Almonta Apartments on the Waterfront (B)
This apartment is on the entire lower level of a two apartment block. It is on the waterfront adjacent the picturesque Oyster Walk coastal walking trail and short walks to the very popular Santi's Restaurant (100 metres) and the Oyster HQ Restaurant (5 minutes).
A note for parents - to maintain the spectacular bay views, this property frontage is not fenced and care is needed with young children and infants.
This apartment presents as a modern, contemporary space with the latest in furnishings, decor and entertainment devices including four TV's (one in each of the three bedrooms) with a total of three NETFLIX licences. The kitchen is fitted out with stacks of cupboard space plus a very large pantry. There is a full size oven, hot plates, fridge-freezer, hot plates, microwave, dishwasher and coffee pod machine plus all of the other electrical appliances and utensils you would expect in a modern home.
From the three large windows facing the water you will have possibly the best views of Coffin Bay - judge for yourself and check out the images. The very popular Oyster Walk - a beautiful coastal walking trail is less than 20 metres from the front door. Guests have access to the private jetty immediately opposite to cast a line or tie up a boat, canoe or kayak.
Apartment B is a completely independent ground floor 3 bedroom apartment of 150 square metres living area plus 35 square metres of covered verandah for outdoor living, BBQ and garden area. We ask that you respect the privacy of the tenants on the upper level (apartment A) and their private living area at the rear. You are afforded total privacy and will not be interrupted, however if a matter is urgent, your host can be contacted on the phone numbers in the compendium.
Your compendium is also a great source of information about what Coffin Bay and surrounds has to offer. Hopefully you will find all appliances and entertainment devices easy to operate, however, if you are not a bloke and not too proud to read the instructions, they are provided in a dedicated folder.
Eating out in Coffin Bay Just a 5 minute walk down the Esplanade from the apartment is the very popular Oyster HQ restaurant. Here you can indulge in a glass of vino, lounge on a large luxurious deck and gorge on delicious local oysters and fresh seafood. This is a smart yet wonderfully down-to-earth eatery offering a relaxed coastal dining experience enhanced by a spectacular seafood menu and beautiful views.
For non seafood lovers, this restaurant offers a range of alternative dishes. Not to be missed! The Coffin Bay Yacht Club is situated directly on the foreshore and only a 10 minute walk along the beautiful Oyster Walk. As a community club it is run by an enthusiast band of volunteers who provide great value meals. The club is open for meals on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights. Sailing season runs from October each year through until Easter with sailing every Sunday and visiting sailors are welcome.
The Coffin Bay Sports Club is nestled at the foot of the sandhills, - just a short three minute drive. The sporting club features a 9 hole golf course with greens, a synthetic bowling green and pool tables. The clubrooms provide a picturesque outlook, great atmosphere to meet and chat with the locals over a drink. The club provides dinner on Saturday evenings from 6.00pm - 8.00pm. Coffin Bay also has a hotel on Jubilee Drive, also just a three minute drive away.
Provisions in Coffin Bay - Fuel, groceries, fishing tackle and eat in or take away food from the Beachcomber on the Esplanade (5 minute walk). There is a pharmacy and Post Office around the corner from the Beachcomber and the town's IGA supermarket and liquor store are well stocked and competitively priced and just a further 1 Km along the Esplanade (10 minute walk).
The town limits of the Coffin Bay township are no more than a 30 minute walk, however, we suggest that having a car in Coffin Bay will allow you to explore beyond the town limits and experience the beautiful parks and bays which are a major part of the Coffin Bay experience. If you fly - drive, there are two airlines that service Port Lincoln from Adelaide (QantasLink and REX). It is then a 40 minute drive to Coffin Bay and hire cars are available at the airport. We suggest you book your car in advance.
Things to do here: The Coffin Bay National Park Entrance (passes must be booked on-line) is just 5 minutes drive from your apartment where you will see unspoilt coastal scenery, towering dunes and stunning white beaches, this park is the perfect place to create your own adventure. Visit Golden Island and Almonta Beach and be welcomed by turquoise water and some of the whitest sandy beaches on Eyre Peninsula. The more adventurous can tackle the challenging 4WD tracks to Gunyah Beach or further afield to Sensation Beach and Point Sir Isaac.
The fishing in and around Coffin Bay is excellent and you don't need a boat. The Coffin Bay town wharf and Mt Dutton Bay jetty are excellent for salmon trout, whiting, tommy ruff, garfish, flathead, mullet and squid. If you like surf fishing, then salmon, mullet, tommy ruff and gummy shark are frequently caught off Almonta Beach (conventional drive) and Gunyah Beach (4WD) in the Coffin Bay National Park. Salmon trout, whiting, mullet, tommy ruff, garfish, flathead and squid are commonly caught off the many rock ledges in and around Coffin Bay. This includes fishing along the channel and "The Ledge". If you bring a boat then salmon trout, whiting, garfish, tommy ruff, flathead, trivially, snapper, nanagi, stingray, yellowtail kingfish, gummy shark, squid, sand crabs are the target of boaties. If you bring a "large" boat, then tuna, kingfish, samson fish can be targeted during the months of January through to May, around Greenly Island, Rocky Island and the Hummocks.
If you enjoy the flora and fauna of coastal habit you will be delighted with what Coffin Bay and surrounds has to offer. You won’t have to walk too far to find the many kangaroos and emus which literally wander the streets. This coastal town is surrounded by parks with numerous sea birds and wrens. From your apartment you can easily see an osprey nest fashioned from twigs on the corner of the oyster farm. Seals and dolphins often enter the bay and it is common for dolphins to come within metres of the foreshore in front of your apartment. Coffin Bay has a proliferation of native flowers, including the native hibiscus and spider orchids. It is also common to see goannas and many other beautiful reptiles in the town and the adjacent parks.
