Kamala Beach Resort a Sunprime Resort4.0 out of 5.0

We travelled to Phuket in September with SAGA knowing that this was the rainy season. We wanted to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in a special way and we were not disappointed. The Kamala Beach Resort was all we could hope for - the staff were wonderful, the food excellent and the position on the beach was ideal, although the sea was rough at times. It rarely rained all day, so we were often able to swim in the several excellent pools and enjoy the sun. The Thai food in the restaurant is wonderful and as a change, you can order from a number of Italian dishes, including pasta and pizza. Everything is freshly prepared and beautifully presented. Also, the bar drinks are good and the house wine excellent. The rooms are a little dated but are spacious and clean. Of particular note is Tom, the Saga rep, who was attentive, helpful and always cheerful. He arranged special treats for us for our anniversary - very thoughtful. The local village of Kamala, just a short walk away has many useful shops and restaurants. We found a local tailor (called, I think, Modern Tailors, on a corner on the way to the "Big C" supermarket) who was able to make superb made-to-measure garments - a coat and two dresses for my wife and a fine black jacket and waistcoat for me to wear at my Freemasons meetings, all at very reasonable prices. All in all, it was a great celebration, well worth the long flights.
First time to Phuket, we had lovely time at the hotel. Great location, nice clean and quiet hotel grounds well maintained. Rooms a bit outdated and dark ( attention need ). All facilities good , staff very friendly
Pros: #1. Beach front #2. Resort big but not too much of a walk from front lobby/ rooms to beach & breakfast area. #3. Free upgrade - unfortunately the free upgrade was a room beside the elevator so I can't really say it was great because of the noisy elevator but the lady at the front desk did warn us before hand. The best thing about that room was the king bed. It was extremely comfortable and the so were the pillows, one of the comfiest beds I've slept on in a hotel which was a surprise. #4. Laundry across the street near the front of hotel cheap 60 thb / kg #5. Beach strip has a lot of stores & restaurants and walk left and cross the small bridge and you will see a whole bunch of stores and restaurants on the Main Street. Cons: #1. Breakfast is weak. #2. It can get loud #3. Old run down rooms and pool #4. mini mart is over priced #5. Food not that good. My advice is always see your room before you go to it. Good location but for what it is it really needs some maintenance.
We have been at this hotel 4 times and are frequent travellers ..... The location only is the reason we are back . The rooms need updating and a paint job is needed . They do not accept cash at the pool bar anymore .... The staff need training in customer device and English language. The bathrobes and slippers are not good quality the rooms are Dark and uneven concrete around resort uneven with many tripping over. We have realised over the years that the massages and location is great however the cleanliness gas gone done we don't feel like guests here only a number to put back sides on seats . We have stayed In 5 star resorts and the difference is amazing driving to the hotel in the driveway us dirty with abandon cars not a good Look no pride!!!! A turnoff. The restaurant has great food however breakfast pastries don't seem to be fresh . Kamala never offer upgrades we have had am free massage and 1 dinner provided for our loyalty but had to ask for it . The manner from pool staff is appealing with guests not made to be felt as welcomed the restaurants outside to the right of the resort on beach becareful with calculations of bills and staff very pushy not going back again have discovered nicer resorts in the beach in a cleaner and more updated resort KAMALA needs to look at premises and really start providing quality instead of location
First time to Phuket, we had heard the beach's out of Patong were nicer so we opted for Kamala, ended up paying 15AUD each way into Patong so 30AUD each day just on transport, so next time would stay in Patong. The rooms were dark and damp, the breakfast was very average, not much of a selection and the hygiene of staff wasn't the best I saw one staff member re-arranging the hash browns with her bare hands after walking around cleaning so it put me off the food all together. The room service food and restaurant food at night was also terrible. wouldn't return, actually tried to change hotels but because it was last minute there wasn't much availability elsewhere so stayed there in the end. Next time I think we will pay the extra to stay somewhere a bit nicer
You have everything in this resort, direct access to beach, 2x big pools, 2x small pools at beach-front, 2 restaurants and one facing the beach, a mini-mart, a big gym and fitness room for yoga, pilates.
If you are looking for a spotless, beautiful hotel with tons of amenities and a great location in Phuket then Sunprime is a great choice. Luckily I did research and found that only 4% of all hotels on Phuket are actually beachfront. All the others you must cross a busy street or several streets. Kamala Beach Resort is on the beautiful Kamala Beach. The resort is huge, yes, so unless you splurge and get one of the rooms with a sea view, then you are going to have to walk a little bit, It really isn't that far and if you forget something or need something in your room, at least you are still on the resort. The resort has 4 awesome swimming pools, two with bars, two restaurants, and the front of the resort is indeed right on the beach. The cool thing is that you can get a lounge chair at the pool by the beach and if you want to swim in the ocean, then you simply leave your towel and things on your beach chair, walk a few steps to the ocean, take a dip, then walk a few steps back and you are back at the pool where you can order a cocktail. Kamala walking street is right down the beach and has many shops and restaurants and bars. It is a cute little street but has everything you need. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and always smiling and the breakfast buffet is hands down the best I have had. So much to choose from and wth a she view! This hotel is in a great location, has the most comfy beds and sheets, a free fruit plate upon arrival, anything you need! I came here during low season and got a free upgrade. For a little over $100 US per night, this place is a five star bargain. I highly recommend it.
Loved staying here again our fourth visit to Sunprime, rooms lovely and clean staff great, pools are just beautiful. Restaurant right on the beach, restaurants along the beach, great food, and a small village shops and more restaurants for all your needs loved Kamala very relaxing stay..
Great hotel with good breakfast. Tried dinner as well but found even the Thai food far too European. 4 pools which ensures it is never crowded. One pool even open until 10pm for swimming and a drink. No children under 16 allowed which makes this a nice relaxing hotel. Room service is really good! Recommend to take a pool view room - quiet with a great view and even sun glowing. We would come again.
Away from busy and noisy Patong Beach, Kamala beach is comparatively clean, less crowded and peaceful. Rooms are good and clean, very friendly staff. 3 quite big pools so usually they aren't crowded. But you find more people in pools with bar attached. Breakfast was good with possible varieties. The hotel restaurants serve good food, but it might be bit expensive option. Have facility of Thai massage at very nominal price. The beach from the hotel is on west facing so you need to go anywhere to watch beautiful sunset, but can watch it sitting in your room (if you opted for room with sea view). But if you are planning to try some local food there are no decent options at walkable distance. As soon as you enter into hotel, take some time to inquire about shuttle buses facility, browse options for taxis and different tour plans. *Unregistered guests are not allowed*
