The good: Everything appeared clean. The pools were nice the ocean and beach were fantastic. The main two royal area bartenders were fantastic but the substitutes that came to relieve them a few times a day not so much. The royal suite we had was large, clean, had a great balcony with a nice soaking tub on it The bad: Most food here is terrible! Nearly inedible even in the marginally better Royal dining and a al carte restaurants. The beach vendors in the main area will absolutely annoy you to death. Do not come here for any sort of relaxation. At least they keep them out of the majority of the royal area for the most part, but if you’re in between the palm trees and the water you will be constantly targeted in the royal area as well. The cigar vendors are constantly pushing fake Cuban cigars on unsuspecting tourists. If you’re going to buy cigars make sure you know what their actual worth is and how to spot fakes. We booked a royal suite for three; there was no door between the bedroom and living area (where my child slept). Getting extra towels was a hassle. It took three separate calls to get someone to get our bags and I eventually just carried them down the stairs myself and was beginning to march them to the front of the resort when someone from the royal office made some angry calls to get a porter to help us. The verdict Would I return, no shot. I go on vacation to eat well, relax in the sun, drink fancy beach drinks and spend time with family and friends.

Room We were given a very old and poorly maintained room. The AC was leaking, causing a large puddle on the floor, and the sockets were broken. After reporting the issue, we were moved to another room — but the AC was leaking there too. The rooms are outdated, the bathroom was in terrible condition, the water smelled bad, and there was mold in the shower. Housekeeping didn’t clean our room the first day, and no drinking water was provided until we complained to the manager. Territory The hotel grounds are beautiful, large, and well-maintained. This was the only thing we really enjoyed. Restaurants & Food Food was the biggest disappointment. The buffet was overcrowded, with very limited and low-quality food. Hard to find clean plates or free tables. The meat was overcooked or just bones, some food tasted spoiled, and drinks were terrible — artificial juice, broken coffee machines, stale cereal. A-la-carte restaurants had the same poor-quality food and extremely slow service. Food Poisoning Despite being very careful with what we ate, both my wife and our child got food poisoning. My wife had to go to the hospital for treatment. We had travel insurance, so medical costs were covered. The hotel management showed zero care or apology about this situation. Beach The beach was the only highlight — clean, beautiful, lots of space and loungers, soft white sand, and the ocean was amazing. Conclusion Sadly, this was our worst hotel experience ever.

Let me start by saying I’m not a complainer neither do I write reviews. I travel to PC every year with my family because it’s an easy flight and we love the beach and convenience/price of an all inclusive resort. With that said, I will never return to Occidental again. For starters the staff is not nice, they seem unhappy and I speak Spanish and hear them complaining to each other. The resort was not busy and the wait time to just get water or a spoon or a fork was long. The food was not good, and this is coming from someone who isn’t picky. But the worst part was that there was NO shade. I have never been to a resort that doesn’t have beach umbrellas or pool side umbrellas. People would literally be hiding from the sun under trees. Never again.

We enjoyed our stay at this beach resort. Beautiful grounds, very nice beach, amazing food options, beautiful spa. The facilities though need some facelift. Simple things like comfortable bed pillows, new bathroom mirror ( ours looked like 100 years old), working drawers would make rooms nicer. Overall we liked our stay.

The customer service is lacking, and the food is the worst I've ever had in the D.R. Only a few restrooms on site very few bars to get drinks/water. You can only make 2 reservations for 5 restaurants and you have to goto guest services to make them. They open at 8am and didnt show up until 840. You cant reserve your beach chairs they take your towels. Not a huge deal but people that brought their own towels were able to reserve chairs. After coming to the D.R. for the last 9 years this is the first time I would never return to this resort. The beach is perfect the rest not so much.
