Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park3.0 out of 5.0

First time user of Sun Holiday Offers and was initially very concerned reading negative reviews after we had booked! We upgraded to a club apartment and went armed with a bag full of cleaning equipment and a heavy heart. Check-in was a bit chaotic but all the staff were pleasant and more than happy to help with minor problems some people were having. We were given our key, 3 sets of new bedlinen and a bottle of wine for the room delay (which I later realised was part of the package anyway!). On entering our apartment, we were pleasantly surprised! It was clean and in good repair, none of the horror stories we read greeted us. (I still gave the place a clean, but that's just my preference). The evening entertainment, an Ed Sheeran tribute was fantastic and the stage and setting was brilliant. The onsite shop is handy for essentials but expensive. We only tried the unlimited breakfast once and found it to be very bland and cheap tasting. Restaurant aside, (we prefer self catering anyway) the holiday park is great for a short family break and well worth the money - if you have high expectations, then spend a lot more and book somewhere else!
Just want to warn everyone do not go to pontins prestatyn we are currently on our way home as the apartment we were given was disgusting and this was an upgrade so I can only imagine what the original looked like. The floor was dirty the rooms were disgusting no pillows no linen no bottom covers puddle of water outside and smelling vile. I tried to speak to a manager to no avail and the guy I spoke to was pig ignorant have put a complaint into pontins but I won't hold my breath my poor kids x
Starting with the good points, prestatyn is a nice part of Wales, plenty to Do for the kids and some lovely chip shops and an Indian closeby. Took the kids to kimmel bay where they had some fun on the rides. Only reasonably decent thing at pontins, was the arcade, even though a lot of the machines appeared to be not working there was still enough to keep people interested. There was also a good selection in the arcade shop for when you've collected tickets. On arrival, you have to wait in the main hall for your key and bedding. Which was a bit bleak to say the least. Then when we got to our room, it was very run down. Looked like a youth prison which had been left to rot. Cupboards were damaged, hot tap did not work, still had hair in the bath from previous holiday goer, wardrobes were all damaged and no doors on them. Litter and cigarette butts surrounded our front door. On top of that, you have to pay for your own electric. This was new to me! We then opted to eat on site as we had the children and after a long drive did not want to put them in the car again. We went to the restaurant and paid almost £10 per adult head for a buffet. There was reasonable selection, but nothing appeared appetizing. We nicknamed this the school canteen. Food was just about edible, but we did not go up for seconds. We were the only people in the room at the time and I got the impression they want to close, I got this from the three members of staff who were just staring at us with evil looks. I assume they wanted us to leave, but nobody said about a closing time, and as we did leave, others where just entering. So don't know what that was all about. The blue coats tried really hard on the evening, and I can't fault their enthuasism, or friendliness, but the rock show they put on was awful. Felt like they was not given much prep time. I don't blame them for this. They were great with the children though. We decided to go for a walk on the beach after, although pontins is almost directly on the sea front, you have to walk all the way to the main entrance to get to it. A back "shortcut" to the beach would have been a great addition. We wanted to take the kids to the on site pool, we found out it was really expensive, but we all had quotes for our kidneys and remortgaged our house so we could just about afford it (again, I think this should have been included!!) When we got to the pool it was closed due to the bad weather the night before. I understand they can't control the weather, but put a sign up at reception. On walking back I decided I would go to reception to tell them the pool was shut, as they clearly don't talk to one another. I waited behind another couple at reception who were complaining. The gentleman behind reception kept spitting out answers for all their complaints which to me sounded very rehearsed. I think he was used to it. I gave up on telling reception at the pool, as I think they were going to be a while. We also visited capt'n cod, the on site chip shop. The seagulls really enjoyed the food. But we did not. Conclusion. Definitely visit the area if you are considering it. Lovely part of Wales. Nice beach. Some of the people are a bit abrupt, but every area has people like that. Most were ok. But don't go to pontins. Spend a few more pounds and go to one of the other sites.
We read the reviews before we came and thought it couldn't be all that bad. We aren't afraid of "roughing it" and expected very basic accommodation. What we didn't expect were the health and safety issues experienced in our chalet. PAT testing on appliances was out of date by 4 years. The sockets that weren't cracked didn't work and ironically the ones that were cracked did. There was 40 of electric already loaded onto the meter so we didn't need the £5 card we had. The amount of electric was probably due to either none of the appliances working or guests not bothering to stay longer than five minutes due to the state of it. TV didn't work. The flooring and the coving looked like it had all been fitted by Stevie Wonder. Holes in the walls and a shower that didn't stay on for longer than 5 seconds. Nothing to do, the pool was shut due to technical reasons and entertainment didn't start until 8 as they do bingo first, which isn't much fun for young children. We left promptly at 9am the next day after a sleepless night on hard beds. It was only a sun holiday so very cheap, but I do expect basic health and safety measures to be in place. Pontin's obviously can't be bothered to pump some much needed funds into the place.
