To preface, I'll say that in general, I book through Vrbo because we want a unique, high quality experience with more flexibility, space, etc. than what a hotel would offer.
We've stayed in several in the past year, and have had many wonderful experiences (and a lot to compare to).
So, first the good:
- It's got a beautiful backyard view with a hot tub, pool, several decks, etc.
- It's a short walk across the street to Perdido Beach.
- The house has plenty of space for several people to stay.
- Pet friendly.
Then, the frustrating stuff:
- Many of the dishes were dirty, and had been put away either dirty, or ran once through the dishwasher without being checked.
- The couch in the living room had several stains on it.
- The foldout bed in that same couch had an old, yellowed mattress that looked long past its service life
- The lock on the downstairs suite was very loose/worn
- We found clumps of hair floating in the hot tub.
They contacted us on the second day to see if we needed anything. I didn't bring up the bad stuff, but just requested a few additional toilet paper rolls, and a few extra towels. (They didn't include a single extra roll of toilet paper in the house.)
At that point, they basically said "Sorry, those are your responsibility."
If they had simply said "Sure, no problem" in that moment, we were prepared to overlook the rest of the issues. But for the several thousand dollars we paid, the pushback on a simple request for supplies was too much. Not good.
