We travelled to the Racha in July 2017. It was a really good surprise from the beginning to the end! A Racha's car (brand new Mercedes Class E) came to pick us up at our hotel on Surin beach and in 20 minutes away, we were at the Lounge at Chalong Pier. Then, transportation to the island went smoothly. Arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed by a French person, very kind by the way, who showed the hotel and the room. This last was simply exceptional. Beyond our expectations I would say. Everything is well thought, the bed are extremely confortables though a little less bigger than what we usually expect in this type of hotels in Thailand. Our room was a 2-bedroom Grand Pool Villa, and we enjoyed the magnificent pool on the outside, very large and equipped with a jacuzzi and a sub water sound system, which was quite amazing to use! In the rooms, everything is trendy with a nice present touch of Thai style. What I liked the most during this stay was the king attention of the staff, always keen to bend to our expectations and needs. Every night after we went back from the restaurant, a turn down service had been done in our rooms, and each times, we found a nice gift on our pillows and candle were lightened. Everything is the detail, but mastered to perfection. The laundry service is perfect. We ate at the Sunset Beach Restaurant and the Earth Café, I would strongly recommend the first one which benefits from wonderful views of the ocean in the most peaceful, relaxing and intimate environment. The breakfast is composed of a wide range of Thai and International/European food; pretty complete and will highly satisfy everyone's needs. For the rest, the island and its water surroundings are really worth it. We rented with the hotel buggies to explore the forest, it was really fantastic! Pros: - Free late check-out (thanks to Pauline again!) - Perfect rooms - Locations and surroundings - Facilities at the hotel - The staff (From the car driver, to the receptionist, the housekeeper... Everyone!) - Good value for money in my mind, even if the hotel is pretty expensive all included Maybe a few cons though: - There are many Chinese people, too many maybe ... - A/C a bit confusing to use. - Beach dirty because of tide, but the hotel keeps cleaning it as much as possible. - Chalong Pier Lounge very loud and not up to the hotel standards. But this is really an experience, and for sure, I'll go back to the Racha very soon!
Very nice property close to Phuket. Fantastic beach just infront of the hotel that gets a bit busy of boats with beachgoers between mid day to 4pm but plenty of other options to explore on the island and why not relax back at the hotel pool if too crowded during day. Villas in top condition and would recommend the Pool suite villa, awesome
Nice place and great service! Definitely will come again. The thai food on the island is not the best but still acceptable. Massage and spa are great! After 3 PM, it is like a private beach. Very quiet. Suitable for family and lover.
The Racha is a certainly a great hotel with many benefits worth living for. First, we have the breathtaking view of the Andaman Sea, bundled with white, powdery sand. Then, we have some rather excellent food from the Sunset restaurant. The room facilities were awesome. However, we found a few problems. The service wasn't to our standards, and most of the staff have little understanding of English. Some parts of the property weren't properly maintained. In conclusion, the Racha is an awesome hotel, with amazing views, rooms and food, but much work needs to be done to the service and friendliness of the staff.
Where to begin! From the moment you arrive at The Racha office at Chalong Pier you will immediately know the level of service you will receive throughout your stay. Upon arriving to the island via the speedboat we were greeted with amazing crystal clear blue green waters of Batok Bay where The Racha sits directly in front of the beach. We were given a cool towel and welcome tea and were promptly escorted to our villa. We booked the Junior Pool Suite room type and were blown away by the size and amenities. The personal pool and outdoor shower were fabulous and were a great private spot to relax after a day on the beach or the main adult pool. The level of service and attention to detail by the staff of The Racha is second to none. I have travelled around the world and stayed at many 5-Star resorts and hotels yet Racha is the best. I forgot my wedding ring at another property in Phuket. After trying on my own to figure out how best to retrieve the ring I called guest services and spoke with Camille. She asked me the property name and said she would let me know what she could do to help. She called back shortly thereafter and said the staff were making an airport drop off and they could go by the other property to retrieve for me and that I’d have it by the evening. She had already called the other hotel and made the arrangements as well! Every staff member of the Racha is warm and so delightful to an exceptional level. The beach does get crowded but the Racha has its own section above the beach with loungers and easy access to the sand below. No beach in Thailand is private so be prepared for public crowds between 10am-4pm. DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE EXPERIENCE. Great people watching... We ate at every restaurant multiple times and it was all fantastic. Another highlight is the musical trio who play everyday but Sunday at the restaurants in the evening. They are superb and again so warm and kind. I sang a few songs with them and truly enjoyed their music! The Spa was fantastic as was the water sports team. Go on the morning walk around the island it was so great to see and provided a glimpse of local life on Racha. I could go on and on. We met almost every manager at the property and can see why this property shines. The quality leadership and attention to detail is impeccable! Devan the GM and his team are the best. They truly made our honeymoon magical and had us leaving feeling a sense of warmth that is so rare. Bravo Bravo Bravo! We will be back again and again.
