This is a budget hotel. Wifi is for 30 mins and one use only. No milk for coffee. Paper thin walls, could hear neighbours talking. Clean and basic. There are many other hotels in the area that provide a better experience. It is easy walk to restaurants and shops Staff pleasant but reception only open office hours.
The apartments were well presented and very comfortable for an overnight stay. It's a shame they are building apartments in front as I hope they don't obstruct the beautiful view :( Beds were quite comfortable and rooms well presented. Bathrooms good but bit of a shame there weren't any shower caps on the vanity. Please add those :) I agree with people who do say the hotel could use some fresh paint but could imagine how long it would take!! Wifi is on the expensive side so just used my own data. All in all a comfortable nights stay and a close walk to the marina, supermarket & restaurants.
We stayed 2 nights during winter and had stayed here before. The room was as expected and clean. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Great location with only a short walk to the marina and quiet at night.
I have just spent the last 3 nights in a one bedroom apartment with a friend we asked for single beds which seemed no problem. We were greeted warmly by the ladies on reception and all was great they were very friendly and helpful. Got our room all good spacious but I wouldn't call it exceptionally clean there were peanuts under the TV that hadn't been cleaned up. Our biggest issue was the beds we did get seperate beds..great they were the hardest mattresses I've ever had to sleep on while travelling but the best bit was how our beds were made. One bed was made with the double/queen blanket doubled over and the sheets didn't even cover the whole bed!! The second bed had the quilt/doona doubled over! Pretty slack. I have stayed here previously with my husband and we had a great stay but that was a couple of years ago so I'm in no rush to return even though it is a convenient location and rooms a good size we were disappointed and I was sorry I had suggested this resort for our trip away.
After a 7 hr car trip, we were greeted by a lovely receptionist named sapphire, she made checking in run very smoothly. We went to our apartment and actually thought we were in someone else's room. As there were towels over chairs, dishes in sink, juice on table etc so we quickly left the room and went back to reception to be given another room. ( housekeeping hadn't cleaned the room prior to last guest ) On going back in the lift to go to the 2nd apartment, we walked in and we were hit with a vomit smell. A very strong vomit smell. So off we go to reception again and we get given our 3rd apartment. The gent came with us to make sure all was ok. By this stage we just wanted a room. We were offered a late check out, but that wasn't applicable to us as we had to leave early next morning. We also got unlimited wifi at no charge. We walked in it had been cleaned and didn't smell of vomit. Yay.... But after settling ourselves in we really noticed that housekeeping need a really good talking to by management. The toilet was absolutely filthy. I don't think a toilet brush has touched the toilet in an extremely long time. We got our plates out of cupboard to eat our food off and they were not 100% clean. Then we get our drinking glasses out and that was it.... they were filthy unwashed just put back in cupboard. The carpet had food squished into it. Thankfully we were only there for one night, we would of checked out if we weren't. The morning of check out hubby went down with the dirty glasses to show reception and due to our bad experience we were offered another night for free but we declined as it wasn't suitable. A full refund was given. We could not fault the reception staff throughout this. They were so polite and I feel slightly embarrassed that rooms were presented that way.
The Oaks Lure does offer good family value apartment style accommodation. Families need to take care when selecting accommodation in the Nelson Bay area. There are many overstated and over priced accommodation options that are not superior to and in some cases no where near as nicely appointed accommodation (and parking) as the Oaks Lure. I am a big fan of the apartments layout and size, and under ground secure private parking.
Surprised to read a couple of negative reviews on here re the reception, compared to our experience. We received a courtesy call to confirm our check in intention and time; the girl on the desk was very efficient, polite and helpful. The ample security parking was very good, a fast lift to our floor (where we had minor issues finding our room), a very clean room, adequately appointed for the overnight business stay. Probably the only things that were an issue was that all the power was turned off, we had to go under the desk to turn the fridge and TV on (the fridge never did seem to get cold) and we are not guaranteed that our electronic door was locking as we left, unless it was activated by the second door on the split apartment. The adjoining room was not occupied, so no worries on this trip. Room cleanliness was as previously mentioned very good. Yes I would recommend, and I would return.
We had three nights in a bayview room. We go to Nelson/Shoal Bay often, sometimes with the caravan and sometimes at the Landmark. We were very impressed with the functionality of the apartment. It was clean and well furnished and had good storage space. The staff were welcoming and responsive and the property is nicely situated with a short walk to shops, restaurants, cinema and marina. We were very comfortable and will return.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Room well equipped. Great bed. Very short walk to supermarket and shops. Ten minute walk to the bay and tourist area. National Parks with very scenic walks of various lengths are short drive away. Saw dolphins!
We stayed here in January not long after new year. we booked a 2 bedroom apartment. I know that time of year is expensive but spending almost $1000 for 2 nights was definitely not worth the price. We consisted of 3 adults and a child. The size of the apartment was good, the aircon was leaking and the carpet was wet and the living area smelled like mould. the courtyard was in terrible condition, not somewhere I would want to sit for a drink. Location was decent, not far from Woolworths or the water. a lot of places to eat.
