I love it! Michelle and her husband were absolutely great and super helpful! It's a gorgeous spot in front of the beach. OMG! that was the best! it also has a pool that you can enjoy there is a scooter/car rental place nearby as well as Pacific fish and chips oh last but not least there is a beach-bar with the Castaway-movie features (Wilson, the throne) adorable The memories of this place and its sunsets will be in my heart for a very long time.
We have just returned from a beautiful week long vacation at the castaway resort celebrating my mother’s 50th birthday. Our holiday would not have been the same if it weren’t for the entire castaway team. We thank Michelle and Paul for going above and beyond daily to ensure we were well taken care of, having faced a few hiccups on our trip both Michelle & Paul stepped in to genuinely make sure we found our way. I can’t thank you both enough. We thank the chefs for the spectacular food they served every morning and night (we ate at Crusoes restaurant and Wilson’s almost every day & night- I recommend the prawn skewers #1) As well as the wonderful people who serviced our rooms and waited our tables while we drunk cocktails watching the sunset from Wilson’s bar, always smiling, always checking that we were happy and satisfied, and ALWAYS going an extra mile, we truly appreciate it. My grandmother, mother, fiancé and I will certainly be recommending this slice of paradise to anyone who asks about our holiday. This was our first trip to Rarotonga, and we fell in love. That being said, we WILL be back. Thank you all very much from The whanau in room 5A.
Debra Inia Michelle Paul and the team at castaway resort thankyou thankyou thankyou. You guys made our holiday one to remeber When we asked for things we got more then we asked for. I will be recommending your resort hospitality and your beautiful smiles to all my friends and family. Thank you for letting my son inlaw stay a few more days when he realized his flight was two days after owns. It was nice to get home to new Zealand and know that he was safe so thank you thankyou thank you all for the wonderful jobs yous all do.
My wife and I stayed two nights on separate reservations, book-ending a four night venture to Aitutaki as part of our 6 weeks honeymoon trip through the South Pacific. The Castaway has a minimalist feel to it. Rooms are really clean/simple in a refreshing way - not extravagant. Pool is a bit small and old but finding a cool place to swim in the Cook Islands isn't hard. The hotel is a not in the main town or on Muri Beach, but you can easily hop on the round Island bus for $5 (per trip, per person) to get where you need to go. There are scooters for rent but you need to get a license which can take a day or two. The castaway offers a laundry for a small fee - $15. The free breakfast is very basic (fruit, toast, coffee, oj) but it'll get you by. You can pay for hot breakfast but that was only OK as well. Solid dinner options including seafood, pizzas, yakitori and much more. Everything we had for dinner was pretty solid. There was good live music two of the nights we stayed. The sunset from the beach area of the hotel is one not to be missed. For the most part, the staff is very friendly/helpful. Paul, a co-owner, greets every guest/employee he passes & Michelle (other owner) has great tips about getting around. She was nice for the most part but tried to charge us for an arrival transfer we never arranged, as we paid for a cab to the hotel upon arrival in Raro. Evidently, the cab we paid for is also the company she uses for transfers so when we pulled up she just assumed we had made an arrangement (which is weird since she'd obviously know that) and tried to assess us a fee. When we inquired she got a pretty nasty attitude before making it seem like she was doing us a favor by not charging us. They were busy so I'm guessing it was just stress but you may just want to confirm your plans/bill.
If your looking for a great place to stay... that offers everything.. that you need to relax.. just meters from ghe pristen warm waters, enjoy fantastic dining, whilst sipping a hand made cocktail... with live music during some of the most surreal sunsets, With the friendly team at Castaway.. Is where you want to spend your next break away. Greg M
This was my 3rd stay and everything was again perfectly arranged. The transfer was efficient and we checked in and straight to Wilson's bar for a drink. we had 9 days and thoroughly loved the food with fresh fish, the skewers and the new Japanese menu. the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was well serviced and we enjoyed the evenings either down the beach or at the bar. Breakfast with fresh fruit, cereal and toast is ideal for us ( you are able to order cooked breakfasts as well ) and often we took our coffee down to the beach. music down the beach 3 times a week and always good that it is not a late night party place. You always meet like minded adults ( no children allowed ) who are there to relax and enjoy. Thanks again to Paul and Michelle and we look forward to returning next year.
The Castaway Resort is a very nice place on the beach, the staff are very friendly and helpful ,the room are more than adequate , the bar and one of the restaurants is right on the beach very nice. I would not hesitate to recommend ! Thank you Castaway had a great time !
Had a great stay at the Castaway recently. The hosts, Michelle and Paul, and their staff were wonderful. They are very accommodating and helpful. We had a poolside room where we were able to rest and relax. Even able to stay in it a little longer on departure day. The chickens provided a great deal of entertainment during our stay. Enjoyed a dip in the pool, and a paddle down at the beach front. I was a bit disappointed at the state of the loungers by the pool and on the beach front, as some of them were in need of repair eg screws poking out and the back broken off one. I would also have liked to have seen more lounger pads available as well. We enjoyed cocktails down at the bar and hese are discounted between 3-6 pm. There is a restaurant onsite and various themed dinners, but we took advantage of the kitchenette in our room. I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast where there were a variety of cereals, bread and fruit provided each morning. Orange juice, coffee, and tea was also available. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was very comfortable. There is also room to park your rental car and you are given 150MB of free wifi. Really enjoyed my stay here.
Low value for money. Let me quickly state that the owner, Michelle, is very nice and kind - but it simply doesn't justify the price. The location is great - but ONLY in the evening when their bar opens at 3pm. Their complementary breakfast is a joke. I honestly can't recommend anyone to stay at this place before they'll make significant improvements - and they should start with the complementary breakfast (rather don't serve anything and refer people to the great cafe 500 meter down the road). We ended up not eating the breakfast at Castaway and just paid the extra money for great breakfast at the cafe. We also tried their barbecue night, which was a big disappointment. We thought there would be a grill on the beach, but instead we were served a buffet with low quality food. And considering the price which was 40 NZD/person (for only food), I would either recommend to get better chefs or to skip the barbecue night completely. You will just disappoint people. We visited 2 other resorts where our friends lived just around in the same area, and they payed just a tiny bit more than us, but the standard was way higher - food, rooms, cleaning, facilities etc. I can only recommend people to visit Castaway for a drink on their lovely evening-beach, but move on and get a nice dinner nearby when you have the time. Thanks anyway, Michelle. We think you were very service minded, and for sure upgraded the experience, but you still have room for improvements 😊
We done a girls trip and stayed in two poolside rooms. They were spacious, with our own kitchenette and outside table & chairs. Being a girls trip, we weren't very quiet during the afternoon having a few drinks together outside, before moving down to Wilsons Bar on the beach. We had rooms 3 & 4 and were quite private. This is the 2nd time I've stayed at Castaway and have loved it both times. Michelle & Paul are very accommodating .. all staff are really friendly. Not like the large resorts, you're made to feel at home. Would highly recommend staying here.
