4 years running at this hotel and this year they let us down. Paid for our suite up front as usual and didn’t get it with no explanation. Now no one will email me back!! Disgusting behaviour 0 stars. Cost us over £2500
One thing i will say is the beach is beautiful and clean and you can walk a long way either side. We were supposedly in the premium section. The sister hotel if which you can use all the facilities is far better, except can't comment on the rooms as didn't see them. We went away as 3 couples. Friends, Yes, but we didn't expect to be put altogether in one apartment. It was modern, spacious and clean but we really missed our privacy and when I saw the rooms we each should have had, the ones we booked with free standing baths (the day we had a courtesy shower when we were leaving) I was guttted!!! The food was Ok, nicer some days than others, but service was shocking , huge queue at hers as no where near enough staff. We were never offered a drink around the pool and very rarely were empties cleared away, again due to lack of staff. Restaurant and bar areas have some furnishings that are in a very poor state, they really need replacing, not premium standard at all. The other hotel is far better, more lively much more attractive pool area, ours was quite depressive , a concrete block looked like it was built in the 70's!Service still not good though at either hotel. It was very disappointing and this wasn't a cheap holiday. All in all, overall, clean resort but too expensive for what we paid as not up to premium standard. Waffle/ ice cream bar at Poole is fab and burger at other pool bar good too. Can't be bothered to complain as your company's do buggar all about it anyway!
Room was spacious, there were plenty of sun beds available around the pool and the hotel is right on the beach, which is beautiful and unspoilt. There are no sales people, no load music and a five mile stretch- so plenty of room.
We spent at week in late October at this wonderful resort. We travelled with our 4-month old daughter, and the holiday exceeded our expectations. Quick (10min) transfer from the airport, great rooms, and wonderful staff who were happy to help whenever we needed them. Perhaps most importantly for us, the whole island felt "safe" for our family. Super relaxing - the beach is huge, the water really clean - the resort food was delicious. Highly recommended if you want to unwind in peace. At this time of year the resort was very quiet. We were probably lucky with the weather, but it was perfect throughout our stay.
Visited Pestana Porto Santo in Oct. Chose this hotel based on the location and resort type. This is the place to relax and de- stress. No night clubs, or rowdy drunken crowds. The beach is a few minutes walk through the resort. O booked three restaurants on arrival night AFTER the check in was complete. My reservations were confirmed the next morning. Food at this hotel could be better especially in the evening. I was expecting a little more from the main dining experience, because this is a 5*. Resort. Previous 4* have been better. Everywhere immaculate. Clean and tidy. Outdoor Pools, Spa and indoor pool were well maintained. Staff were friendly and professional. Hairdryer in bathroom worked well. The safe is free also WiFi. Entertain was fine. I was happy there was something in the evenings. I wanted a relaxing holiday and this is what I got. I was given a cake and bottle of wine on my birthday which was a really nice touch. I would return to this hotel / destination for the peace and tranquillity which I experienced.
We had a great week here !!.The starff were great and the good was always fresh and plently of varieties. The hotel is clean and spacious rooms and the beds were good. The village was about a 40 minet walk along the beach ,or 10 minets in the free shuttle bus, where they are local shops ,resturaunts and cafes...This was the perfect holiday to just totally chill out !!.Would definitely go again !!!
This hotel/resort is wonderful. Definitely deserves it's 5 star rating in terms of location, accommodation and entertainment. Unfortunately the dining does not live up to it. Breakfast is very good. Lunch is just ok. Dinner is just not good at all. Really boring choices and repetative. The outside buffet area is not good at all. Salads choices nit covered at all. Sorry I loved this resort but please Pestana, make some improvements in the restaurants. These only make, at the most, 2 stars.
We stayed at Pestana Porto Santo late October and luckily not too crowded as low season – in fact the Colombus sister resort next door had already closed for the season (so much for being able to use its facilities!). It’s a small resort of pretty Portuguese style “villas” only 2 storeys high which are spread spaciously around a fantastic pool and picturesque gardens and palm trees. Besides the great pool, there is an indoor pool with sauna and whirlpool. However, the rest of the facilities are fairly basic so would say it is 4*, not 5* (e.g. no iron/ironing board in the rooms which 5* hotels do have). There is just the one pool bar/restaurant serving very basic food during the day and you end up queuing at the pool bar as everyone asks for coffee when there is a coffee machine next to the bar! The beach bar is also very basic and note that you have to pay to use the sunbeds on the beach (€15 per pair per day) as the beach is owned by the municipal, not the hotel. But the hotel does have complimentary parasols and wind-breaks at the beach bar that you can pick up to lie on the sand. The 9km beach itself is fantastic and we enjoyed the daily walks either up to the Calheta Point to the west (about 3km) or into the local town, Vila Baleira, to the east (2.5km). Talking with other guests we agreed the buffet restaurant was a let-down to the pretty resort as the food served was pretty basic and we have seen other reviewers comment that the hotel could learn a thing or two from catering provided at Riu or Palladium resorts. There are 4 restaurants you can book – 2 either side of the buffet restaurant and 2 on the pathway to the Colombus – but we could only ever get 9pm bookings (despite being low season!) so relied on the buffet restaurant. But having said that, the staff themselves were brilliant – friendly, helpful and very hard-working. Reception were also very helpful when we contacted them in advance to request ground floor adjoining rooms close to the facilities as we were travelling with an elderly parent and they provided us with great rooms. Reception also organised a taxi for us one morning for a tour of the island as we wanted to do our own thing rather than go on one of the standard tour operator trips. We can highly recommend Taxi No. 12 as the driver was so knowledgeable and we not only saw everything we could around the island but he told us so much about Porto Santo history and the current economy. If you’re looking to do other things in Porto Santo, you can’t go far wrong that pick up the free snorkelling leaflet in Reception and contacting Mathias the instructor who will pick you up from the hotel around 9.00am and take you to a fantastic crystal clear cove on the east side of the island. Mathias is a great instructor and provides all the gear (wetsuits/snorkel/fins) so worth tipping him generously for his time.
Spotless spacious room overlooking the gardens & pool. Buffet choice very good morning, noon & night. Entertainment excellent most nights. Weather perfect. Hard working staff friendly & helpful. What more can you ask from an October relaxation holiday.
We have just returned from a week at Pestana Porto Santo and although I was concerned about the poor reviews I read before we went I needn't have worried. We found the hotel just as it was on all our previous holidays and the fact that this was our sixth visit should say it all. There was only one thing which I didn't like before and that was the very weak orange juice they served from the machine at breakfast and in the bars. This has now been replaced with proper juice. From other earlier reviews lots of people complained about queuing for the dining room, we never experienced that and we were a party of seven and it was half term. The staff were how they always were, cheerful, helpful and looking like they enjoyed their work. The entertainment team led by Luciano provide very good entertainment certainly better than we have experienced at other hotels over many years, either fully inclusive or not. The cinema and theatre shows and the circus show were both excellent. We found plenty of beds crowded around the pool area as you would expect but still no need to lay down towels. We found the food varied and fresh and ate also at the Med which too was very pleasant. The beach had plenty of beds but there is a cost of 15 euros for two plus parasol. The beach compares on par with a lot of Caribbean beaches we've visited.I do have one negative comment to make and that is why on earth do people hang towels over balconies making a 5star resort look like a 2star. I haven't come across this before at this hotel and as clean fresh towels are provided every day as often as you need them. I don't see the need to do this as there is a drying line above the bath which works very well. I hope the management take note. All in all a lovely holiday and if you've never been or have been put off by negative reviews you won't find better value anywhere else so it looks like visit number 7 coming up.
