Well worth a stay if you love history and tradition, once you walk through the door you take a step back in time. Overlooking the river and a 10 minute walk to the Leaning Tower of Pisa it is an ideal location. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was adequate for starting off the day. The bathroom and electrics need an upgrade but we thought it was sufficient for a one night stop over
When you enter the hotel, you enter history itself. The interior, decoration and the spirit all perfectly intact. I could go on an write a whole book about this place but, I am not going to. Just stay there and witness its grand for yourself! On April 22, 2013 The Municipality of Pisa named a square after the hotel's founder, Pasquale Piegaia. The Piegaja family still owns and manages the hotel today — the fifth generation of the family.
We stayed one night in this hotel as part of a longer trip through Italy and loved it - the hotel is just beautiful, with incredible architecture and decor. The staff are very helpful and friendly and didn't mind my not-used-since-school Italian!
this hotel is absolutely beautiful!! just like a typical Italian home/hotel should be! felt like home as soon as we arrived and everything was perfect while we were there! not a complaint at all! staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was very nice! room was super cute with everything you would need minus a fridge! roof terrace is very pretty and romantic, hotel location is perfect as you are right in the middle of pisa with all shops bars and restaurants on your door step and easy to commute to and from train station! would highly recommend.
I'm so pleased that we chose this hotel in all its faded glory rather than a super modern, generic, instantly forgettable chain. It will provide us with so many special memories. If you love history & are interested in times long gone by then you can't fail to appreciate this beautiful place. Yes, there are areas which need updating & renovation but our enormous high ceilinged room, with windows looking on to the River Arno, was scrupulously clean. The white bed linen was good quality & the large pieces of walnut? furniture were from a bygone era & would have been extremely classy in their heyday. The bathroom has a luxurious deep bath & the water was piping hot. You can wash your hair easily with the overhead shower attachment & there is an efficient hairdrier. If you do stay here don't take the lift every time, but use the grand old staircase & see the large public rooms on each floor. You'll also see the narrower staircases that the staff would have once used. Breakfast is adequate with a variety of fresh rolls, croissants, ham & cheese & a healthy fruit salad of melon & peaches amongst other fruits. There are cereals & yoghurt also. A few points, which were minor to us but may be a disadvantage to others, is the lack of a fridge or safe in the room. Reception do offer a safe facility for your valuables if you ask. Also, we had a fan in our room but it would have been lovely to have air conditioning. Having a room with a river view at the front can mean it is a little noisy at night from the nearby bars but it is just young people having a good time & didn't bother us as we sleep like logs. Just love that river view! We are looking forward to enjoying a drink on the very pretty roof terrace this evening. It is furnished with sofas, chairs & tables in amongst attractive planting. Would definitely stay here again.
Bathroom was so filthy we requested to move rooms. Once moved to another room, which was in a similar state and the bed was completely broken and un-usable we decided to leave. Still waiting on a refund and had to pay out for a last minute hotel elsewhere in the city. Rooms are VERY dated.
Stayed here for one night, but this hotel was great! A good size twin room for two guys travelling by car through Europe. The receptionists were great, breakfast was great, everything was great. Absolutely zero complaints. Would stay again.
We'd been told this was the best hotel in central Pisa. If it is, the others must be woeful. At the hottest time of the year, the air conditioning was a joke, so we had to have the windows open. Unfortunately, the thing to do in Pisa if you are under 40 is party on the banks of the river - that is, right under the window of our room - until 4am. I doubt we got 3 hours sleep any night we were there. The staff were nice enough and the location was good, but the decor was tired, the bathrooms dirty, the carpets worn. The whole thing had a feel of a B&B in Blackpool from the 1950s - just all rather faded.
WOW! What a hotel! The room was ENOURMOUS and elegant. The bathroom was also enormous and even had a bathtub (rare for most hotels)! The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great. Lots of choice and everything I had was delicious! The location is great, it is right on the river with great views, and a short walk to the leaning tower. Parking was not included with the price which was a shame. Certainly one of the most memorable hotels I’ve stayed in. Only one real complaint, our room had no air conditioning and in the 40 degree Celsius heat, it was a bit much for us, although there was a big fan in the room.
Please do not be fooled by the glossy video for this hotel. It is not that up to date. Hotel staff was not friendly, not especially helpful. The room was good sized but the bathroom was terrible, not especially clean and extremly outdated with poor lighting. I found a paper stuffed under the TV that said they wanted input on things they could do to make the building better. As it is so old and parts of different buildings it will take large amounts of money to retrofit the plumbing and electrical. As an added agrevation, on checkout we were told we needed to pay in Euros, not mentioned on the website, in the Rick Steves book or anywhere else. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else but here. I am writing to Rick Steves company also to warn of the 'cash only' requirement.
