small terrace which is a sun trap in the late summer afternoons. Be sure to book if you want a table. And get in your previous dinner or late afternoon drink before 18.30 as the terrace is only open for dining from then. Comfortable rooms. Kept clean. A bit stingy on replacing the soap. Shower gel available. To their credit they stuck to the environmentally friendly towel policy (many change towels regardless of whether you hang them up or not). €12 breakfast. Good value comparably. Only one black tea option...fruity rather than your standard English Breakfast or Earl Grey. Parking up the hill by the hospital or church (look behind the church) if you wait someone from the hospital will drive out of a space in the late afternoon around 16.00. Recommended by a friend.
To be situated in such an old building Hotel Au Lion is surprisingly modern and cosy. Of course you can see that the building is old, but that is predominantely positive. We got a very large room with windows on to the little square in front of the hotel and had a very nice stay. The bathroom was quite modern, the wifi worked ok and breakfast was all right with something for every taste and need. One piece of good advice: if you plan to stay at Au Lion when the weather is hot, try not to geet a room with windows to the square! If the sun is shining it will make your room more like a sauna than a place where to sleep comfortably - and there is no airconditioning at hand...
The hosts at this hotel are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is very intimate, homely and quaint. It has a good position in the town and a lovely outside terrace where you can eat/drink. Breakfast was great with lots of choice and very nice pastries. We would definitely go back.
What a Nice experience. Lovely hotel. Great restaurant, great placement and the staff is so nice. The host couple is very sweet and helpful. We felt very welcome at the hotel. We will definitely visit again.
