My husband and I had our wedding here on the 1st September 2017. We had the most incredible perfect day. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and so helpful from day one of organising to the big day itself. The location is beautiful and we were really lucky to have such a gorgeous sunny day. The food was sensational and our night stay and breakfast the following morning was also to the highest of standard. We cannot fault anything about it all. Thank you to everybody at the Thistle x
Had Groupon voucher for mussels lunch & was apprehensive because of negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel needs updating & there was only one table occupied & no one there to greet us when we first came in although 2 more tables arrived later for afternoon tea ( which looked great) but when our waiter arrived he was attentive & helpful & the mussels, frites, bread & wine were delicious. The sun shone for the first time all week & the views were amazing. The parking was free as well
Recently stayed at this hotel and given how many times ive stayed away this year, I can never really be bothered to write reviews, however……this time I felt compelled too given how fantastic the staff are. From Checking in all the staff I encountered were fabulous. I also bumped into the General Manager whilst he was doing bedroom checks and it clear to see his passion and love for the hotel has rubbed off on the staff. Good work and keep it up
Location is obviously this hotel's strong point, however also offers decent rooms and good service too! We dined in the restaurant and enjoyed good food, plenty of selection! We hope to be back again soon!
I wrote a review about this hotel back in August. All the promises about bringing my concerns regarding the state of the rooms after cleaning, to the attention of the senior staff, clearly has not been done, or, not been taken on board. Our room was dreadful and nothing seems yo have been changed over, 2 months later. The hotel is tired and dated, the room we had, which was not cheap, smelt very strongly of damp as soon as we opened the door, and, that, we were told, was going to be looked into immediately and sorted out, clearly, it was not. I would not recommend this hotel and will certainly not stay there again.
We enjoyed our stay here on a Saturday night. Hotel is dated but generally clean, the bed was comfortable. Lovely view over the harbour. Breakfast was good and had the usual English/continental offerings. Had a drink in the bar which was fine, some outside seating available. Staff all very polite. Very damp in the corridors by the bed room but the smell didn't go through to the bed room. Would recommend and probably return - good location.
I actually can not believe the cost of this hotel for what you get. I was expecting much much better. If they halved the price it would have still been expensive for what you get, and have to pay to park the car. If you want to eat in the "resturant" you will need a bank loan... Dated, tired old hotel. My non-smoking room smelled of stale smoke. Room very bland, with a tired old thread bare carpet and old looking scratched furnishings. Bathroom suite also very tired. Would never stay here again. Drab dingey hotel with a horrific price! Go to a premier inn instead.
My wife and I have just recently visited The Thistle for a Groupon meal deal. Mussels, frites and wine for 2 Lovely attentive staff, one girl was new ( first day ) very professional and polite. Seated at a window seat, explained our deal. We were then given a free starter, very good. Then had our meal deal, Not good. Just 1 bowl of mussels and 1 bowl of chips and 2 slices of hard bread. The meal would have been just a starter for 1 and not a main for 2,was expecting at least a bowl of mussels each with chips. But at least we had a bottle of wine :) So overall not greatly impressed. Only had a meal,so cannot comment on rooms or anything else
We stayed here for the weekend, it was fair for the price, a bit dated but the location can't be faulted, We decided against paying the high price for breakfast as you can get a very nice breakfast down the road for half the price! Overall a good stay, but the hotel could certainly do with a bit of a refurb!!
WE were on the ground floor facing the harbour. The room was spacious and comfortable, Non of the rooms have air conditioning so on hot days you just open the window. No problem. Breakfast was very good indeed served in the restaurant overlooking the bay. The staff were very good indeed. The reception staff were very helpful. There parking out the back which you have to pay for.
