We’ve stayed in Tryp and it’s parent company Melia hotels in the past when in Europe and are rewards members. If this hotel is any indication of what the Tryp hotel means today, I would strongly advise against booking this brand. The bed was rock hard and sagging in middle. The windowsills were dirty. The sink showed little cracks around the edge. There is no counter space in bathroom. The upholstery on foldout chair bed was dirty around the bottom. The entire hotel needs refurbishment. On a positive note the room was a good size. In the past we enjoyed a varied and tasty breakfast in the Spanish tradition at Tryp hotels but no longer. Breakfast was subpar like one might expect at low end hotel chains in the states. The arrangement of dining room made it impossible to pull out most chairs without bumping into other guests or having people walking into dining room bump into you. The breakfast staff was unfriendly, unsmiling, and uninterested for the most part. Location is not in pleasant part of beautiful Oporto. I would recommend taxi or Uber to go anywhere. You can get good directions from hotel staff for walking to main streets and squares, but mostly walking past areas sadly in need of renovation with lots of empty buildings and broken glass. Porto is enjoying surge in tourism and is experiencing huge neighborhood turn around but not this area yet. The one bright spot at this hotel was the friendly and knowledgeable front desk staff, always willing and able to point us in the right direction for our different needs. However, not so good at securing dinner reservations. The melia company needs to invest in this hotel so their young and well trained front desk staff have a better accommodation to present to guests.
Stayed here for 7 day’s. Great base for the city although roughly a mile walk to Centro Porto. Rooms are very clean and well equipped. Safe/WiFi/shower all top notch. Cleaned to a good standard daily. Front desk always had helpful staff available. Good rather than great breakfast. Recommended.
The hotel is well located within walking distance to downtown and attractions. They have parking which is a plus (additional charge). Breakfast is included and is very good. Pillows are a bit stiff . Rooms and bathroom are good.
We used this hotel for a couple of days visit to Porto. It is situated on the edge of the city centre, just into a residential area. On arrival it felt like it was in the middle of nowhere but it is just a 10 minute walk down Rua da Algeria or Rua St Caterina into the centre. There is also a Metro at Marques about 5 min walk away. If you have luggage and arriving by Metro, use Marques as it is on same level as the hotel and nearest. Balhao station leaves you a long, uphill walk to drag your bags. As you expect from the Tryp chain the hotel is modern and crisp. Not much character but you get comfortable, well-equipped room for budget price. Not a place to spend time but convenient for being out and about. Staff pleasant and efficient. Breakfast selection was ok but not exceptional. Our room was at front so some traffic and street noise at night, particularly if you want window open. Good for our purpose but if staying longer in Porto we would look to be further into the centre.
This hotel is pleasant. We found the room to be large (although not much of a view). It was clean with a modern bathroom and good water pressure and temperature. We did book a double room but it was 2 separate beds. I would have liked to have had a kettle for coffee/tea as standard. It’s reasonably located for most things but it is on a hill so unless you get taxis (there is uber) be prepared for walking. The staff were nice and friendly so I’d be willing to stay here again.
I have stayed there for a week. Location is good-close to city center. We booked double room with double bed. It was clean and tidy. Service was nice and professional. Fresh towels every day. It would be just perfect if we had iron and electrical kettle in the room. I would definitely recommend it!
Great location if driving to Porto, 24 hour parking next door, metro station near by, it's a down hill walk to the river, plenty of transport options to get back to the hotel com. Accommodation good clean rooms, lift to all floors. Breakfast very limited selection. Staff very pleasant and very helpful, lovely Italian restaurant 2 mins walk away.
This is a very reasonably priced and comfortable chain hotel. We initially had a small room facing the main road - it was quite noisy and we spoke to the staff at the front desk who obligingly moved us into a bigger room at the back of the building. It is worth paying a bit extra to get these larger rooms away from the road. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the centre of Porto and is opposite a very nice restaurant (Restaurante Portucale) and a small number of bars (Bar Santa Cachaça was very quirky and cool!). There's a bus stop close by. I would stay here again so long as I was in the larger room!
The hotel staff was very friendly in advising and solving problems. My TV didn’t work, so I got an upgraded room for same price. Quite a walk from the river but good value for the money! Nice neighborhood!
Nice and clean room. Wi-Fi connection is perfect. Friendly staff. Breakfast buffet is great, they even have soy milk, which is rare in hotels. Marques Metro Station is a 5 minute walk away. From there you can reach the city centre within 5 minutes. Will stay again at this hotel, if I am ever in the area again.
