You’ll often see us leaning backwards over the edge of a cliff or a high wall to get that perfect camera angle.

To get this shot of Ranisar Talab lake behind the majestic Mehrangarh fort of the blue city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, we had to step outside of what would be most people’s comfort zones.

We had to traverse a wild, rocky desert landscape, navigate a steep incline, pass through a tiny doorway in an ancient crumbling fort wall, and then clamber up a steep slope of rubble and loose rocks to get up on top of that very same fort wall.

Once at the very top of the wall looking out over the lake, I had to back up to the very edge of the wall and avoid falling to my death to the ground over 30 metres below, just to get that perfect shot.

This was an off-limits part of the Mehrangarh fort complex where the vast majority of tourists almost never venture!

Epic shots often have epic stories behind them! We wanted to bring this issue to light, as many people don’t understand that if you want to take extraordinary travel photos, you sometimes have to be willing to do extraordinary things and step far outside of your comfort zone.

Every person working within these walls plays a part in crafting a world of wonder, ensuring each guest is swept into a realm of enchantment, if only for a few nights. And they succeed—beautifully, effortlessly, wholeheartedly. They are the soul of the palace, the reason guests return time and again. They are the ones who breathe life into the kingdom. Here are just a few names I remember—though I wish I could recall them all. Rajnandani and Ishpreet both are guest relations (amazing) the front face of this amazing palace. Ram the driver, Ester at the spa, Chetan, Jakhang, Chand. Thank you for a truly magical and unforgettable stay. "

"I enjoyed my stay at the Krishna Prakash Haveli very much. The staff worked hard to make sure the place was clean and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the area was walkable to the clock tower, markets and Fort, if you don't mind a little uphill. I actually walked halfway to the Fort every morning to see the sunrise. The views of the Fort from the haveli are beautiful, especially at night, and my room, 134, even had a small balcony to sit on with a view of the Fort. Highly recommend staying here. "
