We really enjoyed our stay. We celebrated my wife’s 55th birthday there. Our favorite staff members were Stivenson, who we first met at Spice(Interactive Entertainment Hiabachi) and at The Kitchen Table. He’s so attentive and basically knew what we wanted when we got there. He would have a special table for us and our beverage would be coming up as soon as we sat down. Robinson was a good waiter too there. Yari was our entertainment and beach/pool staff. She’s so friendly and so welcoming to us all the time. This was a great time for us. My wife said this was the best birthday so far. We enjoyed The Grill for dinner, Sports Bar was good too, Los Olas was good for beach and pool time. The drinks were the bomb. Our overall experience there was a 10/10. We recommend people to be looking for Stivenson &his bubbly personality. The towel art in the room was really cute. The room service was good, too. No real complaints. And the drinks were great!!!

We have stayed in Excellence resorts twice before (Punta Cana and Playa Mujeres). When we checked in to the Excellence El Carmen, we did have a few somewhat minor, but annoying issues: 1) No hand soap in the bathroom (they use bath gel near the sinks, but we didn’t have that either). 2) The table in the living area still had drink rings on it from a previous guest. 3) There was no “Do Not Disturb” sign in our room. Also, the hot/cold knobs in the bathroom were reversed, so turning the “cold” knob turned on the hot water. No major issues, but it felt like a lack of attention to detail that was surprising for an Excellence resort. The resort grounds were amazing and immaculate. Definitely made the stay feel like we were at a true luxury resort Dining was a bit of an issue. We had a group of five and we found we generally had to wait between 30-60mins for a table for most lunches and dinners. We managed it by getting on the waitlist before we were hungry, but seems like an issue that could be managed by opening another restaurant or having more staff/tables in the existing restaurants. Room service was terrible. We called for two items and were told it would take 30mins, but it took around 1hr 15mins to get the food. The Guest Experience staff, specifically Dilson, was great in recognizing the issues and making some special arrangements for us to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. His efforts definitely helped improve our experience and how we felt about our stay.

Had a very nice time, very clean and well taken care of. Pro’s: lots of food options, pools and grounds were pristine. Staff was super friendly. Con’s : staff did not oversee beach and pool chairs,people left there towel there and never came back. Making it had to get a chair, some signage, or attendant cleaning up would help. Guest picking up after themselves would fix everything. Would not hesitate to go back,I’m looking at other locations that offer the same star treatment.

Excellence El Carmen hotel failed us from the moment we got there. Initially when I made the reservations I requested that at least one of the rooms to have two beds as we are a party of 5, but when we got there we got two rooms with one bed each. When I spoke with the manager I was just told they can’t do so at this time and at no time during our 5 day stay could they accommodate our pre-booking request. It would have been nice to know before booking that our wish could not be accommodated as I had other hotel options. The staff were not accommodating and when food was ordered 50% of the time the orders were incomplete or wrong. One night my daughter never got her meal and no one from management even came out to apologize. The hotel had an Indian restaurant and the hostess at the door (Daniela) refused us everyday. We never got to eat there, yet we stood back and watched other folks get into the restaurant. Please note a reservation to this restaurant was not required. I end up paying one of their employee to get us into the other restaurants, just so we wouldn’t have any more hassles. This was supposed to be an all inclusive hotel, making our vacation hassle free, but it was the complete opposite. I usually take about 3 all inclusive vacation per year and this was my worst vacation ever I could not wait to leave. I have stayed at Beaches, Sandals, RUI, and Sweptway in Negril Jamaica and these are by far more accommodating and enjoyable places to stay.

The staff was incredible. We felt like royalty our entire visit. Definitely visit Joan at the Martini bar, most delicious cocktails! I would highly recommend this resort if you’re looking for a relaxing, romantic vacation.

Very attentive staff, amazing room (we had the basic junior suite - I loved the jacuzzi and the bed on our patio was an amazing chill out spot), there are no lunch and dinner buffet so everything is a la carte in various restaurants! The food was uneven from one restaurant to the next but once you figure out your preferences its amazing. Be ready for a lot of red meat! Always found beach chairs and unlimited towels.. when none was available, a worker would move one for you from the pool and set you up! We were not Excellence club and I didn’t feel we missed out on anything. Great overall

The food quality at various establishments was disappointing throughout our stay • We ordered room service on multiple occasions, and it never arrived • While the wait staff were excellent, we found the bartenders to be unfriendly • Our hot tub only had hot water (no cold) for the first three days of our stay, and when it was finally fixed, sand was coming out of the jets • The ocean water nearby was too rough for kayaking and wasn’t the clear, blue water we were hoping for • There were limited excursion options in the immediate area

The suite featured a private pool on the deck - my reason for booking- and it was absolutely incredible. The room itself was beautiful, and the staff excellent. A few improvements that could enhance the overall experience would be upgrading the quality of the room service menu and adding more signage around the property to help guests navigate.
