Mediocre resort. Rooms are ok, with nice patios. Pools and beach were wonderful, but you gotta get chairs early. Also there’s little shade at the pools- highly recommended bringing your own sun umbrellas to attach to the lounges. Lots of decent food options for most, but the protein options for vegetarians is lacking (veggie dishes are literally just vegetables). Drinks were solid and free flowing. Service was either fantastic or you thought the person hated their job.

We booked 4 rooms for a family vacation for the holidays, plus a birthday. When my son got to his room it looked like it had been rush cleaned with hair still in the bathroom and worst of all - blood in one of the beds!! Yes, blood! The bathrooms especially look like they need a good cleaning and update. One of the other rooms had a smell like wet dog!! At any of the buffets, trying to find a clean plate was a mission - we would walk around in circles and at times had to ask a worker for one. At the buffet stations there is literally one tong to grab the food for MULTIPLE options. So people had to wait till someone finished with an entirely different food option than you want, so you can use the tong. I saw numerous people just picking things up with their fingers out of impatience or hunger!!! If you are a coffee lover or just like a morning cup of joe - DON’T EXPECT GOOD, ACCESSIBLE COFFEE. My goodness it was so difficult to get coffee no matter the time of day. They use these machines that make all different kinds of hot drinks. First off it tastes terrible and most of the time it was out of milk - the milk that you did get was watery. No matter how much milk I put, it could not lighten up the coffee. As for service, it was nearly non existent. There aren’t people walking around asking if you need anything or even walking around to maintain the cleanliness of the buffet areas!!! This was the worst resort in Punta Cana that I have stayed at and will not be coming back!!!!

Occidental Punta Cana Review We traveled to Occidental Punta Cana as a group of 10, ages 11 to 46, and had an amazing time. The beach was absolutely breathtaking with soft white sand and beautiful turquoise water. The resort itself is large, very clean, and easy to get around. The food was great with lots of variety. We tried the Mexican, Oriental, and Italian restaurants — all were delicious. The wood-fired pizza was everyone’s favorite and quickly became a daily must-have. Our rooms were cleaned every day, which we really appreciated. The nightly shows at the theatre were entertaining and well done. Five of us went to Coco Bongo and it was an absolute blast — highly recommend if you enjoy nightlife and high-energy shows. All 10 of us did the dune buggy excursion with a cenote swim, and it was a fantastic 4.5-hour adventure. Tip: bring $1 USD bills to hand out to the local kids along the way — they run up to greet you and it felt good to share. This excursion was one of the highlights of our trip. We also rented a private boat with a water slide for about six hours. It included pizza, unlimited drinks, snorkeling, and tons of fun — worth every penny and perfect for a group. Weather was great overall. It only rained the first night and briefly once in the late afternoon, but it didn’t stop us — we just enjoyed the pool. Temperatures stayed around 27–28°C the entire time. Overall, we had a blast!!! And it was a perfect Christmas 🎄

The resort exterior is clean and the pools are nice. Great beach location. The Buffett was not good but the Italian and Mexican restaurant was great! Rooms were outdated and were not very clean. I would spend a little more money and stay at another resort next time.

The resort is beautiful and the beach is outstanding. We paid the extra bit for the Royal level and believe it was definitely worth it. The good: Beds were comfortable, service at the royal bar was great, drinks were tasty, and the staff were attentive. Where they can improve: The pillows were awful, the rooms were definitely dated and had the “landlord special”, food wasn’t terrible but also not great. They also don’t collect dirty cups so there are cups everywhere. The beach and spa vendors are relentless, but if you can ignore that aspect, it is manageable. If you are looking for a value resort, this is a good option!

Upon arrival to the room the sheets had multiple blood stains and god knows what other stains on them. Very disgusting. The food is not even good enough for the street dogs. The Buffet gave me food poisoning which made me sick for 2 days. They offered to give us a VIP dinner which I declined, keep your garbage food. The buffet dining area is a filthy mess dirty tables everywhere. The only table we seen that wasn’t dirty and covered in food was the “ royal area” so we sat there not being “royals” they were quick to tell us we can not sit there in the middle of our meal and asked us to move to a dirty table. Most the staff is rude. Which it starts from the top, the management needs completely replaced as they are incompetent of running a business. Especially the person who responds to these as the problem hasn’t been fixed after reading the many previous reviews. The beach and pool area was nice enough. I would not recommend my worse enemy staying at this resort . It’s not “all inclusive “ as they suggest. This was the worse resort we have ever stayed at. So to the manger that responds to be these that they are sorry and a line of BS. I would never ever come back to this garbage resort . Maybe a 1/16 of a star. Not 4 stars.

The hotel has beautiful facilities and very well kept. Service on the other hand is horrible!!! The way they treat you as if you owed them some thing, staff doesn’t say hello or good bye they have no manners whatsoever and always make you feel as if they were doing some think against their will. I can’t really believe a Barcelo hotel has this level of awful staff.
