Sao Felix Hotel Hillside and Nature4.0 out of 5.0

just stayed at this lovely hotel with two friends for three nights, its about 7 miles from the main town but it doesn't matter, you could hire a car which most people seemed to do but we didn't. they have a car and it cost 3euros each to be taken into town. from there you can travel by bus or the metro to where you wish to go. Porto is around 40 mins on the metro. we ate at the hotel due to distance of any other places to eat but the food was lovely and a good price. A set 3 course meal was 22 euros. the staff were so nice and nothing was too much trouble. the room was just right and we had 3 single beds which we asked for. very modern bathroom with a huge shower. All the reviews i saw were good which is why we booked it. The hotel is so quiet, the odd plane and at night the odd barking dog because its far from the main road. The best thing about the hotel is the view. it is amazing and so were the sunsets. No photos can do it justice, you need to see it.
I took my disabled mother here as a gift and we had a superb time. The staff were friendly and attentive to our specific needs and made us feel really welcome. The room and facilities were well kept and clean, the service cleans the room everyday for the guests. There is the option of a free towel each day and also other amenities that really are above and beyond. The views from the balconies and the pool were incredible and well worth the trip alone. This hotel is both family friendly and good for couples. I would recommend bringing something for teenagers as the focal point is not entertainment but relaxation. There are plenty of trips you can take either alone or accredited with the hotel. If you have hired a car the reception are happy to suggest places to visit. We were here for 7 days and didn't manage to do half of what we thought so be prepared for a busy vacation. The restaurant is a bit more expensive but the food is tasty and in abundance so at least sit in for one night to give it a try. Other than the restaurant it can be a ten or so minutes drive to a cheaper restaurant. In addition if you have paid for breakfast make sure you get there early or late as it can get busy and occasionally there may be a wait on a table. We had an amazing time here and I do plan to visit again when next in the region!
My partner and I decided to stay at the hotel from Monday 27th Feb for 3 nights after reading the near perfect reviews of the hotel and we were not disappointed! Before arriving at the hotel I emailed the team as I wanted to ensure we secured a double room over a twin room, I also mentioned it was our first holiday away together :) Upon arrival at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that a bottle of sparkling wine, a bucket of ice and speciality biscuits awaited us in our room. Very sweet of the staff to make our arrival so special. From day one, the staff were helpful, friendly, patient and very attentive. Our time at the hotel was during their low season so we felt as if we had the hotel to ourselves most days - not a problem as we wanted time away to relax from hustle of our everyday lives. Our room was very clean and spacious with a balcony that provided a speculator view as was the view from the restaurant. Towels were changed everyday and our room cleaned daily too. The location of the hotel was approximately a 40 minute drive from Porto airport (€35/40) and a 10 minute drive to the metro station which the hotel provided for a €2.50 fee. Nuno the hotel manager even gave us a tour of the local town. The views around the hotel were AMAZING! The view from the 500 staircase were picturesque and we took quite a few photos as we couldn't get enough of the scenery. If you want a quiet hotel away from busy Porto this is the place for you. We would advise that you travel in to town to buy snacks/drinks as there aren't any local shops nearby, in fact apart from houses and a small cafe further up the hill there is nothing else within walking distance. The hotel has a nice bar, open balconies and an outdoor swimming pool. There is also a TV and pool table on the lower floor. Not really a hotel for children as there isn't much to entertain them. A return metro ticket into Porto was €6 pp, in Porto you will be able to easily navigate around the city and enjoy the sights. We choose to book a city tour which included a boat trip and tours of port cellars for €20 each. We booked bed and breakfast and we were satisfied with the selection of breads, pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and the hotel food on offer scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. Basically the typical continental breakfast. We choose to eat dinner at the hotel on our first night and found the prices reasonable and the food tasty. We would definitely return to the hotel again, especially in warmer months and have even thought about arranging a couples break with our friends and family. This hotel would be ideal for celebrations such as weddings due to its location and scenery. Thank you Pablo, Nuno and the rest of the management for a very enjoyable and memorable holiday.
