I stayed at this hotel with my wife for the last two nights of February. Having read the five star reviews I was eagerly awaiting our arrival and I have to say just what a wonderful hotel this is, made even better by our free upgrade to a junior suite. The room was just amazing in terms of its appearance and decor. The staff were so kind, informative and helpful and it was a shame we couldn't have stayed longer. However we will be back I am sure. As previous reviewers have said, the hotel is about a 25 minute leisurely walk to Charles Bridge and the Old Town but as it is such a picturesque walk it wasn't a problem for us. There are however many restaurants and a huge shopping mall within a few minutes walk from the hotel should you arrive late on your first day and not fancy the walk in to the main tourist areas. This was only my second visit to Prague, having visited for the first time in 2002. I am however very keen to return much sooner next time. I had forgotten what a lovely city this is.
Stayed here for 3 nights in the first week of February, we had booked a deluxe double but were upgraded to the Julius Caesar suite. Although the decor is a little dated, it suits the hotel and adds to its charm. Staff are friendly and helpful and hotel is spotlessly clean with our room being tidied every day. The dining room doesn't have any windows as such but does have large skylights along one side of the room. Breakfast is basic but sufficient with a good selection of fruit, pastries, breads, cold meat, cheese, yogurts and a few hot items such as fried eggs and bacon, you can order other hot items from menu if desired. There is a bar in the hotel in the cellar(?) but it could do with some heating!! Charles Bridge and main areas around 25 mins brisk walk, typically food/drink is more expensive in these areas but there is an excellent selection of bars/restaurants near hotel that cost less and a good shopping centre less than a 5 minute walk away. All the staff were great and we hope to visit again soon!
We stayed 2 nights. Friendly staff, and clean. But breakfast was depressing. The room itself lacks windows, even if it is on the 1:st floor. We left around 10, and when we came back to our room around 14 the room had not been cleaned. We got a note that we could get new towels if we wanted. The bed was squeeking. Small TV. Broken door knob. Ok stay, but it is not 5 star. Would recommend to stay somewhere else if you look for luxury.
My friend booked us into this hotel what a little gem. It is about 25 minutes brisk walk to the Charles bridge, or the start of tourist hub. Personally I like that, I like to be able to walk to places, we never used public transport but chose to see all of the touristy things by foot. We are both in our early 50s and managed it no problem walking to the palladium shopping centre took about 45 mins, nice food courts there but didn’t particularly like the shops. We preferred the nova shopping center 5 mins walk from hotel, usual h and m and newYorker shops. We found the drinks in the bars this side of the river to be very much cheaper than in the main square, where a pint would cost you the same as at home. Overall the hotel was great lovely breakfast lovely staff. The doorman was the best, so accommodating friendly and helpful, nothing was to much to ask. I cannot remember his name so I have added a picture
Firstly, my husband and I have completely different opinions on this hotel. He instantly fell in love with the "old General feel" (portraits of all the old Generals ). Either they have never changed the style since 1800's or they deliberately chose the old look. It was clean, newly renovated but really "old" appearance. Very quiet, very quaint but you must love the old style to feel comfortable. Service was good, friendly reception staff, fair breakfast, lovely modern bathroom with bath.
We stayed two nights and were upgraded to a suite. Our rooms were quiet, very nice and kept in old style. There were two modern bathrooms. Staff in reception were very helpful and informative. The internet worked well. Facilities as expected for a 5 star hotel. The only small complain could be a better orange juice for breakfast
We stayed here for 5 nights in between Christmas and for new year and have to say it was the perfect location. It was close enough to walk into the centre easily but far enough to not be noisy. The staff were all really helpful and nice. Rooms were really well presented and clean. Only slight complaint is the heating was on a bit high but as were used to not having heating on we just opened the window. Also is very close to public transport into town or even to the airport.
We stayed this hotel once in August and twice in December in 2017. All three times we were very satisfied with this hotel. All the hotel staff were very accommodating and courteous. It is located a few blocks from public transportation, market, mall, as well as KFC, McDonalds, and TGIF. The breakfast was fabulous and the room was very insulated and quiet. All the amenities were also great. We gave five star rating.
Our flight got in late around 10pm, but the reception we received was very welcoming and efficient. The hotel is situated on a very quiet street a block back from the river, inside the hotel is like stepping back in time, it is beautifully maintained with absolutely loads of character. All rooms are named after General's - hence the hotel's name- plenty of space if you wish to unpack, a safe, tea and coffee making facilities, comfy large bed and a beautiful bathroom with a shower that would wake anyone up in the morning. The breakfast was lovely, so much choice, not only a plentiful buffet but you could also choose off the menu at no extra cost. I tried the scrambled egg with veg and would highly recommend. All staff were so polite, greeting you always with a smile. It was only around 15 minutes walk into the old town, Castle and Charles bridge or if you prefer not to walk try the number 9 tram about a 5 minute walk away. The hotel has a beautiful cellar bar which I can imagine in season could have a great atmosphere.
This is a great find. The hotel is on the old Prague side of the river. You can walk to the castle in 20 minutes. And it has tram and metro links within a block of the hotel. So it's calm, but also close enough for all the attractions. Restaurants and shops nearby. Hotel is excellent, a tad old fashioned, but really homely. Staff could not do enough. Rooms are fairly big and cosy at the same time. Highly recommend.
