The external pool is great but the room was small for a triple room and the door looked like it had been broken into before. It was ok for one night but wouldn't recommend for longer. It could really do with a overhaul inside it looks tired and has scuff marks on most walls. They also need more visible staff.
Impressive decor, great swimming pool, nice restaurant & comfortable rooms. A bit hard to locate but the locals we asked knew of it & provided directions as we rode in on bikes. I would highly recommend it.
The hotel is very basic, the infrastructure is quite old and would require renovation. When I stayed there it was practically empty, the service was poor, breakfast poor with very little choice. The indoor swimming pool and the gym were closed due to renovation work, however at the moment of booking I did not know that, I found out only when I got there.
My partner and I stopped here to and from Sicily on a business trip. Somewhat off the main motorway, but a nice, quiet spot once there. The rooms were spacious enough, and were not cookie-cutter (the 4 rooms we occupied on the two visits were all different), and the bathrooms were nicely done in granite. The first night our rooms had balconies overlooking the sea, and I went to sleep listening to the waves crashing far below, after watching the beautiful sunset. The night of the second stay, no balconies, no view. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but not always in place at the reception desk (in their defense, it was off season and there were not too many guests). The manager of the dining room, where we had breakfast, was exceptional and very attentive. We had breakfast there both mornings (and found it quite good), but for dinner went down to the beach far below. The indoor/outdoor swimming pool looked nice, but we did not use it.
Just come back from this hotel. It was very quiet and we were the only English people there. The rooms were clean, although the shower was a bit messy and in a bath with high sides so not easy to get in and out of. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant only once as it was a bit basic and overpriced. We found several excellent restaurants nearby and ate good Italian food at a price the locals pay. Michaelangelos, below the Hotel on the Lido, was good with seafood and pizzas. The L'uliveto in Palmi was especially good with briliant steaks at a good price. All in all exactly what we wanted. To experience a part of Italy untouched by major tourism and lots of real Italian people to watch. With their own elections coming up it was interesting to see how locals, especially the fishermen, were pretty much disinterested!! Sicily on a ferry trip was good fun especially as Mt Etna timed her latest eruption for our arrival. Brilliant.
Palmi- Beautiful but totally backward. Ruined by xenophobic tendencies, no taxis, and no cashpoints. They want the income of tourism but are neither geared up to support it, and are a miserable and generally unfriendly bunch. This is not specific to the hotel. This hotel seems to be single-handedly run by an Australian who is put upon constantly as a direct result of the uselessness of most of his colleagues. It was like a modern day Fawlty Towers. No exaggeration. There is simply no way this is 4 star (let alone 3). The place does have aircon, but that is perhaps it's sole redeeming feature. The hotel is bizzarely decorated, My room had a jacuzzi. It was broken. The list by the mini bar promised a multitude of goodies. In fact it only had water in it. Bloody annoying. There is no room service. The decor was depressing, dated and a bit crap. The bed was dreadfully uncomfortable. Somehow or other this place is used for local weddings. It is taken over at such times and is pure chaos. A cleaner openly wept and argued at the reception desk at having to clean 30 room on her own. TheYou'd never imagine food in Italy worse than hospital food, but they managed it. Meat or fish too, no vegetarian options. Astonishingly rude, aggressive waiter. He shouted at me 'No English'. Slammed the plate on front of me, and had his fat thumb in the food. Yuck. In fact the food was cold. Iasked him to take it back and he said I should feel the plate and that it was hot. He stormed off to get the manager who then agreed it was too cold. This glowering sulky waiter was not seen again. The view from my window was reasonably nice.
Sicuramente ci ritorneremo!!
