Great hotel with reasonable price and access to the beach. We really liked the beach there because it was local style, not too much commercialization and friendly people. In the resort all facilities and the room was good for us.
This hotel had its best days in the past. Renovation is necessary anyway. Staffel seems overstrained, is not flexible and not helpful. Rooms stink rotten/wet. Pillows are mouldy. Better spend your money somewhere else.
It's happens that me and my girl friends decided to spend the weekend in phuket so we flew from Bangkok to phuket and we booked at Amora bang Tao beach last minute . We took a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel excited about the great escape weekend however our big surprise was that we denied the check in from the receptionist claiming that their office is close during the weekend The receptionist was totally unfriendly ,arrogant and tried to rent the room me at higher rate which I consider a proper scam. I will not recommend this place A total disappointment! Scammers
We stayed at Amora for 2 nights. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Resort is clean. Room was great, big comfy and clean. There was a sewage smell in 1 area, that u get a lot in Phuket. Breakfast was amazing, everything u need. Pools lovely and beach right there too. Location is good for quiet relaxing, there's a few beach bars along the beach, couple restaurants, 7/11 but not much else. Walking on the road is hard as no room. We went to Boat Ave for shopping but it wasn't worth it. Great tai massage across the road, taxi available but no tuk tuks.
Booked in March, at that time there was no mention of renovation work being done. Yes this is the Off Season but this is a huge hotel with around 10 seperate buildings and very low occupancy so why were we placed right beside the work area. Work was every day we could quite easily been put nowhere near the building going on. Then every night outside our door there was a constant beeping just to add to the extremely noisy aircon. Plus outside each room on our floor is an inspection door with no catch, first night this banged open and shut in the wind. Second night we had jammed something in it to keep it closed. Only staff to bother speaking to us was the lady who cleaned our room and the guy at the pool, rest of staff never acknowledged you at all, never returned a smile. In the end we gave up! Maintaining this hotel seems to be beyond them, rooms are very very outdated, grounds and pathways all need work. Pictures are certainly not accurate. Breakfast adequate, gave up waiting at the egg station for an omelette, chef was outside talking to another member of staff, not inclined to serve me. Two good points, on the beach, although they had the beach closed sign up the whole 6 days( we walked south a little to were everyone else was swimming )& a nice very clean pool. Thank goodness we could escape along the beach during the days to sit , eat, drink and swim. Bed like rock and pillows worse! In all we couldn't wait to leave. Stayed in many places in Thailand and not too fussy but really this one was dreadful.
Gosh, some people will moan about absolutely everything! We are just at the end of a three night stay. Room service has been great. Rooms efficiently cleaned each day. Food is nice. Room clean, good size with pool and sea view. Yes, here and there could need a lick of paint but does this really make for a good holiday? Similarly do staff need a permanent, cheesy grin on their face? No but you do, if you want to make a nice holiday. Gardens are beautiful kept and when the sun is shining, you would be hard pushed to find somewhere nicer by the pool or sea front. Been really lovely, we would come back x
The good stuff first, the location is great, right on the best beach in Phuket, quiet, clean and safe. great gardens, 2 nice pools and great massage center in the grounds. The rooms were comfortable and mine was clean, all you really need. Now the not so good, within 3 days of arriving and receiving the worst customer service I have ever experienced I wrote and email of complaint expressing disappointment about the lack of welcome, the lack of smiles & friendliness of the staff in fact the issue was the staff seemed lazy and not interested at all. I had a meeting with the General Manager Mr "Tom" Adisom and Ms K Prea the Front Office Manager. I explained my history of visiting Thailand and my expectations of the warm hospitality that I feel the Thai people are known for, I also explained I am an experienced Hotelier having worked for Inter.Continental Hotels for 15 year and been a General Manager of a 438 room 5 Star hotel in Australia (I am no longer in the industry). My way of separating issues is hardware and software, the hardware is physical and software is the human elements. Some or most of the hard ware issues can be explained and forgiven as the issues may not be in the hands of the hoteliers, it could be in the hands of the owners and not wanting to spend money etc but the software is unforgivable as that can make all the difference, it costs nothing to smile, be friendly and welcoming. Some of their systems were at fault as well. We discussed all my concerns and Mr Adisom advised he had only recently joined the hotel and was aware of some issues that he was working through. At the end of my 13 night stay i must say things did improve, the staff were engaged and smiled, welcomed you and tried to engage you even if English was difficult. A vast improvement that I put down to Mr Adisom and Ms Prea. They both were very professional and interested in what I had to say and welcomed feedback, because if they don't know they cant fix it, so I encourage everyone if there are issues to let them know. The only area that i feel needs urgent attention is the food and beverage, the quality of the offering is below standard, I always feel the European food is not the same as home which is forgivable but when the basic Thai food is below the standard you expect it tells you there are issues. There are 4 venues including room services so they all have the same menu which is very limiting. Overall at the end of the stay I would recommend Amora if you are looking for a nice comfortable hotel on a beach that is great for sun worshiping, walking or the kids playing on the sand or waves. I would look for alternate dinner options for the time being.
To give a fare rating... Good location on the beach , otherwise almost no service ! Not even hello or anything ... when I asked for a later check out - it was unpleasant " 100 " TB an hour , when usually most hotels say - till 2 pm or so no problem if there are rooms ... place is very big !!!! I would not stay here again
After having booked this hotel then read the previous reviews, I was a bit concerned what we might find. However, we were greeted with smiles and courtesy, given a room to shower in as we arrived in the morning and check in time was 3pm and were finally given our room before 3pm. We had problems with the safe but that was sorted fairly quickly. I would agree the place does look a little tired in places and the bathroom could do with an update as the seals in shower were black with mould. Having said that, there was hot water all the time and toilet flushed well! Both pools were in use and were lovely with well tended gardens. Staff were friendly and smiley if you made the effort first to say ' hi'. The restaurants were ok and choice for included breakfast was ample from hot thai dishes to cereal, fresh fruit, egg station, bread ,cakes and pasties, juices, tea. The restaurants offered the same if not similar and everything we ate was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were quite reserved and appeared quite miserable but after a few days they seemed better once we made the first effort. The hotel was full mostly of Russians and we were led to believe we were the only English clients. The sunbeds on the beach were usually taken by 9am by the Russians reserving them with their towels and we understood that this was not allowed but management had no way of implementing it! Lots of bars and restaurants close by along the beach. Beach lovely sand and shallow waters. I would certainly used Amora again.
However this has 4 stars is beyond me. They can only be based on the gardens and the view. Our rooms were shabby and damp. The breakfast was poor and the restaurant smelled like an old canteen. We had wood worm shavings on our pillows upon arrival and they kept appearing. The hotel needs a complete revamp. The pond was dirty and the amenities were shabby. Very disappointing.
