A nice french themed hotel..friendly staff and comfortable room. Breakfast is overpriced but that is expected. Rooms are spacious and I loved the nespresso machine in them. All up this is good for meeting and business. .families who prefer a kitchenette may want to go elsewhere given Queenstown has so much options
My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel Queenstown for 3 nights in the 3rd week of June 2017. The room was adequately large at 41 m² and had a very nice bathroom with a spa bath and, importantly for us, a separate shower. We paid for a luxury pack which included breakfast for us both each morning and access to the very welcomingly cosy Sofitel Club Lounge each evening. The Lounge access came with comfortable chairs, a nice atmosphere, wines, beers, finger food, a good selection of cheeses and crackers all part of the deal. The décor in both the breakfast room and the club lounge was delightful, so good in fact that we asked the hotel to tell us the name of the fabric used for the curtains in the breakfast room. No one in the hotel seemed to know but Raphael, one of the very courteous and friendly staff rang the architect to find out what it was called! I also asked for some smoked almonds while we were in the club lounge. Apparently, there were no smoked almonds in Queenstown [!] so the chef smoked some himself and brought them out to us the next evening on a nicely presented wooden platter with cheese and crackers, all at no charge, with an interesting conversation and a friendly smile. All the staff were quite happy to have a little chat with us which made us feel we were not considered as "walking wallets" but as actual people. We have found this in other Sofitels as well but Queenstown's staff were definitely the friendliest. The only negative aspect to our stay was not the hotel's fault, but lay with the Accor booking office. As a member of the Accorplus "Le Club Accor" system, I had booked the room many months before &, because we have had bad experiences with rooms opposite the lifts or even close to them, due to noise, I specifically requested a room as far from the lifts as possible, at the end of the corridor. When we arrived, our room was right opposite the lift. When I asked to be moved, it could not happen till next day due to the hotel being fully booked. As expected, we were awoken by people coming out of the lift after 2300, so as usual, we had the broken sleep I was trying to avoid. It was too much trouble moving rooms, so we did not, but were awoken again the 2nd night as well. Again, NOT the hotel's fault, but something which should not have happened. On the whole, we consider the Queenstown Sofitel to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in around the world and definitely the best of the 4 Sofitel's we have had the pleasure of using. We thoroughly recommend it. Thank you to all the staff. On a final note, be aware that the hotel does not seem to have its own private parking, so be prepared to pay a significant price for the valet parking. I think it was NZ50/night.
This was my first time with Sofitel as i got good deal through expedia. Check in was smooth and fast. Room was very nice and bathroom was great. We enjoyed the spa bath in the room. We saw the menu online for your restaurant left blank and decided to have dinner at hotel but when we were given menu with some different options as it didnt have duck breast or lamb loin (as advertised online). We ordered french onion soup and cauliflower soup, onion soup was good but cauliflower soup was bit bland. For main course we order chicken which was bit dry. Felt like wine prices were bit high but that understood. Later on i went to bar and ordered one double Chivas regal 21 yr old and one double talisker, but i was served 60ml instead of 30ml.(NZ double is 30ml not 60ml but bar girl told me that their standard drink is 30ml). So for 2 drinks i end up paying $98. Finally i had to ask for 30ml when i went for next drink as i didnt wanted to pay double price this time too. So overall it was good accomodation experience but not so good restaurant experience. If i stay there again probably will go out to eat.
We have stayed at other Accor hotels in Queenstown and to be honest, only chose the Sofitel because our hotel of preference was booked out during our dates. Wow what luck. This hotel is beautiful, the staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Won't bother looking at the others now. Sofitel NZ is now our hotel of choice. 5 star all the way.
My wife, toddler and I booked a one bedroom suite for five nights. Check in was easy. They took our bags to our room for us. The room was spacious, clean, furnished with good quality appliances and furniture. Separate spa bath and shower. The service was superb. Friendly helpful staff with great attitudes for our entire stay. The breakfast is very nice and again the staff are great and welcoming. Easy walking distance to everything in town. We will return.
