It was generally good but had features of a reservation: hard to get out and visit neighboring towns without a car. Taxis were available but unreasonably expensive. Not good for someone who loves quiet: a lot of families with small children. Local peddlers on the beach are somewhat of a pest. Communication problems - even the hotel staff is not really English speaking as opposed to what one would expect from an upscale international hotel chain.
This hotel filled every wish I had in looking for a quiet, hassle-free, on the beach hotel. The Sheraton is one of 4 or 5 hotels in the Laguna property so all rooms, villas, and homes are surrounded by a lake which is very peaceful. The complimentary breakfast has everything for everyone, rating it 3.5 out of 5. The rooms are large and all have balconys overlooking the lagoon. A short walk leads you straight to the beach where you can be served food/cocktails. Or get a massage. The property has 2 baby elephants that walk around twice a day and even go to the beach!! Thai food was quite good. And there is a shuttle that will take you to any of the other hotels on the property to golf, have cocktails or dinner. Need to take a taxi to town for nightlife if that's what you're looking for. For me, it was pure bliss!!!
