Absolutey love the Monasterio.....food very nice ,very clean hotel ,beautiful gardens and outside pool nice orange tree lined bar and terrace, large bedroom with lots of character, friendly and unique .A hidden gem and ideal wanting to visit Cordoba.Palma del Rio is a lovely village and we came to stay over Easter to visit friends....will be going back
Great to experience monastery life!:-) But rather expensive. Breakfast was simple and restaurant was so-so. Enjoy the walk around the garden. Free internet, no elevator. Outdoor pool was rather cold.... Spacious room.
A sense of history came over me as i walked the corridors here and thought about Christopher Columbus staying here over 500 years ago. The rooms are huge and some have great views from the windows. The furnishings were comfortable and attractive in a traditional way. For cat lovers - there are some friendly cats who live on the grounds and will follow you into your room if you make friends with them. Overall, a very peaceful place and i would stay here again.
We stayed for one night at this lovely hotel with lots of character and located right in the center of the town. Amazing patios and some of the rooms including the bar and restaurant room. It is a 3 stars accommodation but in some aspects it looks like more. Really pretty. Check in was quick and great, check out was bad as the lady in reception was talking on the phone for over 10 minutes while we were waiting at the desk what it seemed a private conversation with a friend, not nice. After I got a bit fed up, I just interrupted her chat and gave her the key of the room. The room was beautiful and clean, a bit dark though, I guess because the building being a previous monastery. The hotel is massive with lots of patios, corridors and rooms everywhere so I guess maintenance is a big issue, we found some of the areas not very clean and dusty. At the time of our visit they were building a swimming pool. Generally speaking we enjoyed our stay because of the great character of the building and we did a lot of pictures of it, specially to the updated areas that look wonderful. We also had dinner at the restaurant. Though the food was correct, I found the dishes quite old fashioned as if the kitchen is stuck on the 80s especially the sirloin with foie. I also noticed a lack for details such as chipped plates and dirty wine glass. We had salmorejo and sirloin with foie among other things. Everything was correct in flavors and presentation without taking your breath away. The service was very good and professional. The price was fair for the food and wine we had. Even though some of my comments could seem negative, our stay was very nice and we enjoyed the place very much. Hopefully management will take these comments on board to take action. Also the safety box should be attached to wall or wardrobe, otherwise what´s the point? I could take the safety box with my hands and take it away. Don´t miss this place if you are in the area, it´s unique. But maybe try another restaurant if you feel so.
We can't say enough nice things about this hotel. The gorgeous fruit trees out our window. The details of the historic decor. The massive indoor/outdoor halls have fabulous artwork and antiques. The staff was friendly. The fabulous bed, room and bath- such a fantastic deal!!!!
This place is a gem. Extremely comfortable rooms, large and lovely building and gardens, very good public areas. The food is good, too, and reasonably priced. Palma del Rio itself is just a bustling little town, but it's pleasant enough - but there's no real reason to leave the monastery. Book on the hotel's site rather than via an online agency.
This is worth the visit, they do not charge an entrance fee (all other cathedrals and basilicas do). It has a museum next door to it and a cute cafe/gift shop right down the steps. There is construction around it, but go in and check it out!
The hotel is well situated in the small town of Palma del Rio, which is a very handy base for touring the area and within a couple of hour of Seville and Cordoba. Although really an ancient monument, the hotel retains its original design and charm, whilst providing modern bedrooms, with comfortable beds, spacious quiet rooms, and fully modernised en suite bathrooms; rooms have heating or cooling as suits the time of year. Be aware that there are no lifts and most rooms are on the first (upper) floor. The hotel restaurant provides breakfast and evening dinners - but there are plenty of alternative cafes and restaurants nearby. Safe and secure car parking is available at a moderate supplementary cost. The staff are very helpful and the daily maid service is excellent. All in all, we can easily recommend the hotel as a comfortable, peaceful place to stay, especially as a base to explore the region.
Stayed her with my wife on the way back from Extremadure to Malaga airport. The is a wonderfully authentic resatored 15th century monastery turned into an outstanding hotel but kept authentic at the same time. The restaurant has desrevedly won several awards. We had 2 of the best steaks ever . The most expensive wine on the list is still extremely reasonable at 23 Euros and was of the very highest quality ( Matarromera Crianza ). To finish off a great experience the service was outstanding and the lady waiter was very professional and so charming.
We traveled to this charming hotel for a friend's wedding. Palma del Río is a small town approximately 1 hour from Sevilla. It is a small town, but rich with history and close proximity to Sevilla and Córdoba. The highest rating hotel in Palma is 3 stars and the bride recommended Monasterio or Hotel Castillo. We chose Monasterio due to the history and charm, and we were not disappointed. To begin, the amenities may be 3 star but the service of the staff- Carmen, María and Ana were 6 stars! They were extremely helpful and accommodating even before we arrived, helping to coordinate a taxi to pick us up at the train station and take us to the hotel (5 euros). Carmen helped us to select authentic restaurants for dinner and was sure to give us accurate directions as we walked everywhere. The hotel is historic and old and with that it should be expected that sometimes older building experience issues- one being hot water. Due to this, we changed from room 10 to room 7 after our first night because there wasn't hot water in room 10. It turned out to be great because we much preferred the set up and size of bathroom of room 7. On our last night (we stayed a total of 4), we had an early morning transfer to the airport and were showering at night when we realized once again we didn't have hot water. We didn't want to have to move rooms again, so María was so kind to find us a room with hot water where we showered- room 24. This room was smaller with not pool or garden view. The staff was wonderful and accommodating despite some hiccups with hot water they ensured we were happy and well taken care of. For room selection, try to request room 7, it was a large room, large bathroom with 2 sinks, tub, and large shower. There was a lovely garden and pool view. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for your hospitality!
