Sao Felix Hotel Hillside and Nature4.0 out of 5.0

If you have seen the images of this hotel, you might be wondering if it really looks like that. IT DOES. It is hands down the most beautiful place I have been to in my life. Get a room with a balcony and every time you look out will feel heavenly. The staff are amazing. They dote on you like you are a princess but they are not in your face. We asked for shuttle service from the hotel although we had booked through easyjet holidays. We got a call when we had just arrived from Nunu to say he might be 2 minutes late. He was right there when we came out. On the drive to the hotel, he gave us tips on the food to expect, the places to visit etc. The shuttle service will drop you in town or airport at very short notice and is quite affordable. Cheaper than the taxis. On my friend's birthday, they delivered champagne and treats, unprompted. Just because they saw her birth date in her passport at check in. The food in the restaurant is amazing, try the cod. I still think about it since I left. The breakfasts were all champagne breakfast and yum! The pools are ridiculously beautiful. Sadly they are not heated so were a bit cold regardless of the sun. Table tennis table available, lounge area with sofas. Beach is close by and you can be taken by handy shuttle for 4 euros each. Only cons I can think of are, don't go if you are expecting a party place. This is purely an area for relaxing so far from a lot of things. Porto is an hour away on the train so not close at all. Cold pools, like ice cold and no kettles in the rooms. Beyond that, I am already planning my next visit. Pablo at the front desk and Nunu both provided amazing service. Thank you very much for making our stay amazing. Oh and wifi is free all over hotel, so even by pool area.
The hotel has an amazing view, all rooms face the ocean, very friendly staff, a refreshing pool and much space to relax. All bathrooms are renovated, the lobby is bright and stylish and the serve sparkling wine at the breakfast buffet. However, the rest of the breakfast was nothing special, some parts of the hotel (the elevator, the pool furniture, ...) could be renewed. I came by car and went to some beaches and a beautiful hike in Viana do Castelo (30min drive, the 10km hike starts right behind the church Santa Luzia) during the day. I had a very relaxing time!!
My friend and I stayed at Sao Felix for 4 nights at the beginning of October 2017. We had an absolutely brilliant time and it was mainly due to this hotel. The hotel is absolutely beautiful - the views are breathtaking. It's very clean and the staff are amazing! They were so helpful and helped us see more of Porto than we would have otherwise! The manager there, Nuno, was incredibly attentive and was so helpful. People in Porto are so kind, and we were genuinely blown away by it. There is so much to see there! The hotel has a shuttle service to Povoa de Varzim which is the local town, and there's a beach there (which was so beautiful and peaceful), plenty of shops and restaurants. You can also take the metro from there to Porto which is the city and has so much going on there! It's about 45mins on the express train and longer on the slow train(about 6€ return). It is possible to ask the hotel shuttle to take you there but it costs a fair bit more than the metro (around 35€). There's another town called Braga which is nearby and we wouldn't have had the chance to visit Braga if it wasn't for Nuno driving us there and picking us up. He even took us to a church called The Good Jesus (I think it's called Bom Jesus in Portuguese) which is very high up and offers amazing views. Definitely worth the visit - it's stunning! I would definitely return here, to the hotel and the town. It's beautiful and can be the perfect getaway to recharge! Thank you Nuno and Sarah and all the staff at Sao Felix for making our stay so memorable!
The view, the staff, the rooms, the pool, the FEEL up there is simply amazing! All staff members are friendly, helpful and seem like they really like their jobs, in this well managed hotel. The restaurant offers really wonderful food in a quiet and beautiful atmosphere and view of the city and the ocean. Gorgeously decorated and clean. Rooms with a marvellous view. The location on the top op Mount Sao Felix, will just make you feel the calmness when you enter. Come to the hotel for complete relaxation, or for exploring the great area around it. Yes, it's a 30 min drive from Porto airport, but the hotel has pickup service. I was there twice without having a rental car. It is very easy to go to Porto Centre by Metro from the nearby city. If you rent a car, you must explore the area! Within 30-40 mins from the hotel, you will find amazing cities with great stories to tell. Stories of Portugal’s beginning and history combined with beautiful views, castles and marketplaces. I've stayed at Sao Felix twice, and will definitely come back. I can't emphasize this enough: Go there!
With a staff very warming, the hotel is at an amazing place. Near the hotel we have a church and a coffee with a awesome view. If you like beach, you have Póvoa do Varzim at 6 km. Also near the hotel, we could visit a sanctuary. In one word: amazing.
Lovely location with stunning views, friendly helpful staff at this modest sized hotel with good food but limited choice on menu. Somewhat off the beaten track so wise to hire a car. 15 mins drive to local centre, plenty to do within an hours drive.
What can I say ! A absolutely lovely Hotel and wonderful staff. We arrived late to the Sao Felix after a long day of travelling and obviously dark and misty. The next morning what a lovely surprise to see the views , it was breathtaking. We could not fault this fantastic place and everyone is so friendly. The food is wonderful and the Hotel is very clean. My husband was on business and I had no problem relaxing reading my book by the pool, all I could hear were the birds , so relaxing and wish we had stayed longer. It was our wedding anniversary while we were there and what a surprise when the staff placed a bottle of wine and biscuits in our room, wonderful . We stayed in room 121 and had a lovely view . Thankyou to everyone at Sao Felix and keep up the good work. A little gem and highly recommended, can't wait to return.
Charming hotel with friendly staff set on a hillside in a small village with fantastic views down to the coast. Good breakfast and delicious fresh fish on the evening dinner menu as well as a choice of other dishes. No other restaurant options nearby. The rooms are comfortable with balconies with views. Two lovely pools at an ideal temperature. Shuttle bus available for the town and airport but a car would be the best way to see the area.
Great relaxing break here. Very efficient and friendly staff. Good food. Breakfast with good selection. Air conditioned rooms. Comfortable beds. Large clean bathroom. Quiet pool. Great views. Reasonably priced airport shuttle and taxi service into town. But....beware the steps! ;-)
I was booking last minute, my daughter really wanted to be by the beach and have a pool. I just didn't like the look of many of the available hotels on the coast and I booked this as a wildcard option, it has one of the two requirements - a pool. I am pleased to say we were very plesantly surprised. The hotel rooms were very comfortable with a lovely bathroom. The pool area was also perfect for our needs with a shallow children's pool. We had a hire car and this meant we were able to enjoy the peace and quiet of this hotel, but drive to the coastal resorts of Povoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde. Having spent a week touring Northern Portugal, we didn't like either town being too concrete jungle/ high rise compared to the other towns in the area. Furthermore, both towns during our visit were cold with a low hanging sea mist. Yet driving just a few miles to this hotel on a hill and the weather was glorious. The restaurant area/ breakfast room in the hotel were a little dated but breakfast itself was perfectly adequate. We didn't eat our evening meals at the hotel. This hotel was a lovely retreat and allowed us to enjoy the best of both worlds. It was the last hotel on our tour and we checked out and drove to the airport, which was an easy half hour ish drive, A very good end to a lovely week in this area of Portugal - we will visit again and we are sorry we didn't visit sooner.
