Situated midway between Penrith and Alston the village oozes charm and character and is a true example of the traditional Eden Valley village. The atmosphere is one of rural calm, the sandstone architecture, rippling streams and pleasant grassy open spaces all add to its charm. Melmerby boasts its own village bakery and pub serving food and drink. Lavender Cottage provides an excellent base from which to visit the Lake District National Park, The Eden Valley, North Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall.
