Whilst clean it is dated, dark and virtually roadside. You can see rooms stacked with junk and the garden area is poorly presented at best. No outlook to anything other than piles of garden junk. The picture of a beach and the use of the term beach appartments implies something entirely different. Very depressing property and we did not stay even though we lost our deposit. We were able to quickly ring around and stay at Muri beachcombers which was fantastic and only $75 more, inc breakfasts, kayaks, paddle boards , beach front and comp wine. Very disappointed in the property to say the least
Raina Beach Apartments are clean and comfortable accommodation units. excellent for people who want to just to their own thing. The staff were very discrete. Would highly recommend to people who like their own space and prefer independent travel
3 nights is never enough in Rarotonga but its all I had and chose the Raina apartments for cost and closeness to the beach and with the bus passing the door every door on its hourly circuit of the Island getting out and about was not a problem. I picked up a rental at the airport for the first day which is also a good idea. I was impressed with the size and standard of the self contained apartment which offered excellent value for money - and not a mosquito to be seen or heard during the 3 days was much appreciated. Everything I needed, and more, was there. Basic convenience stores were within an easy walk and the beach across the road was OK to swim. The owners were there when I needed them and not in your face the rest of the time. Evening shows and day tours pick up at the door. Only slight disappointment was the fact that to get the sea views you are right beside the road which is quite busy so not total peace and quiet. I would however happily stay there again.
We stayed for a week. Has everything you need for an independent holiday. Our room was very dated, time for an update. The sea is just over the road but your main view is at trees. It suited us fine for the time we were there.
It was a horrible experience, staying here. The caretaker was more friendly and helpful than the managers mum. A family of 8 was accommodated for a family of 6. Inadequate number of beds, and no offer of mattresses we could put on the floor. Water leak in the bathroom and NO hot water in the shower, and inadequate kitchen utensils. We bought standing fans to cope with the heat. By day four (of our 7 day stay), we had had enough. The managers mother came and talked to us, practically blaming us for all that had happened, no apologies or offer of negotiation to try and make us more comfortable for the rest of our stay. When she said she would move us to another apartment so maintenance could service the water system, we packed and left. The next day going back to get last remaining things. She saw we had left and said, "don't forget to leave the key on the table". The next accommodation we stayed at was very welcoming, and had ample bedding to accommodate us all. We know we wont get any refund for the days we weren't there, but the main thing is we were outta there! And my family could try to recover and enjoy the rest of our stay in Rarotonga.
I was booked to stay at Raina for 12 nights. Unfortunately, because of a travel mishap, I had to leave 2 days early. As a result, upon arrival at the property, I tried to find the owner. She was no where to be found, and I never saw her the entire length of stay. However, I spoke to her mother, and I left a note. Then, I had to buy a $15 internet card just to get in touch with her because two days later, I still hadn't heard back. She refused to give me a refund, even though I was giving her over a weeks notice that I would have to leave two days early. I understand that it says "no refund" in the booking, but I was giving more than enough notice, and I felt that she should have been more understanding. As previously stated, she was no where to be found the entire length of stay. Therefore, if there was an issue, I had to buy more internet cards to get in touch with her. There was no other way to contact. I asked her to arrange airport drop off, and she quoted me a price twice of what the typical cost is. I had already been on the island over a week, and told her that I knew it was $20, and she said, $40 is the cost, but you can try. She was lying and trying to cheat me out of money. While the room was alright, the floor was dirty when we arrived. One of the days in which they cleaning people were suppose to come and clean, we were still sleeping at 10:00. I asked them to return, and they never did. This place is also not close to any restaurants except a few lunch spots. SKIP SKIP SKIP
We loved it:) for the price we paid and having basically the whole house to yourself on the best beach in Raro-come on what's not to like. It's more like air bnb rather than a hotel so as long as your expectations are realistic you'll enjoy it. Made friends with a cool cat and chickens. The place has a nice deck for relaxation and beverages (we stayed at 'garden view house'). Best snorkelling is across the road. Charlie's is just round the corner, dairy very close by too. Thanks!
Each day was absolutely wonderful! Thank you Tanya for the quick and detailed booking! The unit was comfortable, clean, had beautiful views, and ample clothes lines for drying swim gear. The grounds-keeper Silas (sp. ?) was very kind: he let us borrow an umbrella when it rained, brought us fresh fruit, found snorkel gear that fit us, and helped us with the kayak. Raina is very close to Charlie's Cafe, Matutu Brewery, Woo Market, and the best snorkeling on the island. We had the time of our lives and can't wait to visit Raina Beach Apartments again. We love you, Raro!
We spent two week at the Raina Beach Apartments and enjoyed every minute of it. No cars going in and out of the building, few units in the building means almost zero noise from others. It also has a roof top terrace with a BBQ and chairs and gazebo to take in the morning sunrise and evening sunset. Room was tidy with a burner and a refrigerator, the kitchen came fully stocked with pots, pans, silverware, cups, glasses and plates. Tanya and June were very attentive to our needs and concerns as well as the staff on the property. Very friendly and kind to us on our stay. Some of the best snorkeling available across the street and its a short walk to Muri and the Muri night market, Marie Nui gardens, Charlies, and the new Woo Market, and also the Fruits of Rarotonga, go visit Rosa and Mama Puertu Heathers for good conversation, food, and stories. The bus stop is located right in of the building, easy access if you have no car or scooter. Fresh linen and towels are provided every couple of days by the staff and they also provide snorkels, masks, fins, and kayaks for a small charge. I would definitely stay here again for the price, the solitude and all around great service. Thank you June and Tanya!
As per previous comment. There was no receptionist and no sign to let you know what is to be done to get keys. We arrived at the place later at night and had to really go door knocking to the nearby houses to figure out what to do. Finally got told to try the last apartment on the second floor which had a very aggressive dog guarding the doors. There was an hour and a half of an ordeal to try and calm the dog down to get through. Finally, A lady who was asleep and accusing us that she was waiting for us all day even though the itinerary with arrival times were clearly given and clearly stated I would also recommend avoiding giving the service your credit card details. Given the horrible mobile service and reception in rarotonga and with the main manager never seeming to be available or at the apartments when we came along to pay her. It was hard to discuss or liaise money or any transaction. The manager took it on herself to charge my credit card without my permission presuming that i had left the country, even though we had come twice to pay with her not being around and she had my flight details. Communicating with her was very difficult. I found that to be a very dodgy dealing and would not recommend that the owners had that power to do that without your permission Moreover, The second house we booked the next day was not ready for check in when my guests arrived in the morning. The main beach house roof and one of the other bedroom roofs was leaking on the day there was heavy rain. Woke up to puddles and wet bags. Not ideal!! With the 24 hour difference from NZ, the dates can be confusing please make sure the total cost is discussed prior to settlement so that you are reassured ( i learnt the hard way as i had to pay for an extra day, my mistake so just to forewarn other travelers) All in all avoid this one... There are plenty others in Raro that are much more worth the money and the effort.
