There is snow tube sledding with a lift and nearby horseback trail rides (in season). Numerous hiking trails and lakes for fishing are minutes away. Certification 22-ZONE3247.

You have seclusion and quick access to stores, library, snow tubing resort, horseback riding and fabulous golf (in season). Complete kitchen and lots of living space and fun game area. Horseshoes, corn hole and basketball make for a fun time. Hiking trails are abundant as is fishing. Perhaps you have a desire for a quiet getaway or a family and friends event, all available at the Cabin in the Woods!

DAY 1 - Suggested itinerary – Orientation and settling in

Arrive in Red Feather Lakes in the afternoon and check into The Cabin in the Woods at 4:00 P.M. After unpacking, explore the property’s forest, gentle rock formations and mountain views. Prepare your dinner with a complete kitchen and grill or dine out at one of the Red Feather Lakes restaurants. Relax in the evenings with the many games provided and star gazing. Satellite television and internet are provided.

DAY 2 - Suggested itinerary – Activities

- Wildlife, Fishing and Picnic Time
Nearby lakes for fishing, bird and wildlife watching and shoreline exploring. Dowdy Lake is one of the most accessible, family-friendly lakes in the area. The trail around the lake is a good choice - scenic and manageable for kids. Bring a picnic lunch, folding chairs (from the cabin) and protective clothing in case the weather changes. West Lake, Parvin Lake and Bellaire Lake are also excellent choices. A Colorado state fishing license is required for adults; three-day licenses are available. Crystal Lakes fishing is available on a daily fee (please advise).

- Horseback Riding
Consider a horseback trail ride with Beaver Meadows Stables or Sundance Trail for a memorable western-style adventure.

- Scenic Drive
Historically, Deadman Road connects closely with the Deadman Lookout area in the Roosevelt National Forest, a region long used for both recreation and forest management. The road provided early access for logging and fire monitoring efforts tied to the Deadman Lookout Tower, a historic fire-spotting station near the summit. Today, the road is primarily enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts, but it still carries the legacy of its utilitarian beginnings, blending mountain history with the recreational opportunities of the modern day.

- Nearby Hikes - https://pwv.org/trails/redfeather-lakes

- Drala Mountain Center and Easy Exploring
Enjoy a peaceful outing to Drala Mountain Center. The grounds are a nice place for a gentle walk, and the large Great Stupa is an interesting stop. You can pair this stop with a scenic drive and a picnic lunch.

DAY 3 - Suggested itinerary – Activities

- Golf
Red Feather Lakes features an 18-hole first-class golf course nestled at 8,300 ft in Colorado's pristine landscape. The course spans 6,500 yards with closer in tees available for all skill sets. The mountain driving range and practice green warms you up for the golf adventure. Drive your cart weaving through these mountain holes with perfect fairways, undulating greens, lakes, and sand across holes like “Moose Crossing” and “Sleeping Elephants” to enjoy challenge your skills. Non-members can book afternoon tee times up to 10 days in advance and must prepay at the time of booking.
- ATV, Kayak & Paddleboard Rentals
You can rent ATVs for the Red Feather Lakes trail systems. The area features over 100 miles of designated OHV trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. Single/double kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are also available for rent in Red Feather Lakes.
Winter Snow Tubing and Ice Skating
During the winter months you can get a half day or full day lift pass. Tubing runs go from easy to challenging. Ice skates are also available to rent for the frozen ponds.

DAY 4 or More!

Great getaway

Loved the location and proximity to Dowdy Lake. We rented a kayak and paddleboards for the day from RC Rentals (recommended in the binder) and worked out great! Enjoyed our stay, lots of games and fun in the basement as well for kids.

Lovely Stay over Thanksgiving

If you want peace and quiet, this is the place. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Also lots of stars were visible. We spent thanksgiving there and the kitchen had everything to cook the complete meal. We enjoyed the many board games too. All the beds very comfy too! Highly recommend!

Amazing views and quiet location! The only thing I would change is that the house was very hot and stuffy when we checked in. Pillow cases smelled less than fresh.

