Hostal La Casona

Room was freezing cold (and with tiled floors to make it even worse), only one socket per room (I had to sit in reception to charge my phone), the breakfast is free but about as basic as it gets, I chose to just skip it after the first night. Overall would recommend you try find somewhere else, even if it costs you a few extra bolivianos

The hostel looks good from the outside and that's it. The staff are unmotivated and don't make you feel welcome. Also the kitchen is only open from 2pm until 9pm so forget about cooking. Not worth the money and will not come again.

We booked on Booking.com a double room with shared bathroom (we got room 15). The building is beautiful with two interior patios. The rooms are quite big and (a really nice point in Potosi) are heated during the night. The showers are clean and hot, the WiFi is quite ok, the sheets are clean and the breakdast is really simple (but standard for Bolivia). The room is really quiet: we had the less noisy night in 1 month in Peru and Bolivia over here :) Note: as the other reviews said, the staff is not very friendly but it's not a deal breaker. They offer a laundry service for 10BOB/kg.

We spent one night there but it was enough. The girl from the reception is so unfriendly with guests in the way she treats them (I was not the only guest saying it). I've been waiting at her desk for 5 minutes while she was on her phone joking with a friend. Then I asked her if it was possible to wash clothes. She said it will be cleaned and dried for the next morning 9am as I told her I have a bus at 10am. The next day I asked for it at 9am and some clothes were still wet. She said she will put them in dryer and it will be ready for 10am. When I reminded her I have a bus at that time she said she told me the previous day it would be ready for 10am... What a liar ! Moreover one cloth was missing. She told me I never gave it to her but as I always take pictures of what I give I could show her she was wrong, again. She was so pissed of when I proved it but never admited it was her fault and then never gave some excuses. Apparently it's quite famous if you don't find your stuffs back. If you manage to catch à smile from her I pay you a beer. Concerning the hostel, it's quite nice and well located. Basic rooms with sheets full of stains.

Beautiful hostel, situated in strict centre, close to everything, clean, very nice breakfast, there is also a kitchen you can use. The mine tours they offer are of really good quality too. Due to how the hostel is built it gets a bit cold in the rooms at night but I doubt there is anything better in the city for that price. Definately recommendable!:)

Not a nice hostel but not bad till we wanted to play they charged us 1 person extra. We told them somebody might come and they saw that as a reservation. At the end they lied to the police and we had to pay. Never stay here in your life

It's one of the cheaper places in Potosi but I would not recommend booking this hostel. It's freezing cold! Despite advertising themselves as having a heating, they only switch it on at night during winter. Potosi is a pretty cold place and it went down to 0C over Easter and without heating we might as well could have slept outside. They also refuse handing out more blankets. The main hangout area is in the courtyard which is just as cold and not comfortable to spend your time in. The staff isn't too friendly either and they mistrust their guests. One has to leave a deposit at reception to get cooking utensils or your passport to read one of the old travel guides. The blankets that you get are also rather dirty. The electrical wiring hangs loosely from the walls and there's only one socket per room. Location is good but there are many other hostels in Potosi with good location.

It's hard to be empathetic about Bolivians down mines when ur fatility is questioned during reference to a macho devil that keeps Bolivians safe and ur husband is told he has one testicle because he is Spanish. Though one brain is far better. Mine used as political leg up by "Johnny" who wanted to guilt trip us about our Western privileged lifestyles. Insight I got was the psychological workings of a potential despot. Thanks very much, great tour.

We recommend: do not book this hostal! It is the worst hostal we’ve been to in our whole south america trip! Staff is super unfriendly and unmotivated. Rooms look unfinished, are super uncomfortable & cold! Bathrooms are a disaster, like you don’t want to even use the toilet or take a shower. We are used to staying in hostels, we know it’s not always perfect conditions. But this place is not to compare with anywhere else we’ve been.

The Hostal is located centrally, one block away from the main square. it is situated in a 18th century building which has been done up. rooms are big, with and without baths and prices are on the cheaper side. staff are professionally friendly full stop. you will have kitchen privileges, but have to get plastic ware from reception. anything porcelain is reserved for staff. bus booking for onward travel was quick and easy. If your budget allows it, shell out for a room with a bath, they are lovely and away from the main busy atrium.
