The hotel in itself is okay, though located a bit far away. Catarina street is indeed a shopping street with lots of people but the part where the hotel is located is quite far from the center and not pleasant at all to walk at night. I noticed other hotels closer to the center of the street. The room is ok, breakfast is nice, but the most shocking thing was the check in. i arrived at around 10pm and was met by an old guy with no english and very limited french. That was the worst in my life late check in experience and i could not imagine that one hour later i would be still standing all in tears. This old guy could not find my booking, screamed at me and pointed me at the door, demanding I get outside. After my unsuccessful calls to website where i booked the hotel and about an hour of waiting and trying to show him email booking confirmation, asking a pen to write the name, which he refused, and asking to check again, he managed to bring me to tears and finally found the booking. No apologies, he just demanded that I cried quieter. Other guests were also shocked by his manners and behavior. the morning girls at reception were nice and friendly but the night and the day were ruined. I think it's possible to find a place to stay closer to the center for the same money and much better attitude to guests.
Very good people from the reception and during stay with my family. Nice breakfast and Internet included for a reasonable price. Very kind staff helping to better enjoy the sightseeing and topical food in the marvelous Porto and near cities!
Friendly, courteous staff, with functional small rooms. Right next to the metro and or you can walked to central Porto. If walking has you down, you can just take a taxi for 5-7 Euro's I liked the beans and scrambled eggs , served during the complementary breakfast.
The room was simple, air-conditioned with basic facilities.Staff were courteous and efficient. The property was always clean and tidy.A helpful night porte meant you had freedom to come and go at any time.
Really friendly staff, beautiful interior. The room was clean and tidied up every day, amazing breakfast. Location is very good, 5min from main shopping area, 2mins away from Metro Station. Really does tick all the boxes and i will surely recommend and book this hostel next time i visit Porto
A good 20 minutes walk from the centre but only a couple of minutes from Marques metro station. The area is a little run down but not a problem. The hotel room was smallish but comfortable, only issue was the lack of any sort of view from the window. Breakfast was varied and good quality, the only real negative for the hotel was the coffee that was truly awful. Staff were al friendly and the highlight of the hotel was probably Alex the 71 year old night porter, a real character. Wi-Fi fine. There are undoubtedly better hotels around but the value here is excellent.
Staying at Costo do Sol was a pleasure. Quiet room with all basic amenities including fridge, comfortable beds and nice bathroom, also great central heating! Very helpful and friendly staff and Alex the night receptionist was such a character! Breakfast was exceptionally good, varied with healthy options and a superb array of pastries! Good location, could walk into the city or take the nearby metro. All in all fantastic value for money.
The most important thing about Costa del Sol was its location very close to the Marques metro station ( 100 m) and to the most important pedestrian street in Porto , Rua Catarina. The room was large enough for 2 people, we had private bathroom with everything we needed, including hairdryer which for two girls is very important. There was a very clean room and bathroom and they did the housekeeping every day and changed the towels daily also. Our room was at the ground floor so it wasn't noisy at all. We didn't have any spectacular view but it was quiet. The TV had enough channels in different languages in case you want to watch TV. The reception staff was very nice and helpful, they gave us directions with places to see and great restaurants to eat. They were very kind. Breakfast was ok, with meat, cheese, cereals, youghurt, more types of bread and pastries , with many other choices. For the price we paid it was excellent. We had wi fi internet in the reception area which is a good thing but not great. The first day we arrived the heating wasn't turned on so it was really cold in the room( we stayed in costa del sol in 30 oct- 4 nov). An important thing to know is that they don't have the central heating on so we were able to heat the room only with the air conditioning unit. This happened during our entire stay. We got used to it but in the first day was really cold. In the bathroom also was cold since there is no air conditioning unit there! In the lobby from the rooms to the reception was no heating also. In the breakfast area there was also quite cold, there is no chance you can go eat wearing only a t-shirt. There is no wi fi in the rooms, only in the lobby area where there is also a desktop calculator with free internet. There was no line for that.
This is an extremely good value for money hotel – it is situated very near to the Marquise metro station and is overall in a central position. Although I observed one “lady of the night” nearby, the area did not seem unsafe at all. Our room was small but clean and comfortable, with a fridge. The bathroom was modern and had been renovated. The reception staff is very friendly and helpful. There was free WiFi in the lounge area. The breakfast was a generous continental, as well as a small selection of hot food. The hotel which occupies a ground floor and two additional floors has no elevator, which can be a problem with heavy luggage. The shower was somewhat difficult to get into – it is built over a “hip” bath, with a glass enclosure. However, the opening is a bit narrow.
We had a really nice time at Costa Do Sol, the staff is very kind and friendly, especially Alexandre, barman and night keeper, great man! Rooms are cosy and clean, the included breakfast is good quality and varied. The facility overall is more than worth the price. Only thing to take care of is that not all rooms have a good internet coverage.
