Mercure Hotel Palermo Centro4.0 out of 5.0

Everything (location, service, room facility and the breakfast buffet) is excellent at the Mercure Palermo Centro. The only thing I like to comment for all European hotels is the lack of a coffee/hot water maker in the room. Going down to the restaurant or the bar for a small pot of hot water each time (3-4 times a night for two tea drinkers) is quite a bother for both the service staff and the guest.
Modern, very clean, friendly staff. Room was slightly small but was fine. Bathroom was big, No noise but my room had view of fire escape. Price was great, in other cities paid 3 times as much for same. TV was good with lots of channels. Bk was included and was plenty. Was in center, also close enough to port. Would definitely go back there. Note: Palermo doesn't have many street signs, so have a GPS or a good map before u get there.
We stayed for two nights at the Mercure Palermo and had a comfortable stay. Our room was comfortable and quiet, although on one morning the staff was doing maintenance on the room adjacent to ours. The room and bathroom was very clean. We also enjoyed the fact that our room had a balcony, which was very cool. It was nice enough to sit outside and enjoy the view one morning. The breakfast is surprisingly good. It featured eggs, bacon, cereal, breads, pasteries, yogurt, and a nice coffee/espresso maker. We were very pleased with it and in fact I can't believe it was included in our cheap rate. The staff was just okay. They were friendly, but did not go out of their way to help us find locations and make dinner reservations. In fact, the one restaurant they recommended received some bad reviews. Overall I cannot complain about the service since we got such a good rate and I think I would definitely return as it has a great location with many restaurants within a 5-7 minute walk.
Excellent location, helpful staff, modern and very clean rooms. I was completely surprised for the price. Breakfast (included) was great - much better than your typical continental spread. This place is an absolute steal. I don't usually write reviews so that should tell you something.
The hotel is located very close to bus routes, restaurants & shopping which was a plus. You can take the public bus to the nearest beach, Mondello, it only takes 10-15 minutes & the beach is GORGEOUS! If you have the time you should go to Taormina, it's a 3 hour drive east of Palermo. Taormina was the best part of my trip. The Mercure Hotel is pretty, very modern & nicely done. Maybe it is because I come from a hospitality industry background which makes me expect a certain level of customer service, but I did NOT receive it at this hotel. The front desk agents acted as if they were getting annoyed with me for asking the simplest of questions throughout my stay.... like, can I please have 2 room keys? The bartender at Mercure in the lobby was a very nice guy though (I think his name was [...] or something like that), despite the front desk snobs. The rooms are nice & our bathroom was pretty big. Overall it was okay, nothing outstanding.
