What a view. Relaxing. Don't forget to bring some sunscreen. Not sure if there's any public transportation to this area because its really out of the way from the city. Suggest rent a car to drive to this location.
I stayed here with my friends while we were visiting Taiwan. This is a huge hotel, with a lot of amenities. Great big pool and direct beach access via tunnel. Great huuuuge continental breakfast. Walking distance to a lot of restaurants. Staff does not speak English very well but they can help you anyway! They are just really helpful. Nice beach area too. A lot of excursion opportunities nearby with scenic views!
Definitely not new but the still well-maintened. It has a nice open-air swimming pool, underground access to a beach, next to an indoor water park (admission around usd8) and even a mini deer garden. It is just 10min away from the Kenting night market. As we don't have a car, this is extremely helpful. Breakfast has good selection but given the size of the resort and all the families, can be a bit overwhelming. Still recommend for those who want a family vacation.
Let me start by saying that our stay at Howard Beach was lovely. We really enjoyed Kenting. I wish I were the owner of this hotel... its potential is high but it's reality is pretty disappointing because of that potential. Structurally, it could be fabulous. It's big. The rooms are decent enough. The devil however is in the details. Firstly, we had lovely ocean view rooms. That said, when you are on the balcony you see a low structure in front of you that is loaded with "kitchen garbage". Old steam tables and equipment stacked haphazardly ruining the spectacular ocean view. There are water features all around the hotel. They are filled with green slime and much of the water is stagnant breeding grounds for mosquitos. Not elegant... gross. The overall hotel decor I termed African kitsch. Not classy, gaudy. Lights strung from ceilings, light up plastic statues, oh my. It would be a significant improvement if all this was removed. The food was passable. We only ate breakfast in the hotel. It was okay....although because the hotel is so big, the staff struggled to keep up with replenishing the buffet. The food quality and presentation was somewhere between a college cafeteria and a cheap buffet place. In reality, a couple of fried eggs, some toast and coffee is all I really need... so it was fine. 2 1/2 stars maybe. For example, Grapes, tomatoes, sliced oranges, grapefruit, and unripe guava is not a tropical location's 5 star fruit selection. The bar... ran out of Vodka on the second day of our 5 day stay. Extremely hard to communicate in English with the bartender. Point to the menu was the communication mode. The pool is nice. You must wear (buy) a shower cap which is annoying... and they close the pool every day between 12 and 1 for maintenance. Not that you can just get out of the pool....no, you have to leave the pool area entirely. That's crazy. Oh yeah, 12 lounge chairs were around the pool. For a hotel with 100's of rooms it is totally insufficient. Nicer lounge chairs are available in the shade but they are by the kiddie pool not the main pool. Ugly structures covered in horrible pictures surround the pool. Maybe they are catering rooms? Knock them down. The tunnel to the beach is convenient. The beach is okay... surprisingly pretty looking back at it from the water.... but oddly mediocre when you are on it. There is another side which is nicer to sit on with a great beach bar tied to the hotel next door. Spent virtually every sunset at that bar! Total high point. They advertise spa services in the room and at the concierge desk but it is independently owned and the concierge could not answer any questions about the spa services. Bottom Line... passable hotel that could be so much better. Not many better options in the area which is surprising.
We stayed a couple of nights at the Howard Resort, Kenting and found it to be OK. The rooms are spacious and well equipped but are rather tired, as is the décor throughout. The staff are helpful but it really does smack of a 'bus tours' hotel. The pool is a nice size and the area is well served with loungers. An under road tunnel takes you to a lovely little beach set in a quiet cove where there is a good, but expensive, beach bar attached to the adjacent hotel. Admittedly we were there 'out of season' which meant only the Buffet Restaurant was open. The food looked good but unfortunately too many of the burners under hot plates were not operational thus resulting in many of the 'hot' dishes being not so hot (lukewarm or cold) --- not so great for health and hygene!! This occurred both at breakfast and dinner. Also if looking to eat, it's a better idea to walk into Kenting Town and sample the wares of the little street side bars (VW Dormobiles made into bars, Wood fired pizza ovens in the back of pickup trucks ---- fantastic, tasty and cheap) Would we go back? ---- To Kenting --Yes, to the Howard --- I'm not too sure!!
Stayed for 1 night only (work related). My impression was this hotel knew better times and really needs a face lift. The rooms are very big (family), and internet works well. Disadventage is wifi is only in Room and one constantly has to log in at different channels when walking in hotel from one place to another. Carpet and curtains in room were not very clean and made a rather worn out impression. Bathroom worked well. Lunch and Breakfast facility was ample, with traditional Taiwanese and chinese options. Quality of food was not of highest level though. The hotel has a tunnelconnection to beach, but it was under construction and made a spooky impression to me. It leads to a tiny beach ( the sea really is stunning) and not to the main stretch of sand (though easily reachable). There is an indoor waterpark, but it made an out-of-date impression and frankly speaking seemed unsafe. Outside pool is big and closed for an hour at lunchtime. Airco in hotel is very cold and hard to change. When I was there business seemed rather slow, although still schoolholiday. I think most people choose neighboring Caesar Park hotel. The Location is at walking distance to famous night market of Kenting. Hotel offers a free shuttle to main street and busstop (golfcart) in case you do not want to walk in the heat.
huge resort not for someone looking a quaint place. Nice pool greatclocation next to beautiful beach perfect for families. Not good breakfast, a bit outdated facilities and far too cold the aircondition.
Hotel Price in Kenting are all expensive anyway. In this hotel you can easily reach night market ~ within walking distance. And it's not so noise as in Main Street. Nice swim pool outdoor and to beach is not too far as well ( special path within walking distance). Great choose when you come with family.
The place was built as a 5 star resort, currently several areas need massive updating and the whole complex should not have a 5 star rating anymore. The general facilities could probably get a 4 star rating in terms of size of the pool, proximity to the beach and tennis and basketball courts. However the buffet restaurant is not pretty and extremely chaotic, the general look and feel of all spaces is tired and old and the access to the beach requires quite a bit of walking, stairs and it is not a private beach. There are no restrooms at the beach, no towel service and beach umbrellas and lounge chairs need to be rented in cash. Food is available at the next beach but do not dream of a waiter bringing you anything fancy while laying in the sun, this is not that kind of place! Ii is a great place for families with children and therefore the hotel is loud especially the buffet restaurant and pool area. My room had crayon smudges and stains both on the walls and floor. Fridge did not work and the wardrobe did not have a door, in general it looked like a 2 star hostel room with the only addition of some toiletries. If the room was in the $50-65 range it would have been ok but anything above that I will suggest to go elsewhere unless you need the pool.
I decided to do a round the island trip of Taiwan when I found a $400 round trip ticket from SF to Taipei. I got a rental car and off I went. As a Marriott loyalist my first night was in Taipei and that is where Marriott properties end in Taiwan. I found myself in Kenting and when I got wifi I decided to find a hotel in the area. This place popped up and I booked it without reading the reviews. My bad, as this place is somewhere between an 80's resort on the wrong island in Hawaii and a Motel 6. When I checked in I was told they had multiple places to eat. Sadly only the buffet was open. The food looked like leftovers from breakfast and completely inedible. I asked three staff members about additional food selections and was walked to a glass case outside the bar with wrapped sandwiches. Some "alternative" food to the already awful choices. Their bar has less liquor than mine at home and while the staff is pleasant and nice, this place is amateur hour. I was planning my exit from this place asap from the moment I checked in. Do your part, don't check in to begin with and you won't have issues.
