The rooms were clean and tidy and the facilities were adequate for a 3 star hotel. The environment around the hotel was a bit strange - situated down a very steep wooded road close to a dilapidated apartment complex. As a result the place seemed full of local people standing around outside smoking and drinking and looking rather menacingly at the guests as they 'dared' to enter their territory. The restaurant was rather stark by Italian standards but the breakfast was fine. This was a good value hotel but some way from the centre of Perugia. .
A three star hotel that totally fit the bill. The cost of the room was more than reasonable as rooms were a good size and most had balconies. Lovely view over the valley. Breakfast for only 6 euro each was fabulous value. We had a delicious meal at the restaurant that night and I had one of the nicest lasagnes I had during my 2 months in Italy.
Clean, in a peaceful location, without city noises, very polite stuff, good breakfast buffet, 25 minutes (maximum) walk to the center, but there is also a hotel shuttle bus if you don't like to walk. Recommend it strongly, would come again
Lovely hotel excellent staff and sun terrace if you want a tan. It's a canny walk into Perugia all up hill and in the heat is quite a hike.Shuttle bus helps with this if only at certain times.Parking no problem; outside area to relax with a drink.Cleanliness of hotel excellent throughout .Its not the prettiest looking hotel and room walls are quite thin. However this is only a minor issue .Air con is functional and works well.Lovely views from room over the valley .Breakfast typical Italian; cakes biscuits coffee juices etc.
We stayed at Hotel Ilgo for 10 days while doing a wine and food tour of Umbria. The hotel itself is the perfect location to use as a base to see different regions. The balcony off our room gave us beautiful sunrises overlooking Perugia! Everyone at the hotel was friendly and caring and saw to our every need. They even made us cappuccinos when the restaurant area was closed! The food in the hotel restaurant was beyond amazing ! Very clean, very accommodating. Breakfast and wifi included. We came as tourists and left as family.
We mostly chose this hotel because it was a bit away from the city center (but not too far), had free parking and free breakfast. It was a nice hotel in terms of location and breakfast. The walls are a bit thin, so be prepared to hear your neighbors, but if they're too loud, feel free to ask the staff to have you moved. We did that, and they were wonderfully accommodating. In fact, one particular member of the staff, Andrea, was very helpful and kind despite being befuddled by some of our requests. In addition, the wifi works decently well, and be sure to ask for the rooms with the balconies with the better view (although admittedly that side is a bit louder).
Although a steep 15 minute walk into the centre there is a welcome hotel bus. But the walk is wonderful as we saw such interesting streets, buildings and awesome views. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is plentiful. This hotel is spotlessly clean and our room was pristine every day. We had a lovely stay here. It was so quiet......only birdsong....... which was delightful. If you need to go to the airport book a taxi!! (We booked a shuttle bus for the airport and it was so late it cost us an extra €50 to board.) (This has nothing to do with the hotel and is just a bit of advice)
Very friendly staff, very reasonable rates and free parking which from what I could see is not available at any hotel closer to the centre. It was about a 15 minute walk to the centre which was challenging due to the steep climb but we managed fine. There is a shuttle bus that takes guests into the centre although we did not use this service. There was a lovely view from the room. Unfortunately all these positives were outweighed by the complete lack of sound proofing between rooms. You can hear everything above and either side of you. To make it worse we were staying next to a family with a child that would roar and scream continuously every night until well after midnight and then from 6am. We got very little sleep as a result and is the reason I would not stay here again. The rooms are quite dated, in particular the en-suites need updating. The en-suite was also tiny making getting in and out of the shower difficult.
I can only confirm the enthusiastic reviews preceding me. The hotel and restaurant are well decorated, comfortable, clean and warm. The service excellent, professional and courteous. The complimentary shuttle for the uphill center of Perugia very much appreciated by all. The price more than reasonable for everything offered and a delicious dinner as well. We will certainly recommend to all friends who want to visit this charming town halfway between Florence and Rome.
Only ten months late with my write up of the Hotel Ilgo. This is a terrific hotel, sure, a little dated perhaps, but it was clean, tidy and above all else comfortable. We were made to feel welcome, we were shown an alternative family room if the initial one was too small. That was without prompting. First class customer service. All the staff were friendly, including the rather stern fellow who ran the hotel restaurant! Great place. We've never visited Perugia before and seeing as we were looking to go away for the half term (always too expensive) we wanted to go somewhere special. Perugia (plus our day trip to Assisi) was special indeed. Shops, walks, museums, more walks and gorgeous February sunshine and friendly people everywhere. The hotel was found after hours of searching for a destination that would be reasonable in cost and well situated. Considering the other hotels in the centre were prohibitively expensive, we thought we'd give Ilgo a try. One other thing that swayed us was the very nasty review by a fellow TripAdvisor reviewer who stayed in October 2014 (read for yourselves in the reviews). We read the Hotel's response and thought to ourselves that 'they care' about their business and thought that too was a good indicator. Steep walks, yes. Great walks though and you got to eat fine food in the restaurant at the end of each one (yes, we ate in the restaurant and glad we did so). The food was lovely, delicious and regional. The service was great. Even giving my youngest stern looks and a few words when he kept getting up and down from the table! We have no problem with this at all. And after a couple of occasions, our son soon stopped! Excellent. And we did try a bit of Italian when we felt brave enough to do so. Location was fine. The shuttle bus was an excellent feature but one we used only we didn't fancy the walking! Our family room was actually two adjoining rooms and offered to us without prompts or fuss because the first room was an individual room for a family. We took them up on the offer and stayed for one week. I'd recommend the Hotel Ilgo any day and follow them on Instagram where they tempt with photos of their cuisine and regional events/highlights. We're thinking about a return visit this coming February. Give them a go.
