Considering the remoteness of this resort its facilities are surprisingly good. Bungalows appear to have recently been renovated - modern, clean and very comfortable. Staff are friendly although things move along slowly at this resort - a good reminder to slow down. Wifi available only at the bar area. Beach area is very limited, almost non existent at high tide. Most guests swim in the pool. Given the remoteness, local foods dominate the menu at the evening buffet with a good range of food. Buffet breakfast is very limited for the price. If you want to stock up on bottled water and your own snacks best to shop at Kone or Koumac on route. A get away from it, slow down location.
The Premium Bungalow's have all recently been renovated - small but cute and the renovation is modern & tasteful. The bathroom is tiny and I noticed the towels supplied were stained (yuk). The pool area is very tiny and not very appealing but swimming in the ocean is a much nicer option. The area itself is very remote and extremely peaceful so if you want a complete get away, you will feel like you're a million miles from any where.
Modernly renovated bungalows by the beach in the remote North. Our bungalow came with AC, kettle, bathroom amenities, and a small patio with two loungers. There were works in the property at the time we stayed here, because they were finishing renovating the remaining bungalows. We had a warm welcome at check-in and the staff was generally helpful. We also had a (buffet) dinner at the hotel restaurant, since there are no restaurants nearby. Reservation is necessary. Although the selection was not wide, we tend to understand it, since there were not enough guests to justify preparing large amounts or very diverse food. Nevertheless, the ingredients were fresh. The swimming pool is inviting and the hotel grounds are well tended and gorgeous. Recommended if you want to stay away from noisy urban areas and prefer isolation. Good base to explore Poum.
This place has been revamped and is like new. Thanks to Steeve, he is an asset to your hotel. Friendly and informative and carried our bags ! The beach out front is quite shallow so really good for families. Everything is clean, well maintained and the complex feels exclusive. Shame it is so far from Noumea but if driving around the island it is worth staying one or two nights. There is deeper swimming off the "Island Bar" for teenagers. The hotel manager, sorry cant remember her name, was also very friendly and helpful.
AT the North end of the main land this hotel is very well located facing a beautiful bay;the bungalows recently renovated are cosy and you can relax in the front facing the coconut trees and the sea;the staff was very nice, friendly and smiling;during the day you can go free kayaking or paddling and enjoy the sea life;if you are there on week end for diner you will enjoy the buffet with a lot of fresh sea foods (prawns, mangroves crabs,fishes...) very tasty;the breakfast buffet is perfect to start the day in a good mood.
Highlight of the stay here was the seafood buffet. Magnificent. Nice relaxing spot after a long drive. Staff very helpful and eager to please. Bungalows are modest but adequate, modern and clean. All bungalows recently underwent renovation and some new ones being built. Some available with own private plunge pool.
Located in Poum, at the far north of New Caledonia main island, this small hotel was refurbished in 2015, Malabou bay is famous for fishing, it's a quiet and nice place, about 50 km from Koumac and 5 hours drive from Noumea. the restaurant is quite good.
Weslent one night in that resort. We got recently refurbished pool suite. It was looking good with a small private pool, all of this in front of the beach. Only issue was the cleanliness of the shower where you could clearly see that that glass walls had not been cleaned for a while... Buffet restaurant was decent. Service as well. wifi, officially free was not working... Not to my understanding...
We stayed one night at Malabou on 31/08/2015 as a group of 5 people and hired two beach front bungalows and were very impressed by the quality and service of this hotel. Malabou Hotel is situated among coconut and palm trees on Malabou Beach on beautiful Baie de Néhoué not far away from Poum. Accommodation is in individual bungalows facing the bay. Hotel is going through a major refurbishment, common parts and half of bungalows have already been nicely done up. On arrival, we were welcome by a young lady Assistant Manager Preska who served us a welcoming cocktail, a beautiful gesture to which we have never been accustomed in New-Caledonia. Bungalows have been very nicely done up and decorated, and are very functional and clean. Beds and linen are very comfortable and clean. We had pre-dinner drinks and à la carte dinner at the hotel. Although menu selection was a little bit limited, quality was excellent. Service in bar and restaurant by two very friendly ladies was relaxed and very efficient and added to a beautiful evening. We also enjoyed the simple but very fresh buffet breakfast in the morning. On departure, when my wife could not make up her mind choosing a local paréo from hotel shop, she was offered one by the hotel manager which we thought was a very touching gesture. Malabou is the ideal location for discovering Northern New-Caledonia. For us it has been the best overall hotel experience we have had on this trip.We definitely will go back there and recommend it. Thank you all at Malabou for a beautiful stay!
Nice place in the far north...in the middle of nowhere! The bungalows are news!everything well made and clean. Wifi works very well in the rooms not in the hall. The staff are nice and works well except for the food. For five days the same menu...1 days excellent sashimi...another day not fresh..dangerous to eat. The swimminpool is little but nice...price is good for the place.
