Great location to jump around Palermo and check out the historical sites of the town like the Teatro Massimo and many churches. I've stayed here 3 times and have never been disappointed. The service is first class, rooms are modern and clean, breakfast is included as well. There is a good Wi-Fi for free and many restaruants, supermarkets, and pharmacies in walking distance of Hotel Mercure Palermo Centro. Great bang for the buck!
The corridors may use a little refresh, as they seem as they were from the early 90's. This hotel is situated perfectly! It's just like 2 minutes from the stop of the bus going from the main railway station, it's close to all of the most important points of the city yet it's hidden in a quiet street on which nothing will interfere with your sleep (and trust me, this is something that should be emphasized on in Sicily!). The room (twin beds standard) was HUGE! I've never met this big room in a 4* hotel! The breakfast is OK, however the coffee is not the best one. You can of course get here a normal, continental breakfast. Bathroom was also big and had two, separate sinks! Unfortunately, one of them stinks... (room 204). The main drawback of the hotel was the look of the corridors, which could use a little refresh - so not a big deal.
We stayed three nights and this hotel was a good base for Palermo. The room was good and was clean and our rate included breakfast which was plentiful and good. Good strong air conditioning also which was welcome. Would be a five star review except for issues below which mainly revolved around our interactions with the reception desk. Some small gripes: We left our room at 3pm which admittedly is late and it was not cleaned. Not the end of the world and we did get a new set of towels quite quickly when we came back which is all we needed. However they came with 'attitude' from the reception desk whereby we were as good as blamed for putting the sign on the wrong way. Fair enough if we did but we did not and it is not good to say this to a guest in public! The elevator had a really loud ping when it arrives at a floor. You can hear it in the rooms and we were not close to the elevator. Breakfast was good. Very oriented towards sweet things which is fine. They had scrambled eggs and each of the times we tried, they were cold and over cooked. However in general a good breakfast. Finally the reception staff were 'icy' in comparison to other Mercure hotels and even other Italian hotels. They made you feel that it was beneath them to talk to you.
Just arrived today. The hardware of the hotel is not bad. The reception has the worst attitude I have ever seen and they were impatient of answering any question. ( we can speak Italian) They told me the hotel was full so it was not possible to upgrade my room, even if I may like to pay. (got platinum member of Accor, usually free upgrade) hell the hotel was full, it was still possible to book the hotel for today with all types of room! I made a further call to Accor service center and they confirmed the availability of all types of rooms of today.(they made apology but they could do noting) It is ok u just tell me u don't want to give free promotion, but don't make lies that are easy to reveal. When I showed this to the younger staff, she was afraid to answer and put me back to the previous " manager", who now was saying the information online was not correct. @_@！！I thought about booking immediately the best room and to see how they would react. But I knew for sure they would get other excuses. Maybe this time computer malfunction. :) just wanna remind them, not everyone accepts unfair treatment and stays mute. At least we have a fair platform trip advisor
Hotel situated close to shops, buses. You can use buses to see the city sights or get on the Hop on Hop Off bus as we did to select the sites you wish to visit with a 24 hour pass. Add Euro 5 pp and see Monreale. The Cappuchin Catacombs are worth a visit but monotonous. Mondello beach is worth a visit. The hotel did not have the room as described in the booking. No tea/coffee facilities provided and when asked was told a kettle will be sent to room. What about coffee, milk, tea bags etc ? was met with a frown by the receptionist. TV not working? Was the room checked before clients enter room? Technician sent to fix and found faulty power point. Turning the kettle on caused trip switch to short circuit . Should we complain? perhaps we would have been witnessing another frown from the receptionist. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection and the wait persons were helpful and obliging. A balcony is provided but no chairs or tables to enjoy a drink or two with fresh air and view.Is it worth up grading to a Superior room? Happy hour was enjoyable and reasonably priced with snacks which were delicious. Good place to meet other guest and have a conversation and exchange notes. Made no difference to receptionist when mentioned we stayed at Mercure near Eiffel Tower in Paris or that we are Accor members. Is it worth joining these sort of memberships?
Very nice hotel with very good service. We were in a triple that was a very large room that had a sitting area with a couch. Large bathroom. Although our rate included breakfast we were not able to take advantage of the breakfast because of a very early morning flight so we asked if they could give us a boxed breakfast to go which they did. The hotel is fairly well located and was an easy 15 minute walk with our luggage to the airport express bus stop to catch the bus to the airport.
Large room with very comfortable beds. Flat screen TV with several English speaking news channels. OK mini fridge, but full of mini bar stuff. Air conditioning was adequate . Very nice bathroom with excellent shower. The hotel common area was nice, but the halls looked old. Our room looked like it was recently updated. We were in a back room on the second floor with barking dogs, windows are old and not sound proof. Breakfast was good, cold cuts, sweets, eggs and bacon, cereals. Well located, numerous restaurants in area, old town is a 20 minute walk. Recommended!
The hotel is in a perfect location. The staff is friendly. Our room was clean, beds comfortable, the bathroom clean and spacious. Breakfast was really good, everything was fresh and delicious. Good wifi. I would certainly come back.
This hotel is in a great location, walkable to all of the sites in Palermo. They have an underground parking garage across the street. Believe me, drivers in Palermo are insane, and there is no parking in the centre, so this was great. It was 20euros/day which is a lot. It's a tight squeeze so the nice guys in the lot can come and get your car and park it for you, and bring it out which is great. Breakfast and rooms are good, staff are pretty friendly, wi-fi is excellent.
The Mercure hotel chain has many hotels and this is one I'd go back to any time I was visiting Sicily again. Very conveniently situated just two minutes from Via Roma, a main thoroughfare, with at least two bus routes to the main station and the Airport transfer bus. We asked for a larger room having stayed the previous week in a fairly small room for two large people. This proved to be no trouble and we were put in a splendidly large room with lots of space. The bed was enormous, comfortable and could have slept four in comfort. As in most Mercure hotels the room lighting was adequate and could have done with a light over the desk/dressing table. With what seems to be an Italian idiosyncrasy there were three different styles of electrical sockets in the room resulting in a quick dash to the local electrical shop to get yet another adaptor to add to my daisy chain of sockets before I could plug anything British in. The restaurant meals were really very good and the chef even made a meal lasagna specially for us. Breakfast was more than adequate with only two hot dishes on offer but with plenty of cold dishes to choose from.Being British we wanted tea at breakfast and there were even teapots but sorry no lids for them. When I asked the staff just smiled and shrugged. Nevertheless it was an excellent cup of tea. Their bottle of €10 red wine was very smooth and of excellent quality, definitely recommended. We would stay there again without hesitation.
