We spent two nights at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle after arriving from England. It's a great centre for relaxing around Fremantle, taking in the old town, walking around the harbour and visiting the WA Maritime Museum. The hotel is full of old-style character. The rooms are comfortable and the buffet breakfast caters for all tastes.
Unfortunately we arrived direct from the UK to this hotel late afternoon and there was some kind of open air concert going on, the lobby was packed with large groups checking in which made the wait to check in long. It seemed that only 1 person could check in non groups. We were hot and tired so when we got our key we struggled with our luggage up to the room. We were supposed to have a Garden/Pool view room, if I crained my neck I could just see the edge of the pool but I had a better view of a multi story car park. The room was ok but in no way luxury. The hotel building is really special and looks amazing. Breakfast was good, the servers there very friendly and helpful. Not convinced I would recommend this hotel.
I stayed her for business in March 2018. I was here for one full week. Pros: Good location for walking into town, easy access to the bike path, and places of historic interest. Neither pro nor con: Breakfast buffet has a decent omelette bar. Otherwise it has a decent selection of hot or cold breakfast. Unimaginative and unmemorable but I didn't get sick from eating it. Cons: The hallways smell of mold. The weight lifting gym is dangerous, broken equipment with one rickety flat bench. Neither quaint, nor updated but adequate value for the price.
Our room was really lovely. New carpets, curtains, bedding, the bathroom was huge and had a spa, which was clean and huge. Unfortunately the view was not good but we booked at the last minute. The room was very glam but the air con was noisy. Great location. Beautiful facade. Parking was dear. 9/10
Our first stay was in 1985; then again in 2002. We were delighted when we returned in 2018 to find it was a bit larger but just as good as our previous experience. Rooms were well appointed and buffet breakfast was “bonza” (Australian for great). Bar menu and wine selection top rate. We walked to the fast rail and in 25 minutes we were in Perth for a walkabout including visual siting of five camels walking around the harbor. Only in Australia. Anyway when in Perth try a night in Fremantle at The Esplanade.
We stayed 2 nights on our arrival from Sydney. It was very comfortable being able to relax after a 5 hour flight, with the 3 hours time difference on our first day. Our room had a lovely outlook over the park with a balcony, good bed and ensuite. The bar and lounge area had excellent light meals, snacks and drinks. The hotel is in a great location near the waterfront precinct and close to the vibrant cafe district, Cappuccino Strip. Staff were very pleasant. Only concern was sometimes the music downstairs could be heard in our room. Suggest the hotel improves the room directory & set out facilities clearer, and adds a brief history of this amazing building. Overall a very happy stay. Would definitely stay here again.
The Esplanade is a bit of an institution in Freemantle and is located in an ideal location to explore Freemantle from. The rooms are well appointed but nothing special with standard hotel bathrooms and “in the bath” showers. International visitors may be disappointed with choice of TV channels. Pool view rooms are inside looking and view other rooms and car parks as well as the pool. We stayed 4 nights in good weather but never saw the “poolside bar” open. The Ball and Chain pub is attached to the property and worth a visit and the main bar appears to do good business. We did not try the restaurant. Corridor carpets are being renewed throughout the property at the moment but this is being done at reasonable times of the day with minimum disruption. Overall a reasonable and well located option when visiting “Frio”.
Excellent hotel with several bars & restaurants in the best position overlooking the park but a hop from the water. Rooms were extremely comfortable & well equipped. Totally recommend. Extremely handy for the Freo markets & town.
Stayed for one night. room was really hot and smelt like an old motel room on the side of a highway, so we had to have so one come in to fix it. The bathroom was so dark that I had to pay a salon to do my make up and when you showered the water was slow draining away that by the time you finished your shower you could of had a bath. On the up though the staff were very nice.
Our room was on the first floor, the balcony overlooking a side street, so there was always something to watch but we did not have a noise problem. We really liked it - the room was spacious & comfortable. Staff very pleasant & helpful The breakfast was particularly good with a wide choice & you could have freshly scrambled eggs - great. Would I stay here again - the answer is yes Highly recommended
