I did not like that the accomodation was very basic, definetly less than a 3* hotel.
In the hotel itself the room was very basic more like a 2 strar, no toiletetrie not even a box of tissues. Then when I opened the bathroom door I smelled GAS ( yes like ccoking gas ). When I went to the reception to report I was told that there is NO WAY there is a scent of gas. Eventually the technician came up and he said indeed the smell might come form the extensive work done to enlarge the hotel probably for the pressure on the pipes.
As yo can imagine after 18 hours of flying I di not expect such a problem.
If possible I request a refund.
Thank you!

This is a great hotel for its location and it's modern freshly refurbished state. The hotel provides a great hard product.
However, the rooms miss very basic necessities from a 4 star hotel. For example, there is nothing but a bar of soap in the bathroom. This is unacceptable to me - i dont even use bar soaps at all as I don't find them hygienic. We had to share a single bar with my partner and needed to wash our hair with that. This was ridiculous.
Also there is no tea coffee making stuff in the room. To relax with a cup of warm tea, you need to go to the bar and drink it after paying 4.5 euros for a cup of hot water. Even worse, there is not even a paper cup or glass cup in the room to drink some water. They left a small bottle of evian water for two people.
I'm not sure why but there was a lot of dust in the room which we noticed looking into the lights. I felt congested from the dust each night I slept here. We didnt understand were the dust was coming from because the room was clean. But switching off the ventilation a bit helped a bit on our second and third night. maybe they need to check their ventilation filters.
overall, while we really enjoyed the location and modern building/rooms, the basic services that you would expect from simple bed and breakfast hotels were missing. for this reason, we are not pleased with our stay.
From the moment you arrive Mama Shelter has a pulse in the heart of old Rennes. If you have time check out the spa & remember to book beforehand. It's great and the restaurant / rooftop bar is a must.
I was really looking forward to my stay at Mama Shelter particularly for the amenities…which seem to champion eco friendliness over the comfort of the clientele. There is no hair conditioner (even upon request), which is not only a first in my Mama Shelter experiences but I find unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. The wonderful overhead shower heads lacked pressure because of a necessity to clean the calcification after a year and a half of operation… to the point where I actually would have done it myself if I was staying for more than a night. The staff was lovely, following their orders but all issues were simple met with “that’s our culture at Mama Shelter” which, from my experience, is not entirely true so felt like a bit of a cop out. The cocktail on the rooftop was definitely the highlight. I had to send my steak back to be cooked a little (ordered at rare/medium rare it came out still breathing and poorly presented). The staff though were very kind and accommodating to the best of their abilities! I appreciated their efforts to rectify my complaint with a late check out as well as rescheduling my hour in the spa, because apparently at this spa/pool they allow children to run free so it’s not the relaxing environment it could be. The breakfast definitely compensated for the above hiccups and the kindness of the staff of course who was just doing their job as best they could. Although I don’t know if I will stay at Mama Shelter again if this is their new “culture”.
Great hotel. Lots of amenities such as restaurants, bars, pool, gym and karaoke. Lovely well decorated, clean rooms with comfortable beds. Great safe and central location.
Only minor negative (not worth any stars as you can read the reviews and prepare in advance) is not providing toiletries in the name of being eco friendly - however I think this worsens the environmental impact as visitors probably end up buying individual items and throwing them when you could have a refillable dispenser. Also a bit contradictory as they give you body cream?
Just worth a mention for the hotel to pick up - but as I say it was a lovely, modern, comfortable, high quality and reasonably priced hotel which I would definitely stay at again.
Mama left the house, leaving the children in charge.
I adored the energy and enthusiasm of the staff but they were so young that at multiple time I received an awful client service (I had to interrupt the waitress while what sapping at the bar after waiting for 20 min, one of a few more example)
Is worst stay we had experienced as seasonal traveller for biz and leisure. The hotel does not provide basic amenities which you should have even from 1-2 stars hotel. We seriously wonder how this hotel is rated as 4 star and charged the rate they do when they provided worse services and amenities for hotel guests. Hotel charge guest on tooth brush and toothpaste and charge on slippers. Worst above all, no water kettle in the room as it was claimed only for executive room guests.. so any hot water needs get yourself from the bar. Again, a good excuse to charge you for coffee since none hot water nor coffee provided in room. And instead of proper hair shampoo n conditioner, one tiny soap is provided for body wash and hair wash!! The breakfast is crap, we staying 5 nights and everyday same food no a single change. Unlike most of true 3-4 star hotels, there some effort made to change menu for bf for some.
There also list of safety hazards, when took hot water downstairs, they let you carry super hot water in a tin pot which can burn ur hand in 30 sec w hot water inside. Bf Restaurant has low hanging light just hit ur head every time u sit n stand up…
I do want to say the staff is relatively responsive but unfortunately all the poor policy mama shelter decided for their guests on amenities show little care for customer just all about making money and profit. It left super bad taste not just to us but all friends staying the same hotel with us. We will ban this chain n brand
