Rehoboth Beach is a living storybook coastal town

Rehoboth Beach is small, quaint seaside town that encompasses one square mile of the Delaware coast. This area is rich in history and heavily influenced by the Victorian era. Since it was one of the first places that was connected to Washington, D.C. by paved roads, it was dubbed the "Nation's Summer Capital." Few communities have successfully maintained the warm and friendly charm found in Rehoboth Beach.

Things to see and do
Rehoboth Beach and Boardwalk

Rehoboth Beach is a five-star area that provides plenty of space for tanning, surfing, dolphin watching and playing in the sand. Beach access is free, so pack your flip-flops for a full day of adventure.

Although Rehoboth has a boardwalk, it is notably shorter than other beach venues. It's only one mile long, so it is good for families with young children who cannot walk great distances. Each end of the boardwalk is quiet, but the center is alive with excitement, and packed with shops, ice cream, arcades, food, mini golf and carnival rides. Visit Funland and take a ride through the Haunted Mansion. It's the best ride in the place, and updated yearly. Many visitors enjoy a morning bike ride up and down the boardwalk as well.

RB Shopping

Rehoboth Beach is a great place to take advantage of Delaware's tax-free shopping. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming boutiques downtown, or head to the "mile of style" at the Tanger Outlets. Famous brand names include Jones New York, Timberland and Gap.

Dining

Forget all about counting calories when you visit Rehoboth Beach. Grab a slice of pizza on the boardwalk or munch on a cheesesteak from Louie's. Sweets are abundant as well; Dolle's offers caramel corn by the bucket and an assortment of saltwater taffy flavors. Seafood lovers will enjoy Blue, a contemporary restaurant that offers a variety of fresh seafood, beef and pasta. Since the town is so small, most restaurants are within walking distance of the beach.

RB Entertainment

For a relaxed atmosphere filled with live entertainment, consider visiting the Bandstand. Located on Rehoboth Avenue, evening concerts are common in summer months. Concerts usually begin at 8:00p.m. and last an hour or two. Families can enjoy a round of mini golf at the place on top of Ryan's Gems and Junk as well. The view is amazing, and the prices are cheap.

Where to stay in Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach offers multiple lodging options. Hotels, motels, condos, and bed-and-breakfasts are available. The Boardwalk Plaza Hotel offers top luxury oceanfront accommodations, and its pink facade and white picket balconies offer charm and elegance you might expect in a Victorian castle. Being quite exquisite in design, it's one of the most expensive places in town. During peak summer months, rooms approach $500 a night. For a less costly choice, ocean-block Rehoboth Beach hotels are better choices. For instance, the Atlantis Inn offers great rooms at half the price. And for budget travelers, motels are a safe bet. Even though they may be further from the beach, they are often within walking distance of many attractions.

RB Special Events

If you like to shop, various seasons at Rehoboth Beach offer sidewalk sales. This is a good opportunity to find leftover beach apparel and other items. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the annual outdoor art show held every August. Besides sculptures and paintings, this summer event is filled with music, food and family entertainment. Each November, Rehoboth holds its Independent Film Festival; the five-day event showcases American and international films, and seminars and celebrity guests are enjoyable highlights.

Best time to visit

Rehoboth is known as a summer town. The busiest times are between May and September. July is the warmest month with an average high of 85 degrees. To avoid crowds, fall is a great time to visit. Most stores remain open, events are still planned and the weather is a bit cooler.
