This hotel is in a great location, close to the train station (5 minutes walk) and is situated by the river. The rates were quite cheap to book online too. It's an old fashioned hotel which probably has not been upgraded/undergone refurbishment for more than 20 years. Apparently this appeals to some people. However, there was no air-conditioning (they provide a fan) and no power mains to charge your devices. The internet connection is also quite slow. Our main issue was the bathroom. The shower is pieced together with the bath tub and doesn't drain probably. So if you have a shower longer than 3 minutes you will be standing in a puddle of water. Takes about 20 minutes to drain or so. We only stayed overnight, so it wasn't so bad. But won't be staying again in the future if we come back to Pisa at all.
The interior of the hotel has an old style retro charm; the beds are reasonably comfortable and clean, and the staff when we checked in were very friendly. However, having left our rental car in the crowded garage for 20 euro, along with the key so that a parking attendant could move the car around, I found it in the morning to have acquired a series of very obvious scratches that matched exactly the damaged concrete garage entrance. When I mentioned this to the manager, he said he trusted the parking attendant (who said nothing happened, though the car had been moved!) fully; he also said that I should nonetheless send him a letter that would allow him to take this up with his insurance company. Curiously, i also found a screwdriver in the passenger's seat; perhaps they had intended to replace the panel themselves? In any case, they failed to respond to the letter I subsequently sent twice. The scratch repair cost 595 euro (charged by the rental car company). I hate to leave a negative review, but dishonesty from even a single staff member ruins the hotel for all the competent and considerate staff members. Get it together!
Great for a one-night stopover as in a fantastic position. Wonderful history to the hotel, lovely helpful staff and our room was clean with a great view of the Arno. The bathroom needed an update and the doors to the rooms are a bit dodgy but all in all a fun experience. Simple, free breakfast. Safe, enclosed parking as long as you don't mind navigating narrow alleyways to get there; a squeeze in our big car but we made it through.
Generally good hotel.nice staff.very antic and a a little restauration would be needed.room was clean and pleasant. Bathroom was rather small and the door was very old and bad izolating. The location is amazing.very accesibile. I would recommend for a shorter period.
We stayed here for one night before heading to Florence. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. If you are not precious about all modern conveniences and would like to spend a night in a hotel from the past - then book this. Everything is antique and lovely to see. Whilst I acknowledge that this hotel needs a lot of restoration etc. the service was excellent, breakfast was lovely and bedroom was spotless. We also paid extra to have a car park space in their garage-and noticed 3 chandeliers hanging there !! The location is perfect for visiting main sights in Pisa. Really enjoyed this hotel
The hotel is an excellent choice if you want to escape from bland corporate hotel chains and guests silently staring into Smart phone screens in public areas. The hotel has been in the same family since the middle of the 19th Century and has the atmosphere and ambience of something out of E.M. Forster's "Room with a View", or one of those charming colonial hotels in South Asia or the Malay peninsula. The hotel is situated on the Arno river front, adjacent to the bridge in a location that is both picturesque and convenient. The Leaning Tower is just 15 minutes walk, as is Pisa central train station via a pedestrianised street leading from the bridge to the train station. My room was simple and functional and the bed comfortable and firm (just how I like it). The hotel provides full cold breakfast buffet of hams, cheeses, and patisseries. And the extent of the buffet enabled me to skip lunch. It has a nice sun terrace with plenty of seating and each evening the hotel offers aperitifs, wine and nibbles for a set charge (Four Euros, I think). I recommend this hotel to anyone with a nostalgic longing. And respectfully suggest those whose idea of a vacation is high-speed broadband try elsewhere.
The hotel has real character with big rooms and an old world charm. Our room was good but the bathroom really needs renovating. It is not pleasant having a shower in a small room that feels uncomfortable to be in. The plumbing is also very noisy and did keep me awake. It is in a good location near both shops, bars, restaurants and the tower. The breakfast provided was good with a reasonable choice of cold food. It would be a really great pics to stay if they spend some money on the bathrooms.
The hotel was amazing! The furniture and the ornaments were great, the stairs were old and original, the windows were huge and the rooms amazed us all! The secret rooms and fancy toilets amused us and the balcony was good. The terrace was even better! Had a fabulous visit and loved everything about the hotel. Would love to visit pisa again! Just watch out for the immigrants and their pick-pocket skills!
This hotel is great for the price. Its in a good central location and is easy to find. It claims to be the oldest hotel in Italy and the rooms definitely are charming with old furniture and high ceilings. Breakfast was good too, it covered all of the usual things you get in a continental breakfast. Only flaw I had was we had no safe in our room and with the old doors/locks I didn't want to leave anything valuable lying around. All in I'd highly recommend this hotel.
This hotel has character. granted it does need money spent on it as they are currently revamping it, however, it already has atmoshere and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. It is spacious, large rooms in a Victorian style. The bathrooms are good and large. The hotel is central and ideal for tourists and taxis can be ordered and come within five minutes. - ten minutes drive from the airport. The staff are very helpful. Decoration generally needs attention and perhaps eventual air conditioning, though the building is cool, some windows don't open but fans are supplied. The view from the front of the hotel is the river and attractive form the large windows. All in all I hope the project is successful as we loved staying there.
