Crowne Plaza Hotel Qingdao

The hotel is located at a central location on very busy Hong Kong Road, yet it is also close to the Olympic Park for nice seashore walking. I have stayed at this hotel numerous times and pretty happy with virtually everything.

Have stayed one time before and Club lounge was closed (renovation I think). This time the 37F was open but only 09.00 - 21.00 so you cannot get breakfast unless you get in the lift and go to the main buffet restaurant 35 floors below which needs some time waiting for lifts. The vast majority of time I don't want to do this as I only want a decent coffee to start my day (and more often than not the coffee in the buffet is stewed). On 2nd floor is the Italian restaurant Murano's and it is very nice. Except....it is right next to the large buffet restaurant (which serves breakfast) and people in there keep walking (barging) through back & forth so the restaurant feels more like an extension of the buffet. Food in Murano's is good. However I have found that the wine in Murano's is EXACTLY the same as the wine served outside in the bar area. It comes from the same cupboard. In fact......the red I had was RMB 98 in Murano's and outside maybe 5m away it is RMB 60 !!!! So, order outside and take it in with you. Rooms are very good, bed comfortable, quiet and showers good.

Location is pretty decent. Hotel feels old, needs a face lift. There is a difference between "Chinese" brand 5 star and Foreign brand 5 star, and despite the Crowne Plaza label this really had a Chinese 5 star feel. Stayed in many of both over the years and the Chinese ones lack the service and ambience but then they are usually much cheaper and you get what you pay for. In the case of Crowne we paid serious dollars for a room by normal Chinese standards. Good news is they upgraded to a suite when we arrived so cant complain about that. The rooms feel like a foreign brand hotel, but all the rest is decidedly down market. The hallways, lobby as always just that little bit warm. When its 30C + outside you want to feel cool when you arrive and cool before you leave. Breakfast was super busy, pushing past people to get to buffet. Food decidedly average. The Chinese food was okay but anything else was just not up to decent standard for 5 star. Elevators really slow. Staff in general were pretty good and friendly. Both the couple we traveled with and ourselves booked with CTrip. The hotel tried to charge us 20% more. My friend caught it before they left and fixed it. When I went to check out they told me C Trip doesn't charge the full amount so thats why it was more expensive. I checked when I got home with Ctrip and that was not correct. They called hotel and I got the 20% back. This is not a good feeling ...

Huge room + adjourning lounge area + separate bedroom + bathroom all well stocked. Room was clean and comfortable and check in and out were fuss free. Wifi was working most of the time. Breakfast selection was amazing - great variety I was completely spoilt for choice.

This was my first time visiting Qingdao. The hotel is convenient to the waterfront and shopping. The rooms were in good shape and clean although a little dated. The air conditioning could have been better in the room and the main lobby. We went to the Italian restaurant in the hotel and the food was decent. The breakfast buffet was excellent.

Hotel is pretty old but nicely located. The breakfast area very small, crowded and food not so nice. The Italian restaurant in house is way overpriced, empty and service to be improved. There was no spicy oil, the soup was lacking of bread croutons as picture on menu depicted. Pizza was ok and food too. The check out was ok

The hotel, service and sleep are very good. The Italia restaurant is highly overpriced for the quality it offers. You get better Italian food in nearby mall with half the price. Pool is not meant from swimming as cannot swim distance for more that 10-15 meters. More spa line relaxing pool.

This hotel has definitely seen better days ! Dire need of refurbishment . Damp smells coming up from the toilet and drains in the sink and bathroom. The level of cleanliness also needs improvement there were hairs in the bath and sunk that didn't belong to me ! I did have a view of the sea though. There are also a lot of works going on close by that sometimes can be heard through the night . Staff helpful where possible but English comprehension not great makes ordering anything at breakfast difficult .

Overall sad by a Crowne brand. strong smell in the room, room cleaning not up to standard, outdated deco, nearby construction make moving not convenient except a AEON shopping centre, the swimming pool is small more Fri dipping and quite dirty. The gym room is not up to standard and room is stuffy. Beside when problem cannot find gym staff. Internet super slow that we have to use phone 4G .

I needed a nice hotel to stay at for my girlfriend's birthday. After searching around for hotels in the area, I ended up walking in to the Crowne Plaza the day before I needed a room. The staff there were so nice that they upgraded me to a suite, despite being overbooked, because of our special occasion! Many of the staff also speak excellent English, so if your Chinese is poor you shouldn't have a hard time at all. You can opt out of breakfast in the morning, but I wouldn't; it's a nice mix of Western and Chinese food, and it's well worth the fair price. This hotel is a bit pricey compared to some others around here, but it was a fantastic stay and I'd absolutely recommend it to others. Quick note: When booking a hotel in China, make sure to check that foreigners (外国人)can stay there. Foreigners can definitely stay at the Crowne Plaza, so no problems there. This advice can save a lot of pain on a trip in China.
