Hotel Palazzo Sitano4.0 out of 5.0

I travelled to Palermo, Sicily from 7-10 July from Malta. My boyfriend booked through hotel booking and have read the reviews, and he is quite impressed and confident to booked us there. We requested for a bath too. And upon our arrival, the hotel, look clean, nice exterior and interior too. We were greet with a friendly receptionist and she spoke good english and this is fantastic. However, 5 things have let us down. As we enter, the room is decendly nice, clean and the bed is ok. As the weather was indeed sorching hot...we turn on air-con and for more than 1hr, it doesn cool at all. Second, the fridge is not working. despite several attempt highlighted this issues to reception, nothing s done. Third, there is no iron&board. They claimed that the laundry was an external service as such, no such service is require. Fourth, the breakfast do let us down. No variety, not much of a selection to choose, except simple bread, croissant, yogurt, eggs, bacon, and thats it. We been there for 3 nights, the breakfast menu is the same. Picture is very deceiving...as such, my recommendation to all traveller out there, be careful before deciding on the hotel. This is what happened to us and we both was extremely disappointed. We didnt expected this however, beware and i believe there are other better hotel which serve better quality, top service and good food that represent Sicily.
As part of a Titan tour "Sicily, The Jewel of the Mediterranean", we were at this hotel for two nights. An obvious refurbishment (read other reviews) two or three years' ago shows a great deal of money was spent. Sadly, hotel management have neglected to maintain it. Others in our party complained about the room size or layout, or that the window shutters didn't open. Everyone seems at odds with the room decor.. very dark (for coolness?) but a complete lack of lighting so that you can't see to operate the room safe. But - and this is vital - the new bathroom fittings were not cleaned at all. what looked like years of build up of mould and hardwater limescale caked both showerheads (overhead fixed and a hand-held) and were - frankly - disgusting and dangerous to use. We live in a hardwater area too.. there are ways to combat it! Limescale caked the tile grouting too and mould/limescale was in every sealant crevice. Other things overlooked too were a spillage of perhaps strong glue on the expensive basin tap (from putting up the mirror?) Our room was clean enough.. the bathroom itself was massive and expensively fitted (although the showertray didn't have any anti-slip moulded in and was quite slippy). I didn't dare look closely at the mattress.. noted there was no mattress protector and the mattress edge looked quite new. It was 40 degrees during our visit and our tour manager called ahead to ask them to put the individually-controlled AC on in our rooms. She was told they had no spare keys... that each room would be allocated one key only (even for 2 singles sharing!!) thus when you go out, off goes the electricity and thus the AC. Eventually they 'had a delivery of extra keycards'. Oh yeah? So they inserted those and our rooms were cooling on arrival. But the next day they took them away again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our arrival was hampered by a televised concert taking place a couple of streets away and the police had closed the roads meaning our bus could not drop us off near to the hotel. No fault of the hotel, or of Titan. However, the hotel sent a van to where we parked near the station to collect the luggage. Natch.. van had to make three trips and some waited ages for their cases.... Others have reviewed on here that street noise/bar music is loud at weekends. Can only say that we had inside-facing rooms (requested by our tour manager) and were not bothered by it but for sure it would have been an issue otherwise. Breakfast was the poorest of the 4 hotels on our trip. Complete chaos. But the point of my review is the dangerous, potentially lethal, state of the shower fittings. So unnecessary, poor hotel management, probably breaks a couple of EU laws. Chaotic at best, dangerous at worst. I have written to Titan Travel urging them to immediately cancel all bookings until they can inspect remedial works.
Part of a small group there for an engineering conference. Wonderful little city, and museum, University, etc. but a terrible hotel. We changed our room 4 times, and the last time was the worst with a big hole in the closet I was worried that a rat was going to get in; so I stuffed the hole with a plastic bag. The smell of urine was awful, but my husband did not seem to be bothered by the odor. They sprayed but it didn't help. They needed experienced cleaning staff; never got floors or furniture dusted the entire stay. Breakfast was almost impossible to eat except for fruit and some cereal; hot stuff was cold. The front desk was polite, knowledgeable of the area, etc. AC in some rooms didn't work. Very poorly lit. I was happy to leave.
This is a typical Palazzo with undistinguished entry off the main drag in what appears a run down part of town near the port But once inside its like the tardis with two connected buildings artfully furbished. The rooms are quirky and large enough but the lighting poor,we could not see clearly to use the free floor level safe and the A/C although on was not effective. The two single beds were narrow but comfortable the bathroom had plenty hot water although the shower was difficult to operate being modern design. There of course is no Kettle but there is a stocked minifridge We only had breakfast so could not comment on other meals. The breakfast room is long and narrow with table for two making feel very busy not helped by the provision of only one coffee machine however there was the usual choices of hot and cold buffet plus fresh baking
The bed was springy. The smell of urine was terrible- I asked for some air freshener and a man came and sprayed the room- didn't last very long! The wine was expensive and of poor quality. The food disappointing. Do not eat here. We were in group tour- secrets of Sicily. Review coming.
Not 4 stars, breakfast was poor. After a night of terrible noise from the street there was no reaction from the staff. Møre than 100 euro's per night i rather slept in my car than in this terrible Place. Never again!
This hotel gave us just about what we wanted. It could be a lot cleaner and the house keeping was not good. The floors are dirty the beds were not made properly. The toiletries were not supplied each day. The rooms are very dark and the lighting is minimal, our room had shutters which did not open so we had no daylight. Air con was good and we were not disturbed by noise. The wi-fi was good. The breakfast had most things that you might want but the room is poorly lit. I would not recommend it as a destination.
Glad we did not pay full price. Common areas look poorly maintained, spa was not in use and skipped breakfast twice as it was so bland and went to local cafes. Cakes were really cold. Reception fine apart from one young woman who could not even speak to us. I was in a junior suite and had to change rooms as the live music was unbearable Friday and Saturday till 4.30 am. I was promised the other side was better, but barely. Double rooms facing the courtyard are better. All junior suites are on the front, so be warned! Even Sunday, but not so late. The floor in the first room left my feet filthy and the room scent was bone dry.
We stayed here 4 nights, hotel is very corporate guess due to city location. Room was very dark and one of overhead lights was not working- we reported this to reception but nothing was done about it. A lot of black and brown panelling everywhere. Good location for exploring central Palermo with some nice restaurants adjacent to hotel.
Room was very clean & tidy. Enough space for all my belongings. Breakfast is average, not the best quality of dishes...either too salty or two sweet, but for the price offered it is fine in case you prefer continental breakfast instead of Italian croissant and cappuccino. Rooms are only ready for check-in from 14h so make sure you schedule your arrival accordingly. No matter in which room you stay, the street is extremely loud and hectic (as probably in most of the streets in the old town). So if you expect to sleep without hearing a mosquito flying - try sleeping in a place further away from the lively city center.
