Hotel Malaposta3.0 out of 5.0

Malaposta is well located, convenient and clean. It's fine as a place to sleep, shower and continue your work / vacation. The included buffet breakfast is good. The in room WiFi measured 15-20Mbps (down) and 2Mbps (Up), so streaming Netflix and FaceTime worked perfectly. Do not expect modern, recently renovated, glass and chrome. The price varies quite a bit, aim for around €55/night and no more that €100/night peak.
We were travelling by train, so location great for metro and train stations. Quiet street but with walking access to lots of authentic restaurants and bars. Breakfast was fine, although the room probably gets very busy at peak seasons. Porto is very hilly, worth bearing in mind this hotel is at the top of a hill.
The Hotel is a good base to view the city and within walking distance of a lot of attractions. The hotel is basic enough but its clean and the staff are friendly. The breakfast area is a little small and can be a bit cramped when a few guests are in there but we just waited until it cleared a bit.
Very good situation, nice staff, rooms clean and correct, is not a four star hotel but it is worthy, perhaps the place for breakfast is very small and when everybody come there is no place for all. The area of the city where the hotel is situated is very popular with many bars and restaurants.
My Wife and I booked a room based on the availability in Oporto for three nights. Parking is 15 euro per day in a parking lot just over 600 meters from the hotel. The photos posted by the hotel is not a representation of the room we had. Old, run down, buggers here and the, the spare roll of TP had some brow substance smeared on it and spots of what looked like blood on the sheets. Luckily we had been at a relatives apartment in Pombal and had some TP with us. The beds we uncomfortable. The elevator small and the breakfast room cramped. Yes our stay included the free breakfast. Day one wasn't to bad, edible but day two was a complete turn off for me with mouldy sliced bread. Get there from breakfast before 8 am or you with have to wait or eat in the lobby. The location was not so convenient and the building next door was under construction. For what we paid it was not worth it at all. It reminded me of a hotel I unfortunately experience in Santa Lucia, Cuba a coup,e of years ago. Oporto was nice but I was glad to check out and hit the road far from this hotel.
Although well located and with nice staff the hotel is needing some renovation. The breakfast is good but the room is quite small; when many people come at same time, either you wait for a table or you share it with other guests.
Hotel had all we needed: conformable room, quiet, breakfast, wifi. But, we did not find it very clean, the breakfast room was quite small to accommodate so many people, and the food choice was limited. The staff was helpful only if we asked for specific information. Overall a good stay, but probably could find better. Great location however, but remember Porto is a pretty small city!
We were booked on the first floor, into a very dark room with the smell of sewer gas in the bathroom. When the front desk was informed, the result to remedy the odor was to open the bedroom window. After informing them it was not a cure, we were transferred to another room - it had a bed and a wooden chair. The breakfast is only cold food. We were charged a daily fee to use the room safe! The professional photos of this hotel must be from one select room on the top floor - ours looked more like a reform school.
They try to cover the mold with horrible air freshener. We got headaches from that! Our room wasn't even close to what the pictures look like. It is the worst Hotel I have ever stayed, especially for the value. Do yourself a favor and don't book it.
The person who is supposed to be a receptionist here, Claudia, made me really wonder how the hell did she end up on that position. She has it all - for a job at a prison. She did not greet me at all when I entered the hotel for the first time - when she finally noticed me, she kept on looking at her screen, she asked for my ID after being said "Good afternoon", with a voice so arrogant that I thought that she was actually joking. Claudia was then unable to activate the key card for my room. When I came back to the reception after I couldn't enter the room for the first time, she gave me the look as if I were an idiot. Then she reactivated the thing and sent an intern with me - who was obviously supposed to show me how the card works. When we both couldn't open the door and came down again, she gave me a new card, which "works". It didn't. I came down again, for the third time. It took her 20 more minutes to figure out what was happening. I didn't expect an apology from a person who didn't even say "Hello" when she saw me for the first time, and I didn't get one. The card incidet is actually irrelevant in this review... the outrageous behavior of Claudia made me write it. Another small point: there in an intercourse happening in the room next to mine as I speak. It is like if they were in my bed and they are not even loud.
