Beautiful old hotel in a great location, lovely fish restaurant nearby and craft beer bar. 15 minute walk to Leaning tower and to the train station. Full of character and old school charm and a great service from the owner who’s family have owned the hotel for years. Great little info sheet about the hotels history also.
To be frank, if ultra modern facilities and bathrooms with soundless plumbing are your thing...this is not the Hotel for you!. If however you wish to discover the still remaining charm of bygone Italy, with views of the River Arno to die for, and elegant and gentle service, book now.The hotel is undergoing a process of restoration, and I hope it will be with a gentle touch. This property has soul and character, delightful staff and a fantastic location near the vibrant University area. Rooms are large and airy and a river view is a must. Breakfast is adequate, but again staff make the difference. It is deeply refreshing to find such charm!
Stayed for 1 night, booked an Economy room as we knew we would hardly be in the room and we guessed by ‘Economy’ this would be small and basic. Upon booking with Travel Republic I booked a double economy room, however we were allocated a twin and advised that’s what we booked. The hotel blamed the booking agent, the booking agent blamed the hotel and we were told ‘sorry, this is what we were told you had requested and we are full’. If you specifically want a double or a twin and nothing is stated on your booking I would contact the hotel in advance to request this. The economy room was not simply the ‘small and basic’ we expected. We were allocated a good size room, 329, but it was in the worst state I have ever seen a hotel room. Furniture was falling apart, the bathroom was filthy and not cleaned properly, limescale everywhere, hairs on the floor and the electric socket next to the sink had a gap between the tiles... I even opened a drawer to find a used tissue left behind! Tiles on the bathroom floor were cracked and lifting, I tripped over one and it came up completely, very dangerous! This room should not have been allocated to anyone it was in such a bad state! We complained to Reception with our photo evidence and were again advised the hotel was full, but he could allocate us a different room and all he had was an ‘upgrade’ to a classic room. There was no apology and the guy gave the impression he was doing us a favour by upgrading us. Luckily the second room was in much better condition! Great location, minutes from bars and restaurants and 10 mins walk to Pisa station and the Leaning Tower 10 mins walk in the other direction. We did not try breakfast the next morning, the state of the first room put us off eating at the hotel.
I stayed here recently when travelling with a friend and we had a great time. The rooms were simple but had everything we needed. We had a room facing the front which had a great view of the river. It got a little noisy in the morning and evening but we were happy to have the view! Breakfast was simple, but plenty to eat and the staff were lovely. The building is beautiful, I see some other reviewers thought it was tired, but we loved the charm and history of the building, it almost felt like we had gone back in time! There are little improvements that could be made, such as the water temperature and regulation that I think they are working on but it didn't bother us once we knew to run it before using it. We would definitely stay again!
Stayed for 5 nights Old historical hotel with bags of charm and class If you want old style grand charm this is the place for you A roof terrace on the 4th floor to enjoy a drink Central to the leaning tower, which is 10 mins walk away, next door to the best ice cream in Pisa Enjoy a drink in the antique chairs in the reception area and check all the old photos out Rooms are large and clean but dated, however have plenty of charm Breakfast area is grand breakfast is adequate, can't fault the staff they work hard and are all helpful If you want modern don't stay, however if you want history stay here, for the price this is definitely value for money, I would recommend and stay again
In a good central position for the town, attractions and restaurants. Quite noisy due to being close to the University. We had one of their best rooms. Sadly in port condition the furnishings date from the Victoria era, The walls and ceiling in the bathroom were brown with flaking paint above the shower. The water was luke warm. Breakfast was good and the staff all very helpful.
We stayed for one night in Pisa at the Royal Victoria Hotel. The hotel is an old style hotel and has a lot of character, the building is very grand in style and the staff are very friendly. However, even being a 3 star, there are some things you’d like to see improvements on. I.e. the shower needed to be run for almost 10mins to get hot water and the breakfast was not all that great (next time we would get breakfast locally). However, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable enough for a 3 star hotel and the location is great!
First impressions, the hotel is a little dated and has seen better years. On reflection I was wrong to judge this book by its cover. Yes it is a little tired and jaded, yes it hasn’t the glitz and glam of a modern chain, however, from the moment you become engaged with the team who run this hotel, you begin to fall in love with its ‘quirkiness’. The team are passionate about the hotel and their quality service, their friendly and professional manner and desire to do whatever it takes to please won me over hands down. They, if you are bothered to listen, are knowledgable of the history of the hotel and are demonstrably proud to work in this hotel, Their love of its history and reluctance to damage the fabric of the building to physically upgrade, becomes your objective also and you become an advocate of the place. Yes it’s a little kitch, yes nothing matches and yes, sometimes it looks a little like grandmas parlour, but overall, the place is exceptionally clean, the rooms are big, the water is hot and the breakfast is hearty and served with a smile. Look through some of the odd dried flower arrangements and old pipe work and what you will see is a once beautiful hotel run by beautiful people. I for one would thoroughly recommend. And don’t forget to ask to be taken up to the roof top terrace where you will see the best views of the city along the river. Top tip. Ask for an inner room as those facing the road can be a little noisy, last thing at night and first thing in the morning.
The hotel have an ideal location, near the center, only 10 minutes from the station and a short walk to the tower. The staff was very helpful. Ok, the hotel needs some renovation but the atmosphere was outstanding. Will absolutely come back, and recomend it to my friends.
The location is very convenient - 10 minutes to walk from the train station and 10 minutes to the square with the tower. The room was very spacious with a high ceiling - so lots of air. The whole place is very interesting - Vintage like. I would call it "couleur locale". The bathroom has seen better times but it was clean. The corridors, foyer and breakfast room were very interesting to look at. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. No complaints. We would definitely stay there again if we come back to Pisa.