My family (two adults and one 10-year-old child) decided we needed a quiet getaway to shake off the stress of school, work and the holidays. Most of the options we looked at were more than we were willing to pay, with many places blatantly charging above premium prices for the holiday period. Our research led us to the Sao Felix Hotel located near Porto, Portugal. Through some pleasant e-mail fact-finding and pricing option exchanges with the hotel staff, we booked a four-night stay with half board and round-trip airport transfer. We landed at Porto and quickly found Sao Felix Hotel staff member "Nunou" holding a sign with our family name. From his first smile and welcoming handshake, it felt as if we were going to visit an old family friend rather than just being another name on a hotel guest register. The Sao Felix Hotel is set picturesquely on the top of Sao Felix Hill, located just above the small city of Povoa de Varzim. The village closest to the hotel is called Laundos, which is nestled at the foot of the hill. Just up the street from the hotel is an impressive monument to immigration erected by a local resident. It features an elaborate staircase that rises a few hundred steps from the street to a compass-themed platform featuring larger-than-life figures of a family walking toward a new life. The hotel advertises "serene hilltop lodging" and it delivers on that promise. With only 46 rooms spread over five floors, the Sao Felix feels more like a large private villa than a hotel. And all of the staff - not just Nunou - treated us as if we were visiting family members. This attitude probably stems from the fact that the hotel is a family-owned business. Without corporate rules and policies to follow, the staff was more than willing to accommodate our reasonable requests. They even offered a few things we did not ask for, such as providing a sack lunch for us on a day we launched out of the hotel before breakfast was served. The half-board option was a good choice for our needs. We enjoyed the daily continental breakfast before heading out for a daily adventure and then sat down to dinner each night upon returning. Overall, the food was good. The breakfast was standard fare - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, cold cuts, a variety of breads and cereals and plenty of good coffee. The dinners were exceptionally good. Our half-board option included a different three-course set menu each night. Within the menu, there were choices between two appetizers (usually a salad and another hot option), a choice of main course (usually three choices: a meat dish with vegetables, a fish dish of some sort and a pasta dish) and a choice between two desserts. An ala carte menu was also available for an extra charge but we were always pleased with the set menu choices. I am not an expert food critic, but I know good food. All of the dinners were we served were excellent. The portions were plentiful. We walked away most nights feeling more than a little "stuffed." The hotel also has a good wine list, to include some local house wines that go for only 12 Euros per bottle. To help burn off all of that food, the hotel offers assistance in booking some local attractions, such as a shooting club and an adventure park. If you just want to explore, they offer an efficient and economical (5 Euros per person round trip) van shuttle from the hotel to the metro station in Povoa de Varzim. We took the shuttle two days in a row. On the first day we explored the interesting little town on foot to check out the shopping district, the beach and a good local restaurant. For the second day we caught the "express" metro train into Porto (6 Euro round trip per person) and explored that wonderful city, to include the obligatory taste of world-renowned Port wine. If you want to explore beyond Povoa de Varzim and Porto, I would recommend getting a rental car. I rate the Sao Felix Hotel as five stars for value, comfort, cleanliness, food and, above all else, service. While it may not fit the true definition of a "five star hotel," the Sao Felix Hotel is definitely a top-tier choice for families looking for a good place to spend some quality time together and a good base location for exploring the northern region of Portugal.
Well situated hotel in a beautiful area close to a golfcourse and the ocean. Not very expensive and a great location to make some roundtrips in the north of Portugal. Was recently refurbished. Staff was friendly.