Red Feather Lakes retreat

We had a lovely stay at this property! It was easy to find, very convenient to Red Feather proper! The home is spacious and neat and clean! We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and the nature that surrounds it. We utilized fire pit and had a great show of the stars and the Milky Way from the deck! The beds were super cozy and the bedding delightful!!! We’d rent again anytime!!!

5 stars

Dan was great to work with and was able to work With us on our check in schedule. There was a crazy snow storm and he arranged to have the roads and driveway plowed so we could get out safely. On top of that the cabin is warm and cozy and everything we hoped it would be. I highly recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat!

Lovely property

It was so quiet! Sitting out on the deck you didn't hear anything but the wind in the trees and the hummingbirds. The property has lots of boulders to climb on and around, and it was fun just exploring the land the house sat on. Dan was a great host. We had lunch at the Potbelly Restaurant one day and the local people were friendly and the food was delicious.

Wonderful property

We stayed three nights over New Year's to cross country ski. Plenty of snow, the owner Dan was super responsive and accommodating and the cabin was cozy and perfect for our group of friends. It was insanely windy the days we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the large bonfire area, but the property offers truly spectacular views and felt remote even though there are other cabins nearby. Beds were very comfy and we easily made several group meals in the well appointed kitchen. We spent our down time playing games, watching movies and visiting around the large dining room table. Highly recommend this property!

Red Feather Weekend

Over all we had a very peaceful stay in Red Feathers. The area is peaceful and fun. We had wonderful walks, Rock climbing with kids and beautiful views. The wood burning stove was wonderful since the weather was a little cooler then expected. The Cabin is full of a lot of items which made it a little hard to keep track of our stuff from theirs. The beds were not very comfortable and one very high and hard to get in to. Lots of games and fun for our grandchild inside but the stairs are very narrow and the outside stairs became extremely slippery with ice. At one point ice was sliding off of the roof and almost landed on my grand daughter which really scared her. We will probably not stay there again but I will say it is a beautiful setting and very peaceful.

Heaven for kids

This place is amazing. I almost hate to write this review because I don't want it to become this popular place that we can never book! I took my three boys (10,8,3) up to escape Denver and give my hard working wife a break from hearing the word "Mom!" We were hoping to go someplace different that had acreage for the guys to run around on and a place to drink beers in the sunshine. This place did not disappoint in any way. The house has everything! the beds are comfy, the kitchen has everything you need to make a good meal and the game room was so much fun for the boys. But the best part? The boulders. The boys climbed and played on these rocks for hours. I mean hours. The views were incredible from the top and they discovered cracks in the rocks which lead to tunnels that the boys climbed through. It was hard to get them in for food! The boys loved it so much we stayed two extra nights! Yes! TWO nights! Can't wait to go back - Thanks Dan! It was great of you to share your space with us!

Better Than Pictures Show!

Our family (myself, husband, 17, 12, 12) stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. We normally would hardly have been around because we would be out fishing, hiking, riding, etc. But the whole weekend ended up foggy and rainy and cool. What a blessing we were at this house! The pictures do not do this home justice. We expected a bit of a funky, older house. While the home is older, the bones are solid and the owner has done a lovely job of making it comfortable and pleasant. The updates are high end, the furniture is very high quality, and there is a fun, eclectic sort of mid-century modern theme. The views are incredible. The property's 2 acres shelter you from seeing neighboring houses, and the mountain views from the living room are beautiful. I filled the hummingbird feeders and we were graced with the presence of hundreds of the tiny, feisty little birds, right outside the windows. The kids stayed busy, off screens, for hours and hours. While there is reliable, high speed internet, there was so much else for them to do! They explored the property and played laser-tag day and night. They played foosball , mini-pool, pinball and more from the game room. They sat at the expandable dining room table and drew. We cozied up in the living room with the fireplace crackling and played board games as a family. There's direct-TV, but we never used more than the music channels. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need, and make you feel like a guest, not a custome
