Quite brilliant hotel ... like stepping back into the past. Huge rooms, lovely roof-top terrace, great aperitifs in the lobby and a splendid breakfast. I can imagine that some may cavil at the state of the plumbing which was a little idiosyncractic - but not being American, this did not bother us at all. Absolutely lovely atmosphere, very clean, really helpful staff and a great location. Yes a little noisy on the Saturday night because of the student nightlife right outside - but despite this the river view is well worth it. Good location for a 15 minute walk to the eponymous Tower. Overall - a real gem ... and I hope that any renovations don't lose the character and style of the hotel.
staff very helpful and friendly changed rooms after a/c broke down went from a poor room to a good room. Very quaint décor but needs updating, breakfast was nice staff very efficient. Roof terrace very nice in the evenings although no view was still lovely to sit out after walking in the heat all day. Small convenience store just outside for chilled wine and beer and soft drinks ,Pisa is a good base for exploring Tuscany tower and church nice but thought town itself a bit scruffy as you get towards station but as I say great location for a central base.
Great experience in a family run very traditional hotel. Fantastic location overlooking the river equidistant between the central train station and the leaning tower. Very antiquated but suits the building and situation, good breakfast - we kind of expected Ernest Hemingway or the cast of a Merchant & Ivory film to round the corner and any moment. River views rooms well worth it - although on Saturday nights can be noisy with the bustling bar street scene nearby. They welcomed our kids and there is a lift.
We stayed in the hotel for a long weekend. Easy trip from airport in a taxi for €12 and easy walk to the railway station. The hotel itself is very quaint and has some nice touches. Aperitifs served in the evening are great value at €4 enjoyed either in the foyer or the roof terrace. Staff were super, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also very good if limited. Our roof was less successful. Very noisy from other residents returning to their rooms but also from the river front and alley on the side of the hotel. Friday and Saturday were particularly bad. The matters on the bed was 'W' shaped with a hummock in between two well worn indentations. The rest of the room was tired and the shower room small with a temperamental cubicle. The odd thing is we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again. Might seek a different room though.
Lovely historic hotel very spacious airy rooms Wide range of choice for breakfast but can be busy as waitresses make all the coffee fresh which is worth the wait. All looks a bit passed its best but that adds to the charm .The bars next door can be a bit noisy but not too bad
What a delightful place – ideally situated on the banks of the River Arno, walking distance to all places of interest. High ceilings, polished stone floors, spacious. Perhaps crumbling here and there but historic (Charles Dickens and Alexandre Dumas stayed here), scrupulously clean and comfortable: our room had a large ensuite bathroom/ shower (we do enjoy a hot, deep bath to relieve feet tired from walking), plenty of new, fluffy towels. Breakfast included freshly baked fruit tarts, homemade focaccia, fresh fruit, cooked meats; staff exceptionally obliging. Very much enjoyed our stay; we will return. Highly recommended.
After my Ryanair flight was cancelled, me and my new friends tried to go back to Pisa to stay overnight and one of my friends found this hotel and it looks quite posh but surprisingly affordable! A very good vintage ambience hotel with excellent and friendly staff. I asked for a Tuscany plug to charge my mobile phone and he lent one to me. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, bathroom was huge (with bath-tub) and not to mention good continental breakfast during the day. It's also not too far away from Pisa train station and also Leaning Tower of Pisa. Extremely recommended if you want to stay in Pisa!
Beautiful hotel. Lots of history. The rooms are quite dated however I love the charm of the place. If you are looking for great view with lots of history then you've found it. People will complain by their own premier inn standards but I'd rather have the real historic rustic Tuscan feel any day.
We stayed in the royal Victoria hotel Pisa for two nights last week. Absolutely great location beside the Arno. 10 minute walk (on the flat) to the train station and to the leaning tower. The taxi from the airport cost €10. We were in room 202. It is a suite overlooking the Arno and was amazing in a quirky way. The hotel must have been amazing in the day, which was a while ago. The bed was spotless but there was a general air of crumbliness. The staff were really helpful, the roof terrace was peaceful. You order drinks at reception (all €4) and they are brought to either the terrace or whatever area you are in. Breakfast is included and is simple but adequate ( bread, cheese, ham, cakes, juice, tea etc). I have to mention 2 aspects which I had a problem with... the noise at night was unbelievable, it went on until 3-4am. I had read all of the previous posts but liked the idea of the hotel so much I booked anyway. The bathroom was immaculate but the shower wasn't the best. I completely understand this hotel has heritage issues and plumbing is one. That is why I have given it 3 stars. Great wifi and it's free. They seem to be doing massive work on a new wing. This hotel is not for everyone, we loved it for its atmosphere, laid back charm and individuality....this has to count in an age of homogeneity. I have to say we would stay here again.... if you want a shiny cube don't stay here.
This hotel reminds me of the old Italian hotels I stayed in during visits to Italy in the 1980's. So it was charming and wonderfully helpful staff who speak many languages. It was a good value and giant windows to open and look over the river. Alas, in the evenings the college students swarm to the area for late night talking and drinking, early morning garbage clean-up and bottle recycling made for a restless night. I imagine hotel rooms at the back would make this nice (or go when school kids not around). Breakfast was excellent and all of the usual European fair - something for everyone.
