After walking through town for a few days, I can’t see a better place to stay. A beautifully restored 14th century palace in a central location so you don’t exhaust yourself on the hills. Beautifully appointed rooms. Terrific service, comfortable bed, strong shower. The bathtub/shower is also a jacuzzi so it is a big step in and out. Plus the best cappuccino.
You can’t be more in the center than here. Exactly in the square. The people are super nice and so is the talking parrot in the reception. The and rooms are very clean. The price was more than good. In this season there were not many tourists and it was kind of magic
Perfectly located in the heart of Gubbio, many restaurants nearby, nice rooms perfectly heated and with lovely windows. It’s a medieval building with different terraces at the different levels, you must use stairs to reach the upper floors or if phisically hindered you can use the special system available at the hotel. I personally found the breakfast not at the same level of the hotel but lack of space probably doesn’t help. Parking, free or with a ticket, is 400 mt away. After the first day decided to park on the ground level, uncovered, paying 4 euros at night. The lower level, free and covered, is good for normal cars not for sport ones. In fact when yo go down on the slop there is a sort of step and you can damage your car underneath, actually happened to me.
On a recent visit to Gubbio Old Town we made two visits to this beautiful hotel set alongside Gubbio's magnificent Piazza Grande. Our first visit was for coffee's whilst on our second, we had a fine lunch sat in the sunshine on the hotel's outer table in the Piazza square. The staff were efficient and friendly and the lunch was delightful. For those visiting Gubbio Old Town I recommend a visit to see the hotel's palatial outer decor and its inner old world charm.
We stayed in a double room for one night and we loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was on the 4th floor and it overlooked the historical center of Gubbio. The bed was large and comfortable, bathroom clean and spacious; we also appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee. There were beautiful gardens on each level and also a secret tunnel! Continental breakfast was ok. There is a free underground parking the hotel recommends and it is 10 minutes away on foot, you can enter the old city and leave the luggage at the reception and then go and park. There are a lot of stairs leading from the entrance to the reception and they are quite steep - after that there is an elevator for the upper floors.
I've been here with my girlfriend just for 2 nights and we had a wonderful stay ! 1) Excellent first impression at arrival. Especially the owner Daniela was very professional, helpful and with a huge smile ! We'll remember that ! 2) My room was in the historic part of the hotel where you can find a beautiful garden with view on the old town ! Very romantic especially at sunset. The room was completely furnished: television, free wi-fi, hairdryer, bathtub, minibar, ecc. 3) The buffet breakfast it's served every morning at the hotel bar. It was delicious ! There's ham, italian salami, different kind of cheese, crossaint, jams, eggs (with a small extra cost you can have scrambled eggs), juices, yogurt, italian espresso, cappuccino, for us it was enough ! During the summer you can bring the food from the breakfast room on the tables outside on the main square of Gubbio ! Piazza Grande if I'm not wrong ! :) 4) The restaurants that Barbara from reception recommend us were excellent ! Taverna del Lupo the highest quality restaurant of Gubbio where we had our best pasta with truffle. I love that ! It was tasting so good.. 5) Even the farewell was great, very warm ! The guy from United States help us a lot with car and the luggage ! Thanks once to everyone ! I'll recommend this hotel to my family and friends. See ya !
We stayed in July 2017, end of July, and we had a wonderful stay at the Relais Ducale. The owner welcomed us warmly and the staff were very helpful. The good thing about the hotel's location is the access to the Piazza Grande overlooking Gubbio. Early evening, we sat at the terrace next to the Piazza Grande and enjoyed a lovely aperitif. The rooms are unique and walking up to the rooms you can't overlook the antique furnitures which makes it all so more exceptional. Breakfast was divine and after staying at the hotel for two nights, we will definitely head back in the near future.
You simply cannot have a better location in the city as the hotel is situated next to Palazzo dei Consoli, one of the most interesting historical sites. The rooms are spacious, there is a splendid room for "reflection" next to the reception, beautifully furnished, all the staff most helpful and attentive and breakfast decent. Moreover, if you come by car, you can park briefly to unload the luggage and them have a free parking nearby. There is also a lovely terrace right next to the reception on the second floor where you can dine, have drinks and coffee..
This is a rambling hotel with rooms and terrace gardens on several levels, which is entirely in keeping with the layout of the town - not surprising, as it's a conversion of several old buildings (make sure to explore the secret passages). We loved the barrel-vaulted room we occupied, which was both comfortable (a/c, mini-bar, tea-making tray which is far from universal in Italian hotels) and characterful, and the gardens above the main piazza were a delight. I am not a good sleeper, but was not bothered at all by the bell tower which some reviewers mentioned, so it probably depends on your room. Breakfast and bar were both good, and the staff were without exception friendly and helpful (thanks also to Dora the parrot).
Excellent location, but very small and under-equipped room, quite a convoluted architecture, low quality breakfast with acceptable price level. Not a good deal anyway, there's better around, I guess. Good for one night, not for a long stay
