We made a last minute room reservation through Trip Advisor. When we got to the hotel the room was not going to work for us but the hotel staff was so helpful. They showed us other options and we found the perfect arrangement for our family. We also had a car and they allowed us to park in their private garage because there were no more parking spaces available in the parking area. Breakfast was extensive and delicious. We enjoyed it so much, we stayed a second night!
Spent more than a week in this amazing family-run well organised family business, which is not treated as a business: guests feel loved and looked after 24hrs a day. That's what I personally felt, whenever entering, getting my key, saying Hi to the person in the front desk. All the staff members are amazingly polite. The restaurant is very well known in the area for being one of the best ones. The room was always tidy and the price was fair for the value we got. I definitely recommend Hotel Clitunno to whoever wants to experience a nice, relaxed and quite time in one of the most beautiful cities in Umbria.
The hotel has character and the room was ok and clean although small. The outside aircon machines were noisy and each night we were woken by bottles being put out for refuse. Parking is extremely limited. We were lucky and got a space in the allocated spaces out front. The lovely young girl who checked us in explained where we could park should the lot be full and gave us a ticket for this eventuality. The other staff are pleasant enough if not lacking in a little warmth towards their guests. The older gentleman seemed a little brusque and the younger manager dressed extremely casually which seemed out of kilter with the formally dressed restaurant staff and night porter. We had the feeling of being 'just another guest' through the door rather than witnessing any real interest in the customer.
We were in Umbria on a weekend trip as a group of 18 people and Hotel Clitunno accomodated all of us. Everyone in our group enjoyed their stay here. Great service, nice people! Fabulous breakfast buffet. Loads of fresh breads and cakes, meats and cheeses, yogurt and cereal. The restaurant is very good, and loads of people come to the hotel just to go to the restaurant. The only negative I might mention is that some of the rooms should probably be updated (the mirror lights in my bathroom did not work), but the location is great, and overall we were very happy.
Charged us €10 for parking without mentioning it. The father came out and started yelling at us when we were calmly telling him that we weren't told about the €10. He threatened to charge us double. The room was very dusty and noisy. The morning waitress seemed put off at having to serve us coffee. In two weeks of travel this was the worst treatment we got.
Booked a room for 2 for 60 euros. Never told that there would also be a 10 euro charge for the locked parking area across the road or a 2 euro (cash only) city tax. No parking is allowed immediately in front and the street parking in the vicinity requires payment at the machine. The older Italian working there does not speak english and is very rude. When we disputed the parking charges he threatened to charge us more for the room. They also had a trainee that could not help us upon our initial arrival. We had to wait for a gentleman in his 40s. He spoke a little English, so a little effort is required to understand him. The double bed (2 mattresses pushed together) took up nearly all of the room. Had made a request for ice to be brought to the room and help with the wi-fi. Ended up having to go down to the front desk to achieve my request as no one came after waiting for awhile. The room that we had was above an alley with trash bins, so be prepared for the sound of wine bottles at night and the trash collector in the early morning hours.
Arrived as part of a larger group. The check in went smoothly and they did make their best effort to accomodate us. However, the room had little hot water the first day, and the second day the water was frigid, as if they didn't have the hot water turned on. I know we were a large group, but if you cannot provide hot water for everybody, then don't try. Further, the mini fridge in the room didn't work. It is put in a little cabinet, but since there is no ventillation, the heat gets trapped and the fridge can't work. Plus the bathroom shower is ridiculously small. I would recommend to avoid this hotel.
The hotel's room was dirty, full of dust and hair. Bathroom vwry small, door very noisy. The staff does not smile they look miserable. The owner is an old man rude and abusive. Be carful with the parking there are only 5 car spaces. I got a fine and they did not bother to tell me that the space in front of the hotel is not for parking although every day there are a lot of cars. Check other reviews before booking. No worth a penny.
Stayed in Hotel with my sister from 21st October 2016 as well positioned in Spoleto and within walking distance to Spoleto Hospital where my father was staying. Stayed with my sister for 5 days. Excellent stay, lovely family run Hotel. Room lovely and very clean. Had few hiccups with initial room yet they changed us immediately and without any fuss to another room. Room lovely and really clean. Hotel really pretty and offers good facilities including a smoking indoor area as they have a special bilt in ventilation system that legally allows residents to smoke there. I was extremely impressed with this. Dined there, really delicious fine dining, excellent ingredients and good service. The hotel is family run and they were extremely helpful, friendly and professional. We required some documents faxed and both sons assisted us with it. Excellent stay and highly recomend it.
Decent hotel, well located but staff varied from offhand to rude. WiFi intermittent. Spoleto a lovely place and the wonderful music festival in late June not to be missed. The hotel's outdoor restaurant is excellent although a little over ambitious; popular with the cool and well-heeled locals.