When we pulled into Ko Racha by boat it took my breath away, crystal clear water and white powdery sand. The hotel itself did not disappoint and we were lucky to have a beachfront villa with private pool which was a joy (although only got sun on the loungers for small part of day). The breakfast was very good although we found the restaurants over priced - captive audience as little other options. The spa was wonderful and I had probably the best massage ever by a lady called Gate! Now the down side. Each day at around 10/10.30 hundreds of day trippers descend on the island - predominantly Chinese tourists who love nothing more than spending the day photographing themselves and leaving their litter all over the beach! Unfortunately, due to the currents, those crystal waters I spoke of are full of plastic - I snorkelled and every minute had to remove plastic off my body - poor fish! There is no policing of the tourists and encouragement to pick up their litter and place in the numerous bins - I saw one large family group just get up and walk away when they were sitting in front of the bin!! I drew their attention to it and they pretended they didn’t understand and walked off leaving me to put their crap in the bin. It is a real sin as it is a truly stunning place. I was there 3 days with my teenage sons - the first two days the boats moored in the bay around the corner and the day trippers arrived by road, the third day to my horror the jetty has been moved to our beach and around 30 boats filled the tiny cove and the sea was sectioned off to swim in a small area which was filled with Chinese in life jackets - the start of the high season! I dread to think what the beach would be like in December - packed and filthy I suspect. I know there is little the staff at The Racha can do as all beaches in Thailand are open to the public but something needs to be done by the tour guides who bring people to paradise for the day and leave it a mess - telling people the anti littering policy, big signs, on the spot fines, active encouragement to pick up rubbish ... However, The Racha is a gorgeous hotel and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. I would come again with my partner but certainly not in high season.
When you have had enough of all the hustle & excitment of mainland Phuket, this place is a world apart with its pristine clear bay, white sand, luxurious villas, nice food and friendly staff. The trick however is to go swimming in the sea early in the morning before the day trippers come (as it is still a public beach) and then retreat into the spa or your own private in-room pool for a super-chilled time.
We booked the whole packege through FlightCentre. We arranged for a special pick up from the airport, through the hotel. The driver was waiting for us on our arrival and was very accommodating, stopping to check local fruit vendors for mangosteen, when we mentioned that we love it, even though the season was almost over. Despite arriving in pouring rain, on the speedboat transfer, which was extremely bumpy, the staff took great care, providing rain ponchos, assisting boarding and leaving the boat etc. On arrival we were delighted to be given a wonderful villa next to the sea, as we requested, which we would like to have again on our next visit. There was a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh fruit waiting for us in the room. The fruit was replaced once during our stay of 8 days, but it would have been nicer had this been more regular. However we were surprised one evening by some wonderful chocolate macaroon biscuits. All the staff were courteous and helpful, always with smiling faces, and very accommodating. Devan, the General Manager, was away for the beginning of our stay, but made a point of finding us to see how things were for us when he arrived the day before we left. Every evening in the main dining area there was a band of 3 singer/musicians, who played a wide selection of very pleasant songs to accompany our dinner, which we thoroughly enjoyed. On one evening, when we were the only guests present they still managed to play with great enthusiasm and smiles. Food was plentiful and well presented, for the breakfast buffet. The variety of bread was excellent. On evenings, when we had bread served with our starters, it was served fresh, warm and with a delicious garlic herb butter. Despite being there during the rainy season with strong winds and waves, we managed to enjoy snorkelling on the sheltered side of the island, which was only 10 minutes walk away from our hotel. There were hotel tractor rides to the other beaches, three times a day, but chose to walk. We enjoyed the body-boarding even though we were looking forwards to SUP and kayaking, but the seas were too rough. The grounds were very pleasant and held an incredible amount of wildlife. There were several monitor lizards wandering free. We had geckos, agama lizards, a tree frog, locust sized grasshoppers and flocks of beautiful butterflies in our private garden surrounding our pool. Our private pool also had a delightful hot and cold water shower next to it, which was wonderful to use after swimming in the sea. There was always a plentiful supply of beach towels by the beach. All in all we had a wonderful restful stay and would recommend it to anyone who want a quiet getaway, during the rainy season. Even though were were there during the rainy season there were days without rain and plenty of sunshine to give us a good tan. Because it was quite windy, most days, the mosquitoes were not a great problem and the hotel readily provided mosquito repellent.