I would give this hotel 10 Stars if I could. The entire facility was super clean and well managed. The team of hosts are phenomenal. From the initial call with Paulo, to the check in service and personal escort to our room, the shuttle service in/around town and to and from the airport , the concierge service, the breakfast/dinner staff, the Bartender, the housekeeping staff, everyone was exceptionally friendly, helpful, thorough, and just overall good people. One of the host even complimented us at dinner for our excellent four word vocabulary in Portuguese and gave us a few more words to add- she was amazing! The facility is wonderful. Rooms are large and spacious with modern furniture and very comfortable. The shower is huge and offers a rain shower option as well as a hand held option. The balcony was clean and had a table and chairs. The community areas are clean and offer a wide range of settings to sit and relax in while having a cocktail, waiting for dinner, or just to sit and admire the views and ambiance. The outside is also well kept and very nice area to walk. The location and views were fabulous and the peacefulness offered my daughter and I an opportunity to not only enjoy her birthday trip but relax from the from the days of touring and shopping. The metro is super easy to navigate thanks to the guidance from Nuno and Abigail. Taxi service is also very quick and affordable. The breakfast and dinner were great with many options to choose from. I will definitely share this wonderful place with my friends and family.. and will most definitely be visiting again! Big Kidos and a huge obrigado (thank you) to all the staff at Sao Felix Hotel for making my daughters birthday and our vacation memorable! See ya soon!
We arrived and had been upgraded to a superior room with a sea view, which was a few miles away but good to see from the top floor room. The next morning, no sea view - mist obscured it, the following morning worse with fog! The location really needs a car as you are in a quiet area with not much around for some miles. The room was modern, very well appointed and a fine bathroom with a shower. The pool was cold to get in but very pleasant once you were swimming. The evening menu was a bit boring - the second night, we ate a la carte, which was better. Breakfast had good choices. Service was good and the restaurant staff friendly.
We arrived at this hotel on 6th September 2016 for a stay of 14 nights. We do not drive so were met by the hotel shuttle. Our welcome at the hotel was warm and friendly, the room was superb and so CLEAN - unlike so many other places we have stayed. The food was excellent, the public areas and pool ideal. We were given two weeks of peace and a slice of heaven. All the staff from the Owner/Manager to the housekeeping ladies were helpful and friendly - we really felt we had come home with the added benefit of someone else doing the shopping, cooking, washing up, housework and gardening. We came home totally relaxed and determined to visit again. If you do go there by car you will feel a bit isolated at first but use the shuttle - we went to some gorgeous places and yes, sure, you pay for the use of the vehicle and driver but we factored that into the holiday and enjoyed six trips out two of which were small towns with historic interest, recommended by the Boss! The views from this place are magnificent, across country and villages to the distant town of Povoa de Varzim (11 km) and the Atlantic as a backdrop. Thank you to all at Sao Felix Hotel - we will be back!
We arrived in the evening and got welcomed warmly. We got our rooms which were both great and modern. A nice rain shower and good bed. The view was also great. You could see the sea and the nearby city. On a clear day you almost can see Porto. On a clear night the view is also great! Breakfast is the same everyday but good and plentiful. For lunch you can get nice snacks like a good burger or salad. For diner it is also fine! If you want something different you have to drive for at least 15 to 20 minutes. The staff cares for you a lot and are all very very kind and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. If you want to enjoy the silence and relax it's the best hotel ever. I will come back!
This was my first experience of Portugal and I loved it. We came here with 2 friends who were staying in the centre of Porto in an Airbnb. I decided I wanted something more luxury and after lots of research booked this hotel. We had a horrible experience at the airport with a hire car. We booked with Enterprise as recognised firms on Expedia. When we arrived we were expected to put down a credit card deposit of 1400 Euros something neither of us could afford and were very shocked! We got away with a 100 Euro deposit and non-refundable 67 Euros. This hotel is in the middle of no where and very hard to get about without a hire car so on the flipside I am so glad we had the car. We arrived and the reception staff at the time actually escorted us to the room which was brilliant customer service. The room was lovely and the view from the balcony was out of this world. We drove into Porto most days which is so easy to navigate and about 40mins drive. The car parking everywhere we visited was very cheap. Every morning before heading out we had a few hours by the pool - wow. It was quiet, you didn't have to fight to get a sunbed and a towel was provided free of charge by the hotel, again something new to me - not even a deposit was required. The hotel was clean and very presentable. I loved breakfast - lots of choice of breads, hams, cheese, cereal. My husband would have liked more hot bits (only bacon, egg and small sausages) but for the size of the hotel this was adequate. On our check out at 630am we were even provided breakfast. I would be back here within a heartbeat. The views were breathtaking and the hotel was exceptional. A few things to try - cable cars in Porto, a boat trip and a beach day!
