Hotel is ok and location is nice close at the beach. We had a king superior room which was big and spacious. Room could need a bit renovation. Spa is big but dated. Jacuzzis didn’t really work. Outside pool was closed. Would been nice to have e a swim outside in the warm water with minus degrees... Upstairs restaurant was nice and food was really good. Only bad side was that the service was really slow. We had only main courses and it took us 2h to have dinner.
The hotel is fairly ok, quite small rooms, nice swimming but the restaurant is something you should avoid! We ordered one pizza in the restaurant downstairs and we waited at least 50 min to get it. Other customers were also very upset. We didn't even get any discount or anything after that. As we took pizza as take away we complaint at the reception and the person offered us free juices for kids. At least that was polite. But when we came to room we opened the pizza and it was half burned. What a disaster!
This really caters to families! The indoor water park was nice...they fired up the wave pool once an hour. They offer a Turkish steam room, a Roman steam room, and a Finnish sauna. I'm more impartial to the Finnish sauna as the other rooms didn't feel as warm, but that is just a personal preference. The room was nice and comfortable; the breakfast offered many choices and was quite satisfying! I only spent one night as I was passing through for business, but would definitely recommend for families. The staff was very friendly. Although I was on business, having the pool to relax and swim around was nice. Overall, nice place to stay.
We chose this so we could be in the snow and by the beach & enjoy walks. The bus stop was invaluable as we were able to go into Oulu each day as well & return from our days adventure exploring to a lovely swim, steam room & sauna. The choice of food in the hotel other than the amazing breakfast was limited I felt, OK if you love burger's & pizza, they were very good though. We adapted by finding a different place to eat out during the day so we survived on snacks each evening. The buses ran 2 an hour, the adult fare into Oulu centre was 3 euro's 30 & for a child 1 euro 70 one way, no return tickets available or daily or weekly passes. It didn't matter where you got on & off the bus en-route as the price was fixed for that journey. If you got off & back on within the hour you were able to use the same ticket though. Connections were available to the train station & coach station by it & the bus stop timetables in the city centre clear to understand. The walk to the trains & coaches was only about 20 minutes average pace from the city centre though. Our room had the bathroom cleaned each day, the beds were not made though or just pulled over as if my 11 year old boy had done them? No worries, the view from the 4th floor more than made up for it. We booked through Expedia, not sure if this meant it was real economy or the normal hotel standards, I was expecting complimentary slippers to wear to the pool & was told they were to be purchased from reception. Luckily we took our own travel kettle, mugs & drinks as none were supplied in the room. We did have a fridge though, I'm not sure if it was only provided as we'd ordered an extra bed to be supplied for a child to sleep in? The note said it was for keeping the child's drinks & snacks cool. A great family hotel & dogs also allowed. Very helpful friendly staff, you only need to ask. Not sure what other rooms were like, ours was possibly due an update & freshen up, I would compare it to 3 star places in England away from London. It was comfortable, warm & adequate though. The gym was large & well equipped, the spa looked pleasant, prices as per Finland greater than the UK, probably good for Finland. The public seating areas were clean, spacious & pleasant to sit in to relax. Free wi fi a bonus & worked fine thank you. If you had a car then the free parking opposite was plentiful. I imagine in the summer this place by the beach is a haven for families, friends & couples. There are activities close by, tennis, mini golf, snow shoeing, cross country ski ing, cycling, & a great coffee shop a few minute's walk opposite . Just lovely, thank you.
Good service for family with small children. Rooms are really up for an upgrade. Restaurants and breakfast are ok. Spa is nice for kids but also same as it was in the 90’s. Nice location for summertime with the beach right next door. A bit expensive to my taste.
Oulu has no great historical attractions. It's a town set amidst natural beauty. The hotel is on the shore of the Guif of Bothnia. Downtown is a beautiful 3,5km walk. There are two buses every hour to town. Fare: 3,30 euros. No bus service on Saturday and Sunday. There are several walking trails through the woods and along water bodies. It's bang on the beach. Rooms have side views of the Gulf. It's indoor swimming pool is like a sprawling resort with whole lot of jacuzzis, whirlpools, chutes and slides. Breakfast is average.
Kids really loves the spa, the rooms are very nice and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is really good, extra +++++ for the really crispy bacon! The beach is near, and there are good hiking paths close to the hotel. There is also a gym at the hotel.
The hotel is situated on a beautiful spot, but yet close to Oulu centre. The hotel has beautiful views from restaurant and gym - and not that bad from our room either. The room was ok, but nothing more. Somehow, however, one got the feeling that the hotel had seen its best days. When calling the hotel prior to making the reservation (to ask about the parking facilities), the lady answering the phone was very friendly, helpful and "sunny"! Unfortunately the reception people did not have the energy when we arrived: they seemed tired or bored. Anyway that service was better than the service we got in the restaurant when we had our dinner: the waitress was busy and smileless, close to having been sulky. When also the food was totally tasteless, the dinner experience was a bad surprise. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed the positive spirit that was greated by the numerous small children eating with their familities.
Stayed here for 2 nights with family. Room was reasonably spacious and well-furnished, but a bit dated. Nice balcony with view of sea and afternoon sun. Breakfast OK, but slightly below average compared to other Finnish hotels. Swimming pool / spa good fun for the kids for a short time. Overall hotel has a feeling it was great 20-30 years, but needs some attention to bring it up to date. And like other spa hotels I've been to in Finland, why do they put the smoking area right by the main entrance - it doesn't give an impression of health and wellness! Location is great next to beach and an easy walk into city centre. Was very expensive due to festival in the city during our stay.
I love this hotel, it's friendly staff, restaurant, games, rooms and food. I have been visiting there countless times since I was kid (more than 30 times). Suite exspecially is awesome with big living room and sauna (can't remember if there is sauna in old side of the hotel) Only thing that I, my family and my friends have been wanting to complain in is this: since this spa hotel turned from Holiday club to Sokos hotel in 2011, water in hot tubs turned WAY too cold, not relaxing at all, and for us its really dissapointing because we all love to relax in warm water, but you can't find it here. I used to just chill hours and hours in hot tubs, but not any more because water temperature is almost the same warmth as in main pool. We really really hope that you can change this, so we can come again and be as relaxed we used to be in this otherwise perfect place.