We needed a four day break and chose Queenstown for its ease of travel from Sydney(under three hours by direct flight) and its natural beauty. Our accommodation needed to be central and we chose as mother and adult daughter the Sofitel for its good looks, ratings and location. We were impressed before we arrived after one call to the Concierge to receive excellent information regarding the best local tour options that was very comprehensive and details of a selection of fine dining as well as local restaurants across a range of culinary tastes. The concierge explained there was no haste as he and the team at Sofitel would assist us with our choices. On arrival we were checked in efficiently and it was apparent nothing was too much trouble. The room was large and comfortable, tastefully decorated and we both slept well in the quality beds. If anything we turned down the heating as it was too snug. Breakfast was included in our package and was so worthwhile as it included the full a la carte menu and the breakfast was so comprehensive for all tastes and preferences. Once again the service and genuine warmth of attention was impressive. All staff maintained this sense of true hospitality and welcoming attitude greeting us with the appropriate French greeting for the time of day. The French styling is very fresh and not dated in the restaurant, reception, bar area and made it an interesting space to sit and wait for tour operators or to just read. One staff member from Concierge was exceptional in his advocacy for us as guests to ensure we were not pressed into any tour operators preferences. He went out of his way to ensure he found us a more detailed wine tour rather that suited both our time frames and our capacity! Further, when our booked helicopter flight to Milford Sound did not proceed for weather reasons he sourced us a later flight with a different but equally safe provider. This was the highlight of our excursions in this beautiful region and simply breathtaking. Without Mr Pablo Mary's diligent assistance we would not have had this experience. It was truly wonderful as Rudyard Kipling acknowledged Milford Sound as the 8th wonder of the world. While our room at the Sofitel lacked a view of the magnificent lake it was a great view of the gondola and slope behind us. The rooms were cleaned efficiently every day and as 'tea ' addicts this was appreciated with fresh milk available and a decent kettle. The bar was a nice spot to retreat to after a walk back from dinner for a fun evening cocktail. Cosy but sheik- great service once again. The spa was an added delight and so easily accessed from within the hotel via a separate lift. Both our therapists were very skilled and our separate body scrubs and massages seemed to go longer than the one hour as they were such a calm and thorough treatment. We loved Queenstown and can recommend the Sofitel as a genuinely charming but a contemporary place to stay with truly excellent service.
excellent crafts hotel in the heart of Queenstown. sublime check in by Raphael; brought to my room and had room features explained by Max. jet tub, bathroom has heated flooring, separate shower area, separate tv screen for tub. espresso coffee maker with pods replenished daily. Turn Down Service!! Newsletter specific for your home country printed off and on your door in the a.m. 2 minute walk from Fergburger and Fergbaker and very close to other restaurants, shopping, liquor stores. 2.5 minute walk to harbour. 7 minute walk to Queenstown botanic gardens. 7 minute (uphill) walk to Gondola. Was greeted by many staff (but not all, see note below re: negative) by my name (hence my reference to The Graduate) which is a nice touch. The only negative: being treated by one staff member as if he didn't believe I was staying at the hotel. merci beaucoup Raphael for the complimentary long black coffee while I was waiting for my airport shuttle.
My wife, toddler and I booked five nights here in a one bedroom suite. Check in was easy. The room was spacious, very well maintained and had everything we needed. We ate at the on site restaurant for breakfast each day and the service and quality was excellent. We also received the same high level of friendly service at the wine bar onsite. It's very central so you won't need a car. Excellent place to stay. We will be back!
Lovely hotel. I would stay again. Great location. Can walk any where in the CBD. We had a view of the mountains across a sea of roof tops which was OK. The room was a good size. We didn't eat here but I hear it is very good. Helpful staff. You get greater upon arrival. Cases put to one side and asked to sit at reception where the paper work is completed. Then you are escorted to the room. Nice if you like that sort of thing. Wasn't sure if I should have tipped. All in all good.
My partner and I travel to Queenstown most years and our first point of call regarding accommodation is the Sofitel. The building is located in the heart of Queenstown however noise and traffic are not a problem. The foyer and rooms are impeccable and the staff are professional, friendly and accommodating. The hotel aims to be sustainable which is an added bonus. Storage of skis and snowboards are not a problem either.
