We stayed in this hotel for a week and loved it. It's very clean and quiet. We had a room with nice city view. The hotel is not close to the river but within a walking distance, approx. 20 mins walk or 4 EUR by Uber. Metro station Carolina Michaelis is about 150 metres from the hotel. We arrived in the middle of the night as the plane was delayed but the lady in the reception quickly checked us in and explained everything. Breakfast was not included in our room and it cost additionally 7 EUR. There are also other breakfast options in nearby cafes. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Vitor who booked a Douro tour for us. We enjoyed our stay a lot and would recommend it.
If you think of what you need for a hotel in a city, Boavista has it. We rented a car and although street parking is expensive, we were quickly told of the garage just up the road which can house your vehicle for 8 Euros a day, the hotel has a key and a good arrangement - car sorted! The room was lovely - clean, modern, TV, WiFi, comfy bed, great air conditioning, fantastic shower and brilliantly located right opposite the terrace (a real boon for us smokey sinners!). It was snug, but fitted us, a large suitcase, two smaller ones and all the usual stuff one acquires. It also had loads of power points, another bonus. No tea or coffee facilities, but the 24hr reception service would make you one if you really needed it. Close by were some lovely restaurants. We were recommended to Michaels 2 just down the hill, and to Universal close by it which were both Portuguese cuisine and very popular with local folk - we could see why. For 3 courses, wine, coffee and drinks for 2 people - 28 Euros! There's a bar next door which was good enough to give me a carrier bag of ice with my two takeaway soft drinks; a Mini Preco supermarket about 100yds away (which does astounding grapes) and even a pharmacy just up the road a bit. It's not in the super touristy area of the city but getting to most places by Uber was less than 4 Euros. Breakfast was expansive and very comfortable and everyone was just so nice and friendly for the whole of our 4 night stay. One thing to watch, especially if you have children: the road it's on gets very busy in rush hours and the concept of a speed limit is lost on many drivers, so be careful. All in all, a fantastic place which I heartily recommend. We hope to return in the not too distant future.
Cosy guesthouse with tastefully decorated room, a bit small but adequate with a tv, modern new furniture and bathroom. Our room was super clean and cleaned daily, the bed was comfortable and there was a window with view to the street. The staff was very polite and helpful, they answered all our questions, made good suggestions and helped us with everything we needed and made us feel more than welcome. The location is very convenient near a metro station and a 15 minute walk to the city center with mini market coffee shops and nice restaurants nearby. It is a nice quiet neighbourhood. Wi-fi signal was not so strong at times but we managed. It has a lovely terrace for breakfast in the summer but we did not try it as the breakfast area was under renovation. We had a lovely time in Porto and will definitely stay in Boavista Guesthouse next time too.
Friendly, English-speaking and efficient reception; nice breakfast; well-equipped rooms; fine location. The only minus I would add is probably the poor isolation between rooms but this was not a major problem during my stay. Just make sure you have ear plugs with you.
Guest house clean. Helpful staff speaking Portuguese, English, French. Bright and warm. Breakfast with local products. Quick access to subway stations Carolina Michaelis (5-7min.) And Lapa 10 (min.). Wifi coverage in rooms.
We chose Boavista guest house largely on price but were very happy with the choice. The guest house is a little out of town (a fast 15 minutes downhill, a little longer on the climb back up!) but that is to a degree an advantage - certainly on the Saturday night we stayed downtown itself was incredibly crowded with noise into the early hours - although there was some noise at Boavista overall it was much quieter. For those not keen on walking the metro is close (and affords a direct link to the airport, as well as downtown). The staff were welcoming and friendly and provided an excellent breakfast. The room was adequately sized for us (remember this is a guest house, not a hotel!) and everything was clean.
I enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean, comfortable and a short walk from the Metro. I was able to receive wifi in the room. When I went on a day trip, they provided the best early breakfast they could. They were extremely helpful with advice and helped me figure out how to change my train reservation. Would stay again if I return to Porto.
Found this hotel on booking.com as it was judged 8+ by other travellers! And they are right! Basic reception/breakfast Area but rooms are just renovated and have all you need, especially an amazing shower with actual decent water pressure! Don't see that Very Often in hotels! Staff is friendly and speak good english! Location is about 10 mins walk from the old town. Took a trip to lisboa aswell but could definately not beat porto, what a stunning city! All together a good hotel to stay with a lower budget with excellent rooms!
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Also they speak English which is very important! The breakfast could be richier but we had the best croisssant we ever aet!The bed is very comfortable, the room very clean and metro station is near!
I was here for a 3-day break to take some photos and meet an acquaintance. As someone who loves walking - with and without a camera - around cities, I think that the location was perfect. Around you is real life, not bars devoted to charter tour groups. There are several local restaurants right nearby that give you a taste of what residents of Porto eat for lunch as they work and for dinner as they meet friends and family. And you are only a short 15 minute walk (or metro ride) to the center of the historic town, and a tiny bit more to the riverside. My room was small, inexpensive, and clean, had a really comfortable bed, and had all the amenities that were advertised. The people working at the front desk and elsewhere were friendly and informative. You could always buy a beer at local bar prices when you came home at night. And the metro goes right to the airport. Absolutely recommended.
