Howard Beach Resort Kenting

The place was built as a 5 star resort, currently several areas need massive updating and the whole complex should not have a 5 star rating anymore. The general facilities could probably get a 4 star rating in terms of size of the pool, proximity to the beach and tennis and basketball courts. However the buffet restaurant is not pretty and extremely chaotic, the general look and feel of all spaces is tired and old and the access to the beach requires quite a bit of walking, stairs and it is not a private beach. There are no restrooms at the beach, no towel service and beach umbrellas and lounge chairs need to be rented in cash. Food is available at the next beach but do not dream of a waiter bringing you anything fancy while laying in the sun, this is not that kind of place! Ii is a great place for families with children and therefore the hotel is loud especially the buffet restaurant and pool area. My room had crayon smudges and stains both on the walls and floor. Fridge did not work and the wardrobe did not have a door, in general it looked like a 2 star hostel room with the only addition of some toiletries. If the room was in the $50-65 range it would have been ok but anything above that I will suggest to go elsewhere unless you need the pool.

I decided to do a round the island trip of Taiwan when I found a $400 round trip ticket from SF to Taipei. I got a rental car and off I went. As a Marriott loyalist my first night was in Taipei and that is where Marriott properties end in Taiwan. I found myself in Kenting and when I got wifi I decided to find a hotel in the area. This place popped up and I booked it without reading the reviews. My bad, as this place is somewhere between an 80's resort on the wrong island in Hawaii and a Motel 6. When I checked in I was told they had multiple places to eat. Sadly only the buffet was open. The food looked like leftovers from breakfast and completely inedible. I asked three staff members about additional food selections and was walked to a glass case outside the bar with wrapped sandwiches. Some "alternative" food to the already awful choices. Their bar has less liquor than mine at home and while the staff is pleasant and nice, this place is amateur hour. I was planning my exit from this place asap from the moment I checked in. Do your part, don't check in to begin with and you won't have issues.

It was raining heavily during our stay, but we found a great place to spend our holiday within the resort. There is an arcade on the underground path to the beach. All those machines are popular games in 1990s. They are old but classic! It reminded our good old days. Even our kids found them interesting.

Definitely not as bad as others mention. The hotel offers good service regarding the money you pay for it. I agree that breakfast might be better- less variety but better quality of products would help. Rooms are huge and we didn't miss anything there. We liked the little beach (Shiaowan beach), which is situated just opposite the hotel. It would be really nice, if they provided beds and umbrellas for their guests just as the neighbouring hotel Caesar Park does. Generally, we enjoyed our stay.

Upon reading reviews, I know this is a old resort and was expecting it to be. The resort was huge with many different wings. The room with doors facing the outside terrace was nosier than the ones facing the inner hotel. We had to switch room for that reason. Rooms: very big. The mattress and pillow were okay, a little soft for my taste. I love they can add rail guard for kids bed. Location: great, as there is a semi private beach that you can get to through the underground hotel tunnel (meaning you don't have to cross the Kenting main street). The hotel is located at one end of the bustling Kengting main street, so it's close to things, but away from the noise. Beach: little bay beach is beautiful and less crowded than the other main beaches. The waves are gentle in the morning perfect for younger kids. In the afternoon it gets much rougher, but still managable if you are a good swimmer. Food: the include breakfast had a great selection from western to eastern type cuisine. They also had a vegetarian section too. The restaurants/buffet were okay. There are tons of places to eat if you venture out of the hotel, however many don't really open for lunch. Kids friendly: lots to do just on the hotel grounds. There is a big indoor playground in the basement area (perfect for rainy days) with slides and ball pit. There is a deer farm/feeding area in the courtyard. There is a huge pool with two hot tubs. You can also rent stroller for free. Staff: very helpful and super friendly. A few things to point out: 1. there is a long pathway (10 min) to walk out from the hotel to the main street, they do offer golf cart type shuttle. It's not bad walk as long as it's not too hot. 2. The aqua park inside the hotel is closed from renovation during slow season (March).

A nice resort hotel in a lovely location. Has all facilities kneeded for a family or a groul although it is updated. Not an ideal hotel for a one night stay.if you are a sea fan it is a place you can use all facilities you have around. Dinner was very good.

It is located near the sandy beach at Kenting’s Little Bay (5min walk) and the end of Kenting’s street night market (but far away to hear any noise). The hotel is very big with huge rooms. There is a large underground parking lot (free). Our room was upgraded and looking at the beach. We found our room (renovated) was very clean and comfortable. The outdoor pool is very big but the water is too cold (I wonder why they have this cold temperature). We enjoyed the hot tubs/jacuzzi. The service was very good and staff are friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast with so many different food and drinks. There is a deer area where you can buy food to feed them. There is a special private underground tunnel/passage that goes to the beach which was great. The thing we didn’t like about the hotel was that it was very old (built in the 80’s) and desperate need renovation. There is construction going on near the pool. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and find it very quiet family hotel. Nearby, there is a Starbuck, Rabbit Rabbit Biker Bite (excellent burger), Water Space (Indoor pool, slides).

Visit there before the Chinese New Year. I must say that I felt less than I expected. The hotel "compound" was huge and un- characteristicly put together. It looked tired. During our stay, several amenities were closed. The buffet was poor. It was stuffed with cheap ingredients. At any rate, the environment was clean and our room was big. By the way, don't even try using their shuttle services unless you are sure the hotel is going to dispatch a full size bus. A mini bus was dispatched in my case. The condition of the bus looked like it was ready to go to a junk yard. The leg room was so tiny on the bus, it was only good for people with petite stature. I was 6'1", and it was a torture.

The hotel has been there for many many years, it was the top notched hotel when it was open 30 years ago. I was born in TW so I knew. It's getting very old. The room we got on the back, a garden view, was roomy, but lighting did not feel enough. The buffet in the morning was just okay, because there are mostly local people or groups stayed there, so my husband could not find many western choices. Even there were some but not very tasteful. The property is getting rustic, but the service from front desk to greeting crew are very friendly. It is just an economy class, don't expect too much from it.

Very accommodating and friendly for travelers with children. The resort has many amnesties so you don't have to leave the resort to find something to do. It's also within walking distance to Kenting Main Street and a small beach.