I'd read the reviews before coming and was a little worried about what we would find! I've got to say though, over all I was really impressed. The chalet was a little dated, it could do with a lick of paint and the beds aren't great but no worse than in any caravan I've stayed in. It was nice and clean though and the shower was lovely and warm. We were half board and it was well worth the money, breakfast there is full English plus porridge and cereal. Evenings there's a choice of fish (always battered but different sorts) a dish with rice or pasta (curry, meatballs, chilli) and a roast dinner option (plus chips and either chicken nuggets\fishfingers etc for fussy eaters) These were always really tasty and well cooked. Desserts were a choice of cakes or ice cream. Evening entertainment was great, mainly by the blue coats but there was a couple that weren't. You need to be there early to get a seat as you always do in these places but the drinks are reasonably priced. Swimming pool on site is good, it does have limited opening hours and imagine it gets really busy peak season. Its also really deep! There is also a lovely beach within walking distance if you get some sunshine! A few negatives- Everything onsite apart from the pool and park (also maybe the soft play but we didnt go there so not sure) you have to buy tokens for, some things I get (racing cars etc) but £3 in tokens for 30 minutes in a skate park for me isn't needed. I never saw one person in there all week. This didn't bother us too much as there's plenty to do nearby so we didn't need to use them. In the pool changing room and the main toilets a lot of the locks were broken. Don't pay extra for the bedding, its awful. They must have someone in a shed somewhere making it from whatever cheap material they can find. You can probably get nicer sets in b&ms for less. We would just take our own next time. And take a pillow, you only get one and its really thin. In our chalet (club 21) the hob was really rusty, it wasn't a problem for us as we were half board but I don't think it would be good if we had needed to cook. Overall I was really impressed. Yes some of the other holiday camps might have more facilities but they're also 3x the price. For the price of this I don't think you can go wrong. Intact we've just booked to go back at the end of the holidays!
Our family off 10 stayed here for 4 nights, coming back today. We booked two apartments together, the apartments where flithy on arrival and took a while to get up to normal standards (even mould in the bin) Electrity cards!! You have to pay for, apart from club apartments, why! We paid for the holiday..surely it includes electrity! The TV never worked in one off our apartments, and although informing Reception everyday, it still wasnt fixed!!! We where all rushed out off the pool on the Weds, as we had a flood.. walking to our apartment the drains where overflowing and big flood in the main lesuire centre.. the pool was still closed on the Thurs.. The entainment however was fab both both adults and kids, the kids loved the shows and the two youngest loved the play area upstairs. I would say however, you do need more parks around the site, a swing set and a football pitch outside some off the apartments wouldnt go a miss, as theres lots off empty ground. Lesuire extras should be free, go karts, trampolines etc. Once you enter the park you should have all the lesuire areas open and free, just like the pool is, maybe time for some entertainment passes put in place. So paying for electrity plus lesuire tockens.. all adds up. The beach across the road was easy to find, and was very pretty on an warm Julys day. Overall, we enjoyed our holiday, we made the most off spending time together, nothing like a little family adventure. With some work done to the park could make a decent park in the future... Tips: Take your own bedding Take lots off cleaning supplies Got extra money for your electrity and lesuire stuff Takexa portable dvd player, as the tv doesnt work!! And lastly, enjoy your time together as a family Will we come back, im sorry to say no, but we did enjoy our time at your park.
chalet bleak and dated had to complain about dirty windows and tv not working.not a room you want to spend time in. place looked like a council estate. beds and sofa bed uncomfortable would not stay there again
Just got back from here after staying a week. I was a little worried after reading the reviews, but for the price, I don't think it was that bad. However, there were a few issues! We upgraded to a Classic Apartment which offered: a 'spacious living area' - which it was 'modern bathroom with bath and shower' - should've really said half sized bath 'apartment close to amenities' - while it was close to the amenities, we did have to walk past the cheaper apartments to get to the amenities. but for £20 extra, you can't really complain. As a few people have said, it is dated and could do with a lick of paint here and there to be brought up to date. Bath panel loose, window handles broken and not much of a seal around the door. Only really noticed it on the last night as the wind was howling. The whole apartment was clean when we got there, the crockery wasn't so clean, but more dusty than dirty. The kids slept on single beds, which were fine. The sofa bed was a bid hard, but I've slept on worse. The pillows were awful, really thin and no support. When we arrived, the communal bins at our block were overflowing and they stayed like that until the following day. It's the only real thing I would've complained about during the holiday if it hadn't been sorted when it was. I was expecting some of the rubbish to be left there, but it had all been cleared away. All the reps, bar staff, lifeguards, security etc I spoke to were brilliant. Really friendly and a credit to the company. The seagulls, however, are B******DS!! The noise they were making one morning along with the smoke alarm chirping (I think it felt left out) meant I did'nt really get much sleep that night! Don't come here expecting 5* because it isn't. It's clean, functional and a good base for getting out and about in the area.
This was just a stopover so knew it was only going to be for a night but I wish I hadn't bothered. First one and only good point...chalet seemed clean enough. Now - the rest: Rocked up mid evening..no one on gate, reception shut. Had to trek around site to find staff who said you check in at gate. No one on gate I said. There is now she said. Back to gate where "security" gave me keys and the nylon bedding I paid £18 extra for only to be told no towels. They "don't do towels anymore...but there is a Tesco down the road"! I specifically paid extra so I didn't have to pack it all. Well done Pontins. Drying hands with kitchen roll now and cannot shower. No tv remote and £5 for a card to get some electricity. This is really a dive in the highest order. On route through club I noted areas that had been flooded with lots of towels (is this why I can't have any?) on the floor soaking up the water leaking presumably through ceiling. Many years of neglect getting its own back? Anyway Management r response...don't bother telling me to forward my comments to guest solutions or whatever you call it. I'm sure they have enough to last them a very long while. Anyone ever heard back from them btw? Doubt it somehow
Accommodation is dated could do with a coat of paint, however it was clean and tidy, the furniture is getting tired and the TV was an old one with only 8 channels, the entertainment was absolutely fantastic and so were all the staff, after reading the reviews on here we were dreading what it would be like, however it was better than we expected, if you want top class accommodation then this isn't for you but if you want the lower end then from our experience it is ok as you only get what you pay for