A much needed and long overdue holiday trip brought us to a private island off Phuket Island, called Koh Racha Yai. It's only a 30 minutes' ride on one of our the resort's private boat which goes into Phuket Island 3 times a day to drop off/pick-up guests of the hotel. The beautiful resort called "The Racha" was simply Heaven on Earth! My husband and I have been to a couple of resorts including on Phuket Island but The Racha is really something! I am not a sun, sea and beach person but 4 nights at The Racha and I didn't want to leave the resort when I had to return home to reality in the city. They have only villas which you may choose depending on the number of persons. We stayed in the Junior Pool VIlla which was amazing. The bed was so comfortable and the villa has a balcony where you can relax on the lounge bed, read a book or just stare out to the sea. It also has a separate leaving room where a private jacuzzi pool provides an alternative to the main pools (which they have 3 around the resort!). I loved the outdoor shower (they have an indoor one as well) and especially in such nice warm weather, showering outdoors was so refreshing, surrounded by bird of of paradise and other plants. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, always on hand to assist when needed and alwasy with a genuine warm smile! The highlight of my stay was the beautiful warm, clear and clean waters at the beach which is just at the doorstep of the resort. The sand was very fine and pristine. Though I am not a beach person, I have to say that this beach really made me change my mind about dipping in the sea. The water was nice and warm and so clean; the waves were fun and my husband and I had a great time taking on the waves as they rolled in, sometimes sweeping us off our feet. The Racha also has a good choice of restaurants which was great especially for those who stay for an extended period. The Earth Cafe is the all-day dining and a hearty breakfast choice awaits us every morning. You will forget about dieting at breakfast when you see the spread which you will not be able to resist! If you listen pizzas, they serve fantastic pizzas and pastas, My husband tried the Arrabiata, Bolognese and Cabonara and none disappointed him (different meals of course!). If you fancy a burger or Thai, the Sunset Beach restaurant would satisfy your cravings. And if it is a romantic quiet dinner, then The Fire Grill would be it! Or request for a romantic dinner on the beach and the staff will be most happy to arrange it. Sunset-gazing at the lobby lounge is just so relaxing, looking out onto the horizon and watching the sun setting after a wonderful day on the beach. The Spa is also another stop you have to make. I had a 90-minute body massage which was really good and the therapist soothed away those tense muscles. I also attend the yoga classes (my very first ever) and it was so good that all my nagging pains and 'fused' joints disappeared after my 3rd yoga session! There are many other activities like snorkeling, Thai cooking classes, cycling etc which we did not have enough time to try but defineltey do so on our next trip (yes, will definitely go back again and this time to convince some friends to come along so we can book the two-bedroom villa with a big private pool!). To really enjoy the resort you hostel stay at least 4 nights so that everything can be done on a leisurely pace. It's good to get in early on the first day so one can explore and relax and plan your activities. That will give you 4 full days on the resort. I am back home in the city but could still visualize the beautiful beach scenery in my mind......... If you are planning a relaxing trip at a sea resort, I strongly recommend The Racha, you will not be disappointed!
My husband and I stayed at The Racha for 4 nights in mid August. It was a Vacation in Paradise for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and found it very hard to leave when our vacation ended! The Racha has a beautiful atmosphere of "understated elegance" which is exactly our type of resort for a vacation. I am providing my review in a few categories below which I hope will be helpful for others: TRAVEL: Seamless and very well organized. From the moment we landed in Phuket airport for the start of our vacation to the moment we were dropped off at the airport at the end of our vacation, we were extremely well taken of by the Racha staff (I definitely recommend booking the private transportation with The Racha for the trip to and from Chalong Pier from the airport). After arriving at their local office at Chalong Pier, and checking-in there, we took a 35 minute speed boat ride to Racha Yai island where the resort is located. When we arrived at the Racha resort, it was a swift and efficient process to our villa and .... Wow!! VILLA: we stayed in Grand Pool Suite #102. And when I say "we stayed in" it, I literally mean we spent most of our time during our vacation IN the villa. It is gorgeous with a king sized bed, big bathroom with a jacuzzi tub with a beautiful view, three showers (two indoors and one outdoor shower), living room, sitting area, and our most favourite part -- a beautiful private infinity pool (with ozone treated, non-chlorinated water!) which overlooks an amazing view of Batok Bay and the Andaman Sea. This villa was situated in a way that was very private from the other villas. The villa was very well-appointed - they thought of everything, down to even a bottle of bug spray for use if needed (there weren't any mozzies while we were there but totally appreciated having it available if needed). I must also mention the towels -- they are soft and luxurious ( I have been to so many other resorts who provide towels which feel like they need to be replaced ). This villa was perfect for our vacation where all we wanted was to chill and relax. FOOD: The food at the resort was excellent - very tasty and in big portions (my husband and I usually had trouble finishing our food!). There are four restaurants that you can pick from at the resort. The breakfast buffet in the morning had a huge spread and assortment of food, including champagne! We also ordered room service a few times and the food always arrived efficiently. There is one restaurant which turns into a fine dining restaurant in the evening and we throughly enjoyed one of our dinners there on the terrace -- a huge shout out to Gabriel (executive chef) for the delicious food he prepared that evening. STAFF: The service at the Racha is excellent. All of the staff serve with such a humble and authentic spirit in them. It is very evident that they love working at the resort - this speaks wonders. Devan (General Manager) was excellent -- what a job well done in managing this beautiful resort. ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES: As advertised, the Racha "practices ecological and environmentally responsible development and experiences" and "abides by the highest standards of eco-responsible tourism". We were impressed with how the resort executed this philosophy through the use of technologies such as the Hydroponics Farm (organic produce), Solar-Diesel Hybrid Station (50% of electricity), Bio-Fuel station (food waste converted to bio-gas), Charcoal Station (wood/food scraps formed into briquettes), heat exchangers (conversion of a/c water byproducts into bathroom hot water), rain water collection, recycling and treatment (sustainable water sources), and energy saving/LED bulbs deployed throughout the property. These initiatives should be commended as shining examples of genuine environmental efforts, to be appreciated by guests and should be emulated by other resorts throughout the world! I would highly recommend the Racha to anyone!
